The CrossContact LX20 with EcoPlus Technology is Continental Tire's ecologically friendly Crossover/SUV Touring All-Season tire developed to help crossovers, sport utility vehicles and light-duty pickup trucks perform on the highway and in mild off-road conditions. The CrossContact LX20 is designed to enhance driving pleasure, save fuel and maintain grip when braking on wet surfaces while providing long wear and all-season traction, even in light snow.
The CrossContact LX20 with EcoPlus Technology uses an all-season tread compound featuring Continental's Tg-F Polymers and +Silane additives to improve treadwear, fuel efficiency and traction on slippery roads. The compound is molded into a symmetric tread design with notched outboard shoulders, independent intermediate tread blocks and continuous center ribs to blend on-road steering response and straight-line stability with reduced noise and enhanced ride comfort. Four circumferential grooves enhance wet traction while Continental's Traction Grooves (featuring ridges in the outboard grooves) promote three-dimensional snow-to-snow traction.
The tire's internal structure includes twin steel belts reinforced with spirally wrapped polyamide on top of a polyester cord casing to combine strength with ride comfort. Most sizes of the CrossContact LX20 come with a flanged lower sidewall to help reduce the possibility of curb damage to expensive wheels.

Customers Say
Customer surveys indicate the Continental CrossContact LX20 excels in comfort, with a smooth ride and low noise earning consistent praise. Treadwear receives strong marks for long-lasting tread, though isolated reports of rapid wear appear. Winter traction impresses in snowy conditions, though ice performance shows mixed results. Wet traction delivers reliable grip and hydroplaning resistance, while dry traction earns top marks for stability and responsiveness. Ratings highlight its all-season versatility for crossover/SUV drivers, with most categories scoring 8-10. A few lower treadwear scores suggest variability, but overall satisfaction remains high for touring-focused use.

...They are as good in the rain as promised...
My initial impression is very good. The ride in particular is just about perfect for a CUV. Firm but not harsh, very smooth, little noise. They are as good in the rain as promised. I will add comments once I try them in the snow. They replace GY Eagle LS2's and are a big step up. Compared to GY Triple Treads on my other vehicle they are quieter and ride better.
I have not noticed an improvement in MPG but I probably don't have enough miles on them yet to say conclusively.
I cannot comment on treadwear yet but since I have read mixed reviews I will explain why I took the chance. First comments from a forum for my particular car are 100% positive with no treadwear complaints. Second the owner of a tire dealer helped me evaluate these plus 3 others. He recommended a couple of the others over these so he was not pushing them. On his own truck, heavier than my vehicle, he reported seeing no signs of wear at 40k.
Normal people don't care what their tires look like, but those of us who obsess over tires are not always counted as normal. These look just fine but they are not attention grabbers. If turning heads is your objective Pirelli or Bridgestone might be worth a look. I considered both along with Firestone LE2 but made my decision based upon price - Black Friday sales. Also, 12/32" tread depth on these is more than the others. Assuming wear will be similar these will either last longer or have better resale value come trade-in time.

The tire has handled well in the rain and I've never beed disappointed in dry weather...
The primary reason for writing: The way these tires handled in the snow. I bought this tire for fuel mileage and for low road noise, I was prepared to be underwhelmed with the tire's ability to handle in snow. Those in the Philadelphia PA ( the Northwest suburbs -- where we have hills) area are aware of the recent snow storm (3/2/18). A few fellow employees got stuck on there way home and called for help. I drove the truck through unplowed back roads (with drifts -- 6"+) in an effort to go where others couldn't to pick up my fellow co-workers. The truck never got stuck, never slid, up hills and down -- on snow and some icy conditions. Overall, the tire/truck package handled excellent in the snow. The tire has always handled well in the rain and I've never beed disappointed in dry weather. The road noise is very low. In the "for what it's worth" category, I'm not one to spout an opinion with a review, but the overwhelming success with these tires in the snow made me a believer. I was driving a 4 wheel drive pick-up truck, and obviously this helped, but I've been very disappointed in the past with other tires. I have confidence in the tire package. I will buy them again.

...Dry & Wet Traction is superb (live in SC so ice and snow wouldn't be encountered ex on a trip, but lots of rain), handling, cornering, stopping etc are all excellent as well as being quite...
I have 100,000+ miles on the '09 Ford Explorer. 1st of tires were OE Michlins (OK and lasted about 35,000 miles), replaced them with Cooper CTS tires (again, OK with good wear almost 60,000 miles). However, those tire are absolutely not comparable with the Continental CrossContact LX20 with EcoPlus Technology tires (H speed rated). The Continentals are the best tires I've ever had on any car I've owned (over 10 cars/SUVs). Dry & Wet Traction is superb (live in SC so ice and snow wouldn't be encountered ex on a trip, but lots of rain), handling, cornering, stopping etc are all excellent as well as being quite. I would absolutely buy these tires again and 100% recommend these tires. I could not be happier.

The Continental CrossContact LX20 earns strong winter traction ratings, with most scoring 9s and 10s in snow and deep snow. Ice traction shows reliable performance for an all-season tire, though occasional lower scores (4-6) suggest minor concerns in extreme icy conditions.

These are great great tires. I have never commented on anything before but I have to tell you after an ice and snow storm the other night these tires drove me home like was dry pavement. Ended up picking up three people stranded on the side of the road! Great comfort etc... I will report back about the wear.
Good luck with your shopping. Chris

Wow, with 215,000 miles on the truck I have bought my fair share of tire, but these take the cake. In the summers I surf fish and find these tires (although not rated) as superior in sand. In the winters we routinely travel to upstate NY and VT and while we have only been once this year and only had them in deep snow and ice 3 or 4 times this year, WOW they are great!! Traction is awesome, hardly need 4wd but when enabled I don't think anything can get these tires spinning. NO complaints, perfect tires, I have owned the factory Pirelli's and Bridgestone Duelers they cant compare to the performance of these tires. If you are on the fence, BUY them. About ready to purchase same set, different size, for my 08 Outback.

...The very next day after purchasing and mounting the tires I went on a 1000 mile road trip... and unbelievable wet, snow, and ice traction considering it's an all-season tire...
Slightly more expensive in the size we wanted than the ExtremeContact DWS but the shop was sold out of that tire and suggested this one. After reading a few reviews, I decided to go for it. The very next day after purchasing and mounting the tires I went on a 1000 mile road trip. The difference between the OEM tires was dramatic. Much much less road noise, a firm and positive steering response, and unbelievable wet, snow, and ice traction considering it's an all-season tire. The treadwear warranty is also a little longer than the ExtremeContact DWS. 2000 miles later and the treadwear is minimal and the siping is still plenty visible.

...Excellent dry traction (no opportunity in 2 weeks to test on wet road)...
These tires replace a set of Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza that are about 6 years old with 5/32 tread depth and significant cracking on sidewalls and between the treads. After having the tires mounted and balanced, I immediately took a 1,100-mile road trip with three passengers, our camping gear, and the gear for a fourth person in our group who was travelling separately. The Continentals are noticeably quieter and more comfortable on the highway than the Bridgestones. Excellent dry traction (no opportunity in 2 weeks to test on wet road). I averaged 18 MPG for the whole trip -- about the same as before. I am very pleased so far with these tires.

...Only other negative is Fuel mileage dropped by about 2 MPG over the factory Continental TR but felt it was worth the tradeoff for a smooth, quiet ride with great wet and dry traction...
Replaced factory Continental TR tires with these. I really like the Continental CrossContact LX20 with EcoPlus Technology in all aspects except tire wear. Wore to wear bars in less than 30,000 miles. Religiously kept good alignment, checked air pressure every 2-3 weeks, rotated often, etc. They have an even, flat wear pattern and so I am perplexed by the high wear rate. I like the reduced noise and great ride these tires have but can't justify replacing with the same ones. Only other negative is Fuel mileage dropped by about 2 MPG over the factory Continental TR but felt it was worth the tradeoff for a smooth, quiet ride with great wet and dry traction. Almost the perfect tire for me.

We noticed instantly they were much smoother and quieter than the Nitto Crosstek tires they replaced, with excellent grip on wet and dry roads (admittedly on a heavy AWD SUV)...
We don't have many miles on these tires, but want to share our experience thus far.
When installing them I noticed they were very true, but took more weight than I expected to balance - average 2.0-3.5oz total per tire. They did balance perfectly though.
We noticed instantly they were much smoother and quieter than the Nitto Crosstek tires they replaced, with excellent grip on wet and dry roads (admittedly on a heavy AWD SUV).
The other thing we noticed instantly was a DROP in fuel mileage of 2-4 MPG on most road surfaces, and an average of 3.5 MPG drop over the first tank of fuel. Yes, it was the same driver, on the same basic routes and weather, with no other changes. I did run the tire pressure about 5 PSI higher than the vehicle spec (still well under max pressure of 45 PSI), which got it a flatter wear pattern and slight improvement in fuel mileage.
We'll see how they do as they run in, but was very surprised to see a tire supposedly designed for reduced rolling resistance to have so much more friction than the el-cheapo tires they replaced.

This tire has been a fantastic upgrade over the Goodyear's I had. I am most impressed with the ride comfort. If they wear well (time will tell) these are going to be my tires of choice for a while.

...These Continentals show promise, giving better gas mileage, a smoother ride, lower noise and more precise handling on demanding mountain roads after a thorough test under dry conditions...
Bought these after OEM Michelins were worn out at 35K miles. Michelins are my usual choice for replacements but those that came on the vehicle wore out way too soon, considering that my cautious wife was the only driver. These Continentals show promise, giving better gas mileage, a smoother ride, lower noise and more precise handling on demanding mountain roads after a thorough test undercadmittedly dry conditions Granted, it is early - but given the performance of the Michelins the Contis already exceed expectations.

...With 40K miles on them, they've gone from 12/32nds to 7/32nds tread depth...
These tires have been great for our "mom" vehicle use. I'm in the midwest where we get anything from 100* humid days to -10* icey days, and these tires have served me well for 3 seasons thus far. With 40K miles on them, they've gone from 12/32nds to 7/32nds tread depth.
They're not snow tires, but do well enough in snow. Never had an issue with a FWD vehicle in 6"+ of snow. Rain isn't an issue, and they perform like all other non-studded tires on ice. Tire noise has gone up a bit in the 40K miles we've driven on them, but it's not excessive. My only complaint on them would be the "feel" and steering resonse - they do have a "floating" feel to them. Not an issue with a mom-vehicle and mom-style driving, but they won't suit you well if you plan to corner hard.
Overall these tires have exceeded my expectations - I'm an engineer and worked in the tire industry for 10+ years while younger in school. I keep my tires inflated to what they should be per tire manufacture calculations based on vehicle weight, and I keep them rotated and balanced (every 10K or so as needed). My vehicles get regular alignment checks as well - all stated to show that I'm overly anal. At this point, the only other tires I'd consider for this style vehicle the next go-around would be Goodyear triple treads. The only downside to those is they're directional, so you're limited on rotation pattern.

I had 69,000 miles on the old ones with 4/32 tread left on all 4 tires with even wear all around. I could have gotten more miles of course, but did not want to compromise safety with wearing tread...
I just purchased these tires from Tire Rack to replace the exact same tire.....they were that good. I had 69,000 miles on the old ones with 4/32 tread left on all 4 tires with even wear all around. I could have gotten more miles of course, but did not want to compromise safety with wearing tread. I expect the same from these tires. We make frequent road trips around the Midwest and own a second home in Florida, so drive there at least once, maybe twice per year. I have never experienced a problem with these tires. I have a different but similar set of Continental's on my wife's Accord, and they are performing great as well. I will buy nothing but Continental's (used to be Michelin, but two crappy sets left a bad taste), so Continental's it is for my family.

...Wear has been even and better than expected with 7+/32nds remain after 30k miles...
Very smooth and quiet. Wear has been even and better than expected with 7+/32nds remain after 30k miles. Not really sporty feeling . Prior Pirelli Verde Plus had a somewhat nicer feel but no better in performance and not as smooth and quiet but were very good. Pirellis wore somewhat faster, too. Rarely experience any hydroplane or slight slipping issues on highway or around town so high traction rating. Very light feel. MPG was not as good as Pirelli Verde Plus (1-2 mpg loss) . Ride is a bit bouncy around town and highway driving ,which is a problem with this vehicle, but better than the factory Goodyears and not as good as the Pirellis. Tires look a little narrow and have an odd looking tread pattern as a negative. Smoother, quieter, longer lasting than Pirellis, with mpg and some feel negatives. Very good tires.

You have to drive on these tires everyday, too, including in the snow and on the ice. We brought tires from this category to Sweden with us to learn how well they'll do during the winter driving season.
CUVs and SUVs may not be the most efficient vehicles, but they can benefit from riding on more fuel-efficient tires. We evaluated three of the newest energy efficient tires for these vehicles. All feature the latest tread compound/internal design technology to minimize rolling resistance and maintain traction/road manners.
