The Road Venture AT51 is Kumho's On-Road All-Terrain light truck tire developed for the drivers of jeeps, pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles that want off-road performance from a tire also tuned for the road. Designed to combine command of rugged terrain with an all-season ride, the Road Venture AT51 delivers year-round traction in all terrains and all seasons, even in snow.

Road Venture AT51 tires feature a cut-resistant dual silica tread compound optimized for strength and heat dispersal to enhance all-weather grip and durability. This compound is molded into a wide tread featuring shoulders designed to expel stones and dual-pitch, zigzag center blocks to create a stable contact area to promote dry handling and wet braking. Full-depth circumferential grooves are stepped to boost off-road grip on loose surfaces while tread blocks are tapered to promote self-cleaning action for better traction in mud and snow.

Kumho's ESCOT Casing Technology optimizes sidewall cord tension distribution to promote steering response and treadlife. The tire's internal structure features twin steel belts reinforced with spirally wrapped nylon to enhance off-road durability and highway stability. Use of jointless bead bundles and a two-ply polyester cord body helps isolate bumps and vibration for a smoother, quieter ride.

Note: Kumho Road Venture AT51 tires meet the industry's severe snow service requirements and are branded with the three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) symbol.

Note: While non-winter tires featuring the three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) symbol may provide additional longitudinal snow traction beyond what all-season (M+S) tires not bearing the symbol can deliver, they do not match the capability of a true winter tire in all adverse weather conditions.

Kumho Road Venture AT51 Reviews

Owners report excellent dry traction and confident wet performance, with scores often in the 8-10 range, aligning well with its on-road all-terrain purpose. Winter traction stands out, particularly in deep snow and slush, though ice scores show occasional variability (6-10). Ride comfort receives consistent praise for smoothness, and noise levels are generally acceptable for the category. Treadwear earns positive marks overall, though a few ratings note faster wear (scores as low as 0-4), suggesting mixed experiences with longevity. Drivers highlight reliable handling on rugged terrain and commend its balanced on-road manners, making it a strong choice for those prioritizing all-weather capability without sacrificing daily drivability.

I would say the only con I have seen is wet asphalt traction is just okay.

I have put about 25k miles on these. Guessing about 20k left. They do great on highway and are as noisy as some AT tires. Off road they are a great tire. Where I live its very rocky with ancient volcanic rock and round river rocks. No chunks or serious gouges in the tires. They do great in light snow and I have not had them in heavy snow. I have no complaints. Ive seen some reviews saying they wear fast, I would guess they spin their tires alot because it appears I will get about 45,000 out them. For a AT tire, that is average. Expecting more is unrealistic. I would say the only con I have seen is wet asphalt traction is just okay.

...The only place they struggle a little is ice, but in this respect they do better than any other non-ice-specific tire I've ever owned. I'm still driving them in an arctic winter and I haven't had a problem yet!...

These tires went on my '89 Suburban 2500 that weighs in around 6500 lbs.
I live at the end of a long gravel road that gets pretty rough at certain times of the year.
That road exits onto a fast moving two-lane highway.
Six months out of the year, I can also expect significant snow.
I hate bothering with winter/summer tire sets, especially when I'm buying 35" tires, so I try to find a single tire solution.

Put that all together and my tire requirements are tough fill.

These Kumhos have been fantastic on everything including rocky trails, muddy dirt roads, gravel, and high speed highways. The only place they struggle a little is ice, but in this respect they do better than any other non-ice-specific tire I've ever owned. I'm still driving them in an arctic winter and I haven't had a problem yet!

Unless something spectacular comes along, I'll probably replace the General Grabber A/TX tires I have on my other truck. They pale in comparison as an all-purpose, off-road capable tire.

Highly recommended.

Tires are great I do a lot of hunting and this vehicle sees a lot of off road. We do live in snow country and these tires have been perfect for our snowy and icy conditions. They are very aggressive when you need them but very quite on the highways.

...If you live in a dry state, I could see these being just fine...

I usually don’t write reviews, good or bad, but these tires were so bad I felt like I had to write a review. I’ve had these through 2 Minnesota winters on my 2011 4runner with about 30,000 miles on them and they have been awful in the snow. Slushy snow, powdery snow, heavy snow, I never felt confident driving through winter with these tires. I’m just starting to look for new tires for the upcoming winter and just noticed they have a severe snow rating. I have no clue how they got that rating. I know it’s hard sifting through reviews because so many people can be unreasonable when reviewing things, but trust me, you will regret buying these tires. If you live in a dry state, I could see these being just fine. They do have good tread wear, so they deserve credit there. I could probably make it through one more winter with the tread they’ll have, but it’s definitely not worth it. Tires are spendy, so hopefully this helps save someone the headache of wasting their money.

Used those for my 3inch lifted Crown Vic P71 "Rally Car" style build called "Rosco P71 Coltrane". It has survived two Gambler 500s through the Black Hills of South Dakota, dirtbike/ATV only trails, Multiple (small) jumps, hard gravel driving, drifting, and Daily Driven everyday for 3+ years. No Flats yet, nice ride, and good MPG.

Down side, little to no traction in wet grass. Parked under a tree to avoid a hail storm and had to be pulled out :( . In slop mud, when in doubt you could throttle out. Mind you this is still a 2wd car so it could easily do better if it was 4wd. I could improve traction by getting more aggressive tread, but I don't want to give up the other benefits since I drive this everywhere. Either way bring a wrench.

In snow you have "good" traction. It will get you to point A & B, but if you wanna get a little funky with it you can break traction and regain it when needed by letting off the go-go juice... maybe... Just don't do it on public roads. No tire will ever make you drive like KENny from the BLOCK.

I am looking to get a new set right now and I'm considering getting the same thing. Tires still have about 20-30 tread life so they will make great spares for when the manure hits the fan and I finally push one of them past there breaking point.

...They also handle great in the rain and smooth on dry pavement...

This is my 3rd set of this tire I have installed on my 2012 Nissan Titan. The Goodyears that came with the truck were done at 11000. The prior 2 sets have lasted approximately 45000 miles. The tires have been great in the snow. Handled the last snowstorm in December 2020 with ease. Great grip. They also handle great in the rain and smooth on dry pavement. The aggressive tread is misleading which gives the impression of a rough ride. I hit a granite curb one time and the tire did not puncture. Happened once with another brand that punctured. My only minor complaint is that I hoped for a longer tread life. 50k and plus miles does not seem attainable although the tires still handle great when down to wear bars. I plan to continue to install the AT51 on my pickup as long as I own it.

...They handle well in dry and rainy conditions...

Purchased these in 2016 for my 2012 1500 Ram Express. I mean, they get the job done in CA for a light-duty truck. They handle well in dry and rainy conditions. Snow exposure was limited to winter trips to the Sierras, where they performed well in light snow. I've been most impressed by the tread wear (or lack thereof). After 50k+ miles the tread is decent. They'd probably last another 10k miles, were it not that I hit a couple of nails.

...they wear great.

I have come to know the ride and performance of the Kumho tire, no matter what vehicle I mount them on, is a win win tire. The price is right for my pocket book, the tire noise is low, and they wear great. Kumho tires are my favorite tires of choice for all of our vehicles, and for the last couple of decades.
