The g-Force Rival S 1.5 is BFGoodrich's Extreme Performance Summer tire developed for sports car, performance sedan and sports coupe driving enthusiasts who want their tires tuned to lower their run times in solo, autocross, time attack and hill climb events. The g-Force Rival S 1.5 is designed to raise the limits by delivering extreme grip that's extremely predictable, with improved handling response over its predecessor. However, like all Extreme Performance Summer tires, it is not intended to be serviced, stored nor driven in near- and below-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.

A further evolution of the BFGoodrich Rival S, the Rival S 1.5 features an updated construction process aimed at increasing steering precision and transitional response. The Rival S 1.5 features the same tread compound as its predecessor, which is designed to offer maximum dry and improved wet grip, as well as offer quicker warm-up in competition conditions, yet continues to earn a 200 Treadwear rating in Uniform Tire Quality Grade (UTQG) testing. This silica-infused compound is molded into an asymmetric, three-rib tread design. Large, solid outboard tread blocks and BFGoodrich's Extreme Tread Edge (ETE) shoulder design wraps the tread compound farther down the sidewalls for predictable feedback and maximum cornering grip from start to finish. Lateral groove draft angles promote consistent performance and wear, while chamfered block edges resist feathering under extreme cornering and braking.

The tire's internal structure features BFGoodrich's Performance Racing Core reinforced internal structure that reduces flex to increase steering response. The tread is stabilized by twin steel belts and an Equal TEnsion Containment System (ETEC System) of spirally wrapped nylon to optimize the tire's contact patch and traction at speed. g-Control sidewall inserts tune the sidewall stiffening to promote steering response.

Note: Tires exposed to temperatures of 20 degrees F (-7 degrees C) or lower must be permitted to gradually return to temperatures of at least 40 degrees F (5 degrees C) for at least 24 hours before they are flexed in any manner, such as by adjusting inflation pressures, mounting them on wheels, or using them to support, roll or drive a vehicle.

Flexing of the specialized rubber compounds used in Extreme Performance Summer tires during cold-weather use can result in irreversible compound cracking. While compound cracking is not a warrantable condition because it occurs as the result of improper use or storage, tires exhibiting compound cracking must be replaced.

Customers Say

Customer ratings show the BFGoodrich g-Force Rival S 1.5 delivers outstanding dry traction and consistent grip for autocross, track days, and HPDE events, with many users reporting faster lap times and confidence in aggressive cornering. Wet performance receives mixed feedback, with some noting reduced traction in heavy rain or standing water, though many prioritize dry conditions. Treadwear is praised for a 200TW tire, handling dual-driver autocross use and multiple heat cycles while maintaining competitive grip. Drivers highlight its heat tolerance and predictable behavior at the limit, though cold-weather performance requires careful warm-up. Ideal for enthusiasts seeking a dedicated performance tire that balances durability with track-ready responsiveness.

Bought my first set of these last year primarily for autocross, with some minor amounts of road driving to and from events. These replaced my Dunlop Direzza ZII Star Specs (215/40-17), and in terms of outright grip they are light years beyond the Dunlops. Super sticky when hot, tolerant of high slip angles and tolerant of rapid/violent transitions. On a 60 second course I figure they have cut 2-3 seconds from my lap times from before. And while not the primary reason for using them, they are also nicer to drive on the street: quieter and more comfortable.

Only downsides specific to the tire (and not the size I run) is that they do struggle some to find traction on colder event days between 40-50 deg F (not surprising considering the type of tire), and they aren't quite as good in the wet as the ZIIs were, or how the RE71Rs are for other folks.

Definitely will still continue to run these unless something better comes around. Already have another new set ready to install for 2018 autocross season!

I was not disappointed; these tires have serious grip. On mountain roads, they pull some incredible lateral G's and the staggered setup worked beautifully; the back end never once thought about stepping out. Very confidence-inspiring when braking before a corner...

I bought these tires to complement a set of 15x9 rims for my Miata. I chose a staggered fitment with 225/45s in front and 245/40s out back. I went staggered because A) 245s would have rubbed in front and B) I wanted a bit extra grip in back to keep the back end from getting squirrely. I was not disappointed; these tires have some serious grip. On mountain roads, they pull some incredible lateral G's and the staggered setup worked beautifully; the back end never once thought about stepping out. Very confidence-inspiring when braking before a corner. Keep in mind that these being a 200 treadwear "cheater" compound tire, they won't last very long even compared to some other 200 treadwear tires. Even so, the grip is so good that I'll keep buying these so long as they keep making them in these sizes.

The amount of grip these have is hard to explain, but you definitely want to watch your pressure. On track I typically run cold 30 PSI, warm 34 PSI, but after longer sessions(30+ min) the pressure would sometimes be 40+ PSI...

The tire rack review system doesn't let you accurately describe these tires. They are phenomenal for a street/track tire, by far the best in class. I have them installed on my IS38 1.8T Golf which is fwd and has 350whp/350wtq. I've auto-x'd in torrential downpours, done two track days, driven 13000+ street miles, drag raced a few times and the tires still have over 50% life left. The off the line grip is this tires biggest weakness. Once your are rolling they will hook and go, but off the line launches, even on prepped surfaces, will result in some wheelspin. My 1/4 mile times were actually slower with these tires than with all seasons. They aren't loud or obxnoxious, but compared to a normal passenger car tire you will notice a little more road noise. The amount of grip these have is hard to explain, but you definitely want to watch your pressure. On track I typically run cold 30 PSI, warm 34 PSI, but after longer sessions(30+ min) the pressure would sometimes be 40+ PSI. I would recommend these to anyone who does a few track days a year, but also daily drives the car!

One anecdote: I got caught in a blizzard with these on my way home from an event. Unbelievable amounts of freezing rain and snow/ice/sleet with nothing I could do about it. There were spots with 2+ inches of precipitation on the highway. These tires actually did a great job despite not being rated for it. Next year I'll make user to throw my all seasons in the hatch just in case.

...The steering response, traction and tread life are exceptional for this style tire... I generally put 8000 to 15,000 miles on the car per year going to events and competing...

I really like the BF Goodrich GForce Rival's. I drive my car to autocross events, not trailered, and I like the overall qualities of the tires. The steering response, traction and tread life are exceptional for this style tire. They warm up fast on the autocross course and provide the performance I'm looking for. I generally put 8000 to 15,000 miles on the car per year going to events and competing. I think it's hard to beat this tire.

...Very acceptable wear from the tires. I buy a new set at the start of every year/season...

Strictly a track car. Only street miles driven are to and from the track. Sometimes use a tire trailer, so some tires see zero street time. Car is stock drive train, with suspension and tire/wheel upgrades. 15x9 wheels with these 225/45 tires. I've been using the BFG Rival S 1.5 tires for three years now, and love the predictability and consistancy of the tire's performance. Running SCCA Time Trials and HPDE track days. Very acceptable wear from the tires. I buy a new set at the start of every year/season. This year being a little wonky due to COVID. First two sessions on the tires when they are brand new, they always exhibit a lower level of performance until scrubbed in. From that point on, they get better and better. Usually my best times are in the last event of the season, where the tires are worn. Rules require 200TW tires. Have considered other tire options many times (BS RE71R, Yoko A052)), but keep coming back to old reliable and never regret it. 2000 Mazda Miata.

I used one set as my daily + autoX tires on my 2nd gen Mini for over 10k miles about 17 autocrosses (avg. 8-9 (45) second runs). They still had enough tread for a few more events when I sold the car...

I use these for autocross with two drivers. These tires are really good at taking heat when you don't have much time to cool the tires down. Even on a sunny 86F day with 3 minutes between runs, the tires never got greasy.

I used one set as my daily + autoX tires on my 2nd gen Mini for over 10k miles about 17 autocrosses (avg. 8-9 (45) second runs). They still had enough tread for a few more events when I sold the car. I now have a dedicated autocross set on my 99' M3. I don't think they put the power down particularly well off the launch, but under hard breaking they are very manageable. Definitely forgiving in the corners if you steer too much, but still responsive enough for my car. I'm not sure if these will be my 3rd set of 200 tread wear tires when it comes time, but they are definitely in the running. I'm afraid the RE71R won't hold up to dual driver duty from a heat perspective and wear. Maybe try some Advan A052's?
