The Potenza S001 is Bridgestone's Max Performance Summer tire developed as Original Equipment for premium high-performance sports cars, coupes and sedans. The Potenza S001 is designed to combine low rolling resistance efficiency with maximum sports performance in dry and wet conditions. However, like all summer tires, they are not intended to be driven in near freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.

The Potenza S001 features an asymmetric design combining a large outboard shoulder, interlocking tread blocks and a central circumferential rib to enhance dry road steering response, high-speed stability and cornering precision. Notches in the shoulders expel water to the sides while high-angle lateral grooves in the intermediate ribs pump water into the wide circumferential grooves to help resist hydroplaning.

The tire's internal structure features a lightweight belt package consisting of twin steel belts supported by a spirally wrapped aramid/nylon cord reinforcement that reduces rolling resistance, enhances ride quality and ensures high-speed durability. Active rubber inserts in the sidewalls near the bead areas tune vertical sidewall stiffness to blend cornering grip with ride comfort, as well as increase longitudinal stiffness to generate straight-line braking forces.

Bridgestone Potenza S001 Reviews

Feedback patterns show the Bridgestone Potenza S001 delivers excellent dry traction (8-10 scores dominate), with strong grip and responsive handling praised for spirited driving. Wet traction earns mostly 8-10 ratings, though some note reduced hydroplaning resistance in heavy rain (3-5 scores in 15% of entries). Comfort receives positive feedback for a performance tire, though a minority report stiffness (6-7 scores in 20% of entries). Treadwear shows wider variation: 7-8 scores suggest acceptable longevity for summer tires, but frequent 0-4 ratings (20% of entries) indicate potential durability concerns under aggressive use. Category-appropriate strengths align with its Max Performance Summer focus.

OEM tire. I think they are better than reviewed. Very good wet, great dry. A bit noisy but what do you expect. Feel very confident in the rain and around corners. I push the car pretty hard and I have not had any (unintended) wheel slip. I will not be having these on in sub 50 degree weather. Will swap to Michelin PSAS4’s. But will probably put these back on for the summers.

...Despite that, I have found that they have performed very well in the wet/cool climate of Seattle. Wet traction is quite a bit better than with my previous car. I have been able to make quick maneuvers and accelerating in the wet while maintaining full control, little slippage...

These are the original tires on my car. I had to replace one of them due to a flat caused by a giant nail into sidewall.

It seems a lot of mx-5 owners say the originals are no good but they seemed to have worked well for me, although I haven't had a chance to compare with different tires yet. Despite that, I have found that they have performed very well in the wet/cool climate of Seattle. Wet traction is quite a bit better than with my previous car. I have been able to make quick maneuvers and accelerating in the wet while maintaining full control, little slippage. They aren't usable in snow/ice (yes I tried a couple times for short distance).

The tires are practically silent on the road.. inaudible noise at most speeds except perhaps on the roughest of roads. Comfort wise, it is somewhat harsh at least compared to typical all-season tires but not too bad.

After 11k miles of hard driving, my tread remaining on tires is still 6-7/32" which means I only lost about 2 to 3 from the full depth.

I think it's excellent for preventing hydroplaning. I got stuck on the interstate during a heavy rain storm, with large puddles in the middle of the lanes. I was in a rush to get home and I was driving way faster than I should have been, 65-70 mph, hitting puddles that made me feel like I was floating, and constant heavy rain posed no threat. I even took gentle curves at the same speeds and didn't feel any traction loss...

I don't agree with other reviews on the poor wet condition traction. I even took gentle curves at the same speeds and didn't feel any traction loss. Also of course has good dry performance.

The bad is very clearly the noise. It's excessively loud, especially on rough paved roads. It sounds like driving on the sleeper lines/rumble strips on the highway. Sort of to be expected with a performance tire, but I am replacing these and I'll be sacrificing some dry performance and responsiveness for some quieter tires.

Great tire, zero complaints. Driven aggressively, very good grip, no tire squeal. The tires don't flat spot if I don't drive the car for a few days.

...I love the handling and feel safe in stopping along with spirited driving.

Well to be honest I'm just a little disappointed because my '06 Infinii G-35 Sport Coupé MT-6 with REV motor. I have 19" wheels staggered and takes 245/35 ZR19 and 275/40 ZR19 the rear 275/40 is available in RFT But the front 245/35 ZR19 IS NOT AVAILABLE IN RFT
I'm a big fan of Bridgestone Potenza's and wished they make the 245/35 ZR19 in a RFT tire. So I'm running RFT in rear and NON RFT in the front, since they're staggered it shouldn't make a difference. I love the handling and feel safe in stopping along with spirited driving.

...The ride is quiet and comfortable for how sporty the tires are...

I was relatively happy with these tires coming with the 2016 MX-5 Club, but they leave a lot to be desired, especially considering the price point and tread life. On dry pavement, they handle quite well and are predictable. The ride is quiet and comfortable for how sporty the tires are. I only drove on the road with these tires, and for the most part they were plenty fun for road conditions.

Where they are not very strong is when it's wet. I was on my second summer with plenty of tread driving in moderate rain, about 50mph on a big open highway, and they almost lost traction out of nowhere on a slight curve. There wasn't a ton of standing water or anything, this was where you'd easily see a random minivan going 60mph in worse conditions. Needless to say, I drove very conservatively in any rain after that. They were also very easy to break loose when it was the slightest bit wet. My winter tires, Pirelli Soto Zero 3, were almost better in every regard, outside of steering response and road noise which goes to be expected. I should be looking forward to when I can take off the winter tires and put on the summer tires, not the other way around..

I put maybe 10-15k miles on them and they were getting pretty low. I drive spirited, but I'm not constantly drag racing, braking hard, and carving up windy roads. The majority of time was commuting. They just aren't anything special for the low tread life, high price point, and underwhelming performance. They feel more like a good all season that's only really good at dry/warm weather.

...They were quiet and comfortable with very little noise...

The Bridgestone Potenza S001 AO tires are excellent tires. I can't compare them with another set of tires as the tires were OEM on the vehicle. However, I am very satisfied with the tires after 3300 miles. My vehicle handles well and stops quick. I have driven the Audi TTS on a 1000 mile trip down to New Orleans and back. The tires were great on the highway. They were quiet and comfortable with very little noise. I have also taken the TTS on rides up in the mountains of North Georgia. The tires gave me great great confidence in the mountain twisties. I will probably never push the vehicle beyond the capabilities of the tires.

Most incredibly amazing handling tire and fantastic and all aspects. unless I was a millionaire I would never buy them again because I wore out the front two in 2500 miles and got another 2500 miles on the rear once I rotated them to the front. If you don't care about the cost these are the most absolutely amazing tires I've had on a car in the 45 years I've been driving.

I have these tires on the front of my AWD car, and I have an amazing 69,029 miles on them (time to replace). I have driven them in almost all conditions imaginable (dry, wet, ice, light snow, big city where I live, highway). I usually drive faster than others (0-60 in 4.0 seconds is addictive). I have noticed I get great gas mileage with these tires on the highway. They corner and handle well. I did have a blowout on the highway once (severe pothole), and I drove them at slow speed with a golf ball-size hole in the sidewall for 20 miles to a tire shop (they are run-flats). I don't have anything negative to say about these tires.
