Tire Rack continues its partnership as the title sponsor for a
16th consecutive year.
The 2017 Tire Rack One Lap of America was the 34th running of the charitable, extreme challenge, street-legal road rally race for driving enthusiasts. It was an event of endurance and vehicle preparation. Featuring eight days of competition between many of North America’s fastest street-legal cars, the teams competed in nearly 20 timed competition events over 3,000+ miles during a week of skid pad, autocross, drag strip, racetrack and highway transit. Teams were self-managed, had no support crews and had to finish on the same set of tires on which they started.
“Tire Rack is proud to celebrate 16 years of a partnership with the Yates family as title sponsor of the Tire Rack One Lap of America,” said Matt Edmonds, Vice President, Tire Rack. “With four decades of experience in the tire and wheel industry, we feel passionate about continuing to support and educate drivers from all experience levels about the capabilities of their tires and how proper maintenance, traction, safety and durability can be maximized on and off the track.”
Outside of the performance aspect of the event, the Tire Rack One Lap of America’s focus was on charity. Many drivers raced for a cause and they were as varied as the drivers’ personalities. But the official event charity was The Brock Yates Tribute Fund, created in 2013 to support Alzheimer’s awareness and to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association.
Competition began at Tire Rack in South Bend, Indiana on Saturday, May 6th when Tire Rack hosted One Lap of America competitors to a Wet Skid Pad Challenge before they began their week-long trek. Competitors returned to Tire Rack for the final event on Saturday, May 13th for a Dry Skid Pad Challenge followed by the famous burnout celebration.
