The ExtremeContact DW (DW for Dry & Wet) is Continental Tire's Max Performance Summer tire developed for the drivers of sports cars, sports coupes and performance sedans. The ExtremeContact DW is designed to deliver good ride quality and serious performance on both dry and wet roads. Like all summer tires, the ExtremeContact DW is not intended to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.

ExtremeContact DW tires feature an asymmetric design with chamfered tread blocks and a continuous, outboard notched intermediate rib to enhance responsiveness and cornering stability. Continuous center ribs reduce noise and provide constant rubber-to-road contact to control the longitudinal forces experienced when braking. A high void-to-tread ratio with open outboard lateral grooves, wide circumferential tread grooves and notched shoulder blocks on the inboard intermediate rib and shoulder help disperse water to enhance hydroplaning resistance and wet weather traction.

The ExtremeContact DW features Tuned Performance Indicators - visible letters molded into the second rib from the outboard shoulder to alert drivers of the tire's performance levels. A visible "DW" indicates the tire has sufficient tread depth for dry and most wet road conditions and after the "W" has worn away, the remaining "D" indicates the tire has appropriate tread depth for dry conditions only.

The tire's internal structure includes twin steel belts that are reinforced with spirally wound jointless nylon cap plies to provide long-term integrity under high speed conditions while reducing weight and helping to provide more uniform ride quality.

...The poor weather traction for an aggressive all terrain has been exceptional...

Tire size for these was an intentional decision to go narrow. The poor weather traction for an aggressive all terrain has been exceptional. I don't take too much for granted in the rain so have not pushed their limits there. But snow, both light and +14" on and off pavement have been exactly what I had hoped for. Very sure footed. Not certain how much is the contact and how much is the tread design. But the compound has been good in conditions my old Dynapro's were lacking even early in their lifespan. Road noise is present, but these make of for that in every other way. Compared to similar offerings you won't be left with large spaces without siping/grooves as many others.
I have zero regrets and recommend them to anyone in the market for such a category of tire.

Bought and installed right before an ice storm. Was amazed at the traction these have on ice and snow. Even if i wanted them to slip/spin, they grabbed more than any of my previous sets of A/T, or M/T's. With the mileage warranty on these, it makes it that much better. Great grip in mud as well. Hard surface driving is smooth and predictable. Fantastic all around tire for light truck or suv. 100% recommend this to anyone for a mixed use tire

...These are not true winter tires but have performed admirably in the fresh mountain snow and most recently in the 8-10 inch accumulation we just had on the highway. 4WD is not an idiot pass on snow/ice covered roads, but these were a marked improvement in grip on the pavement... While too small to float I have been impressed with the ability to maintain traction in 6+ inches of snow on inclined unmaintained roads...

Put these on just before Montana winter kicked in. I just retired the Hankook Dynapro tires that were almost new when I bought my truck (245/75R16). They were not bald, but beyond my traction needs in the mountains. Stepping up to the Cooper Discovery Stronghold AT (235/85R16) has been a confidence inspiring change. These are not true winter tires but have performed admirably in the fresh mountain snow and most recently in the 8-10 inch accumulation we just had on the highway. 4WD is not an idiot pass on snow/ice covered roads, but these were a marked improvement in grip on the pavement. These are my 1st set of skinny tires, which might be a factor. However, the deep tread death and generous sipes are noteworthy features. While too small to float I have been impressed with the ability to maintain traction in 6+ inches of snow on inclined unmaintained roads.

If you on considering these tires I would HIGHLY recommend.

I cover a generous amount of highway miles. Both interstate and state route highways living in Montana. These are proving to be a great combination of road manners and off pavement traction. Running the dogs in the winter mountains is an enjoyable adventure again. The Hankook tires may have been slightly quieter when newer but cannot compare in traction on loose or slick surfaces. Well done Cooper.

Tires are nice, they balance well and ride well. Towed 14,000 lb 5th wheel with no issues. Hold up well to the weight of trailer. One of the best tires I've bought.
