The ContiSportContact 5P is Continental Tire's Max Performance Summer tire developed for the drivers of some of the world's most prestigious high performance sports cars, coupes and sedans. The ContiSportContact 5P is designed to deliver steering precision, cornering stability and short stopping distances in dry and wet conditions, However, like all summer tires, they are not intended to be driven in near freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.
The ContiSportContact 5P benefits from a tread compound with Continental's Black Chilli Technology that features an innovative type of racing-grade carbon black to ensure a speedy warm-up along with special grip resins that optimize traction on wet and dry roads. These new carbon blacks and resins blend the rubber's flexibility (important for traction) with the tread's rigidity (important for handling). This compound is molded into an asymmetric tread design featuring a continuous center rib (or multiple ribs in wider sizes, especially those tuned for rear axle only applications) flanked by a large number of small, interlocked tread blocks. Circumferential grooves help water flow through the footprint to resist hydroplaning while the transverse block edges divert water away from the tread blocks to improve wet traction.
The tire's internal structure features a rolling resistance-optimized cap and base tread ("cap" on the outside with the "base" underneath), along with twin steel belts reinforced with spirally wrapped polyamide (a mixture of heat-resistant synthetic aramid fiber and nylon threads) that enhance the ride quality while tuning the contact area's vertical flexibility and lateral rigidity.
Limited sizes of the ContiSportContact 5P are available with Continental's ContiSilent Technology, which involves the manufacturer adhering a layer of sound-absorbing foam to the inner liner of the tire to reduce cabin noise in the vehicle. These sizes are identified on the Specs page and in the search results.

Customer feedback data reveals the Continental 4x4 Contact delivers strong dry traction (scores 8-10) and adequate comfort, with many praising its smooth ride despite some reports of road noise. Treadwear scores (4-5 average) raise concerns, with multiple reports of premature wear limiting long-term value. Winter traction shows mixed results (scores 3-7), with some drivers noting struggles on ice and packed snow. Wet performance is inconsistent, with hydroplaning resistance varying widely (scores 1-9). While the tire excels in dry conditions typical of its all-season touring role, buyers prioritizing winter capability or extended mileage may want to consider these limitations carefully.

...However I must admit these tires deliver an exceptional driving experience...
After reviewing survey scores and reading the reviews I was sceptical about these tires. However I must admit these tires deliver an exceptional driving experience. This winter we drove through 12" of unplowed snow with out hesitation. It offers a very quiet and comfortable ride on the highway. In heavy rain there is no hydroplaning. I highly recommend the 4x4 Contact and will purchase again.

...Dry ride is impeccable; all of my passengers commented on the quiet, smooth ride from the Hayden and Denver airports.
I was initially concerned with this OEM tire. I purchased the vehicle as a ski truck and was unsure how the Contacts would behave in the Colorado mountains. Several trips over Loveland and Rabbit Ears Passes and I'm amazed how well the tires performed on snow-packed roads.
Even more surprising, they also did fine maneuvering the vehicle in and out of an icy, tight driveway on the side of the mountain above Steamboat Springs.
I'll probably move to dedicated snow tires for next winter but these tires didn't keep me from reaching my destinations.

Mixed results with concerning scores between 0-6. Some report poor wet traction, sliding, and hydroplaning, though others give 9s-10s. Disappointing inconsistency for an all-season tire's intended use.

...In the slightest shower, you feel like you are in life or death driving conditions...
These came on my 2019 MB GLS450, and I am already going to replace them. They are HORRIBLE, possibly the worst tires I've ever owned. In the slightest shower, you feel like you are in life or death driving conditions. In dry, you can practically watch the tread disappearing.
Horrible.

...Wet traction is miserable. These tires will hydroplane at the thought of water...
These tires are woefully incompetent at everything they do. Dry traction is ho-hum, likely from the bizarrely soft sidewalls. Braking traction is also just ok, lots of wandering with light braking and even more when you get into them. Wet traction is miserable. These tires will hydroplane at the thought of water. The real fun starts when the snow begins. These tires are complete garbage in the snow. Slush, ice, compacted snow, all of it. They float, wander, have no feedback, and basically make travel at anything over walking speed treacherous. There is exactly ZERO chance I will ever buy these tires again. Don't waste your time!

...Recent drives in moderate to heavy rain have been very uncomfortable as car failed to track well. Drives fine on dry roads, but very unsure in wet conditions...
Tread wear not good, and matches poor 360 rating treadwear rating. Disappointing to have to replace an OE tire at 34,000 miles. Tread is now down to 4/62 (3mm) which is minimal for my wet Pacific NW climate. Recent drives in moderate to heavy rain have been very uncomfortable as car failed to track well. Drives fine ofndry roads, but very unsure in any other condicions. Has not done well the few times I have driven in snow. Would not buy again, and will switch to a MIchelin tires for the next set.

Winter traction shows mixed results with many scores between 0-4, indicating slippery snow conditions and unstable handling. Some drivers report getting stuck despite occasional higher ratings, highlighting unacceptable performance for an all-season tire's intended use.

...Terrible traction and dangerous in winter driving...
Great highway tire, everything else not so good. Should not be listed as an all-season tire. Terrible traction and dangerous in winter driving. Traction is not good even in dry after 10k miles. Longer breaking distances and bad traction when accelerating or towing. Due to safety, I am purchasing new tires from a different manufacturer.

... they provide terrible/scary winter driving characteristics.
Garbage tires - went through 2 sets of 4 and both only lasted less than 10k miles - tread wore out very quickly and they provide terrible/scary winter driving characteristics.

Treadwear shows concerning inconsistency with many 0-5 scores indicating rapid wear and dissatisfaction. Customers report premature wear, needing early replacement, and poor mileage. While some rate 7-10, numerous complaints highlight excessive wear and tread life below expectations for an all-season tire.

Head2Head Mercedes-Benz AMG GLE63 S Hot Lap(03:55)
Motor Trend Head 2 Head's Randy Pobst and Tire Rack's Matt Edmonds brought the Mercedes-Benz AMG GLE63 S to Big Willow - where SUVS aren't the norm - to see what it can do on the track. With its big engine and enormous brakes and Continental ContiSportContact 5P tires, it should be an interesting ride.
