The Scorpion Winter is Pirelli's Light Truck/SUV Performance Winter / Snow tire developed for the drivers of today's powerful luxury crossover and sport utility vehicles. Pirelli's Ecoimpact icons branded on the sidewalls highlight the tire's contribution to the environment with regards to energy efficiency, clean air and low noise. Scorpion Winter tires are designed to deliver low temperature wintertime driving performance by combining predictable handling on dry and wet roads with traction in snow and on ice.

Pirelli Scorpion WinterFeaturing a tread rubber compound that introduces a new polymer blend and a higher content of silica components, the Scorpion Winter enhances grip and handling in typical winter driving conditions. The tread compound is molded into a directional design that features a rounded tread profile, modular center block geometry and stable shoulders to enhance dry road handling. Circumferential grooves help maintain good traction on wet and slush-covered roads while snow boosters ridges molded in the bottom of the grooves and multi-directional sipes help bite into snow and on ice.

Limited sizes of the Scorpion Winter are available with Pirelli's Seal Inside technology. Seal Inside utilizes an adhesive sealant that coats around the base of the embedded object or is drawn through the resulting hole, sealing the punctured area and allowing the vehicle to continue operating without losing air pressure. These sizes are identified on the Specs page and in the search results.

Note: Scorpion Winter tires in sizes up to and including 255 Section Widths feature a 3-rib tread design, while tires in sizes of 265 and wider Section Widths feature a 5-rib tread design.

Scorpion Winter Performance Winter / Snow radials meet the industry's severe snow service requirements and are branded with the three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) symbol.

Install Scorpion Winter tires in sets of four only.

Vehicles should always be equipped with equivalent tires at all wheel positions. These winter / snow tires, due to their exceptional snow and ice traction provided by their unique tread compounds, must be used in sets of four to help ensure proper vehicle control.

Limited sizes of the Scorpion Winter are available with Pirelli Noise Cancelling System, which involves the manufacturer adhering a layer of sound-absorbing foam to the inner liner of the tire to reduce cabin noise in the vehicle. These sizes are identified on the Specs page and in the search results.

...The Pirelli Scorpion Winter tires perform well in a wide range of road conditions like the Michelin X-Ice tires...

I was pleasantly surprised by the performance of these tires as my confidence in Pirelli tires was not high. I got these only because Michelin winter tires were not available in the 225/55R19 tire size of my wife's new Mazda CX-5. I've had previous experience with Bridgestone Blizzak WS70 and Michelin X-Ice XI3 & Latitude X-Ice XI2 winter tires. Between the Blizzaks and the Michelin winter tires, I much prefer the Michelin tires in our Seattle-area winter conditions. We typically have a lot of rainy days with some light snow mixed in several times a year and weekend ski trips with potentially deeper snow conditions. Black ice is probably our biggest concern as our morning temperatures are often around the freezing point. The soft rubber compound of the Blizzak tires provide great traction on snow covered roads, but feels mushy and vague in wet or dry road conditions that we typically have in the winter. The Michelin winter tires, in contrast, maintain good steering response and feel in all conditions. The Pirelli Scorpion Winter tires perform well in a wide range of road conditions like the Michelin X-Ice tires. If anything, they have a more sporty feel than the Michelin X-Ice tires given the relatively short sidewalls of the tires on my wife's car. Also, I've been impressed by how quiet these tires have been even on dry roads.

These tires are fantastic! They cut through slush and snow effortlessly. On ice, they handled really well, even with light to moderate acceleration for a V8. I barely slid once on an icy, frozen roundabout, but the tires quickly regained traction when I corrected. I was able to accelerate through corners with precision, and the front tires responded exactly where I pointed during some purposeful, spirited ice drifting. On dry roads, they gripped amazingly, with minimal road noise and a smooth feel. I did one solid burnout, and after a full winter of driving, the tires still have a ton of tread depth left. Ready for next winter season.

...They are by far the BEST performance Winter tires I've ever had...

This is my third set of Pirelli Scorpion Winters. They are by far the BEST performance Winter tires I’ve ever had. Have worn them on my Benz ML 350 and now my Benz GLA250 and they are fantastic! Truth be told one I used them all year long and loved them in the warm months as well. Can’t say enough. Also they look good, not at all like a winter tire. You won’t be disappointed!

I've had other snow tires (Bridgestone Blizzak) and while they are outstanding on snow and ice, the Pirellis are quite comparable to the Blizzaks under light to moderately snowy conditions. The Blizzaks will amply get you up steeper hills in snow 5-8 cm deep; the Pirellis don't have the bite the Blizzaks have in deep snow, but with AWD the Pirellis performed surprisingly well. For my driving, 95% of the time, the Pirellis are more than adequate. If you find yourself on snowy, slushy or icy roads more than 50% of the time, perhaps consider the Blizzaks. (If it snows more than 50% of your driving time, that is). My car has AWD; in traction mode I have yet to find conditions the Pirellis could NOT handle. However: ON THE HIGHWAY, the Pirellis are clearly superior.

The Pirellis are: QUIETER with less vibration; smooth and comfortable riding on dry pavement. I find that the Pirellis clearly outperform the Blizzaks under 95% of driving conditions, as most of the time, I'm on dry pavement. The Pirellis provide more nimble handling in most conditions. Accelerating, cornering, stopping and MOST NOTICEABLE: their quicker response to aggressive steering is clearly superior. The Blizzaks won't give you that "instant response feeling" as you make turns in the steering wheel...so under more stressful steering maneuvering, the Blizzaks really aren't the tire you'd want.

...I was concerned that these tires with the Winter Snowflake rating for snow would be noisy, vibrate and handle badly. I was wrong. I don't plan on doing the same level of back road spirited driving on them, but they handle quite well and I don't really notice a handling difference...

My GLE 53 AMG Coupe came with high performance summer only tires... in Pennsylvania!
I had no idea that under 45 degrees they would squeak and slip in my driveway.
Once I asked the dealer about this, they told me not to use the OEM tires in cold weather.
I did some research and learned that the OEM summer tires would be pretty useless in snow.
We don't have lots of snow, but it does snow every now and then and icy roads happen too.

I was concerned that these tires with the "Winter Snowflake" rating for snow would be noisy, vibrate and handle badly.
I was wrong. I don't plan on doing the same level of back road "spirited" driving on them, but they handle quite well and I don't really notice a handling difference.
I'm sure there would be a slight difference if I really pushed them, but I figure that isn't a smart thing to do with these tires anyway.

I really don't notice more noise, I feel the vehicle sounds fine and the same as the OEM tires.
No increased vibration that I can perceive and I'm very picky.

I have driven in light snow (up to 4 inches) and the vehicle is much more surefooted.
I feel much more comfortable and confident with them on the vehicle.
It seems to grab icy surfaces much better.
Wet highway performance seems good, not hydroplaning issues at all. They may even be better thant the OEM ones.
They grip well on muddy slick surfaces (not off roading but going over muddy areas on trails or totally soaked low traction grass).

I searched and searched... This is the only tire that will work well for your AMG GLE53 coupe.
I think there is a all season version, but I would get this one instead, since there aren't any drawbacks and I can't imagine what the all season could improve on over this this tire since this one is great.

There aren't many winter / snow tire choices in this size, but I can assure you this one is great and will do the job without any annoying drawbacks.
The vehicle still drives like an AMG when it is dry or raining.

Tires provide a comfortable ride, steer well, stop well in all conditions...

Tires provide a comfortable ride, steer well, stop well in all conditions. Handling, even during spirited driving is well balanced in dry and wet, and very good in snow. Last winter, I was living at a home where I had to ascend a very significant and lengthy hill to my house, as well as negotiate an extremely steep driveway to get into the garage. Many snow tires have fallen short in snowy conditions in this situation. The Scorpions were excellent in these difficult conditions. I strongly suspect these are the clear, best option in the class of tires that fits my X3 m40i.

...The only real negative I have is treadwear. It is awful. I have so far used these tires for a little over 11,000 miles, and they are all down between 5 and 6/32nd tread...

This has turned out to be a nice sporting winter tire, which is quite different from more "serious" winter tires like the blizzaks. Steering response is quick and controlled. They are responsive enough that if someone were to swap my goodyear all seasons for these on a cold day, I would generally not be able to tell anything had changed. They "feel" just like a sporting all season tire, which is great. Outright grip on dry roads could be better, but as the roads here are constantly covered in salt from November through March, I'm really unable to tell if the grip is bad or if the roads are just dirty (I suspect grip is a little low). Still, these are by far the sportiest winter tires I've ever been on. In the snow and ice, they offer about 90% of the grip of my previous blizzaks. They are certainly better than any all season you'll ever use, but they lack the tenacious grip of a true one-purpose winter tire. Overall, I view it as an acceptable trade off. In the past, I used to dread the winter months, as my blizzaks represented the death of any sort of handling feel for 4 months through the winter. The flexible sidewalls delayed steering response by a huge margin, and it felt like my I had traded my Charger in for a 2001 Chrysler town and country. With the Pirelli's, the sporting feel ls no longer sacrificed. The only real negative I have is treadwear. It is awful. I have so far used these tires for a little over 11,000 miles, and they are all down between 5 and 6/32nd tread. Just about done. I realize I'm running these on a near 500 hp car, but I have certainly NOT been doing burnouts or hooning around...it's winter after all. I'd say 15000 miles is about the most you can expect out of these. Still, it's a darn fine 15000 miles. Good snow traction, good noise levels, excellent sporting feel, and limits high enough to keep things entertaining.
