The Grandtrek AT20 is Dunlop's Highway All-Season tire that was developed for the drivers of pickups and sport utility vehicles. The Grandtrek AT20 was designed to deliver low noise, a comfortable ride, and year-round traction, even in light snow.
The numerous Grandtrek AT20 sizes developed for the aftermarket are branded with UTQG Ratings of 500 A B and have been designed to provide a balance of traits appropriate for today's lavish pickups and luxury sport utility vehicles, while the few Original Equipment Grandtrek AT20 tires developed several years ago are branded with UTQG Ratings of 300 B B and appear to place emphasis on low rolling resistance to increase the vehicle's fuel economy above poor weather traction and treadwear.
On the outside, the aftermarket tires feature Dunlop's advanced all-season compound molded into a tread design that combines independent intermediate and shoulder blocks with a continuous center rib to enhance dry traction and treadwear. Then crosscut sipes, wide circumferential grooves and deep lateral grooves provide the biting edges needed to enhance poor weather traction. On the inside, twin steel belts stabilize the tread while a Dimensionally Stable Polyester cord body and bead design promote ride comfort, handling and treadwear.

Consumer experiences reveal the Dunlop Grandtrek AT20 delivers strong dry traction (scores 7-10) with responsive handling, paired with a smooth and quiet ride that earns consistent praise. However, treadwear receives widespread criticism, with many noting rapid wear and disappointing tread life (scores 1-5 dominate). Winter traction raises concerns, particularly in snow and icy conditions, while wet performance shows mixed results-some report decent hydroplaning resistance, but others note reduced grip in heavy rain. As a highway-focused all-season tire, it satisfies drivers seeking comfort and dry-road confidence but struggles with longevity and severe weather versatility.

...Good dry traction, ride comfort, and steering response...
With 4100 miles these tires have been good so far. Good dry traction, ride comfort, and steering response. The wet traction is good, however the hydroplaning resistence is just so-so. I imagine Ill be avoiding water puddles like the plague whenever the tires have worn down a bit. As far as noise comfort they seem to be pretty quiet, although I have undercoating on my truck and the Tundra is a quiet truck anyway.

...They handled fantasic. I have done some pretty fast highway driving. Cornering was great...
I bought this 2006 Tacoma New. Came with the Dunlop Grandtrek AT20. 245/75R16. These tires have been the best I have ever owned in my 24 years of driving. They handled fantasic. I have done some pretty fast highway driving. Cornering was great. Moving in and out of city and high way traffic was quick and responsive.
I took the truck when I first purchased it on a trip back to Tennesse. 4300 miles. Had to drive across the lower postion of Missouri; 450 miles in a torrential down pore of rain. Passing trucks that were going 50 or less with an off spray of water coming out from the semies tires. Needed to pass or do 50 for who knows how long. So hung on tight and pasted quick at about 70mph with no problem at all.
These are great tire and I highly recommend them.

...They provide very good dry handling, responsiveness, low noise and good ride quality...
My experience with these tires has generally been good. They provide very good dry handling, responsiveness, low noise and good ride quality. In the rain they are about average and snow traction is ok but nothing to write home about. I only have 12,000 miles on them and they seem to wearing fairly quickly (but evenly) which is a surprise since Im very careful about alignment and pressures. Id guess they are a soft compound tire which helps explain the good dry handling. If they make it past 45,000 miles Id consider buying another set, if not Ill look else where.

...I've got 30500 miles on my 4Runner and they are very comfortable on the road, quiet on the highways, have never let me down on dirt trails and mild off roading...
I'm not sure why these tires get such a bad rap. I've got 30500 miles on my 4Runner and they are very comfortable on the road, quiet on the highways, have never let me down on dirt trails and mild off roading. They also did fine the few times we've had ice and light snow here in metro Atlanta as long as I did my part. In those conditions drive like your grandmother is in the back seat holding a hot bowl of chili... Tread life is good, the edge tread is showing a little rounding but that's to be expected. They are definitely not a hard core mud tire (and shouldn't be judged to that standard) but Toyota picked a winner as an OEM offering.

These OEM tires are quiet and comfortable. They probably help with fuel consumption. None of those are reason why I bought a 4Runner. I mostly drive my truck in the winter and these are really pathetic in the snow. Living in one of the snowiest areas of the US, I always run dedicated winter tires on any vehicle I drive in the wintertime and I usually wait until snow accumulates before I switch over. The AT20s come off as soon as there is any snow.
Long story short, if you can only have one set of tires on you vehicle and plan on encountering ANY snow, these are NOT the tire for you.

...It is very smooth and comfortable, but the braking and the road handling responsiveness is terrible...
These also came OEM on my vehicle and it is not doing to well in my break-in period. It is very smooth and comfortable and all, but the braking and the road handling responsiveness is terrible. Even with four ventilated disc brakes, I felt that my old Xterra (drums in the back) on Geolanders AT +II did much better.

Mixed wet traction scores with concerning ratings between 0-5. Multiple reports of sliding and hydroplaning highlight mediocre performance, disappointing for a highway all-season tire. Some 8-10 ratings exist but don't outweigh widespread dissatisfaction.

...They may wear well but the wet traction is abysmal and the resistance to hydroplaning is non-existent. Michelin Defenders with under 3/32 treadperform better in wet conditions than these tires... After hydroplaning down Vail pass in a light thunderstorm, I've decided these tires are better suited for the trash dumpster than any driving condition.
My 2020 4Runner came with Dunlop AT20s from the factory. After just 3,000 miles, I can confidently say that these are the worst tires I have ever had on any vehicle I have owned. They may wear well but the wet traction is abysmal and the resistance to hydroplaning is non-existent. Michelin Defenders with under 3/32" tread perform better in wet conditions than these tires. I knew these would not suffice for winter in the Rockies but considered keeping them for summer. After hydroplaning down Vail pass in a light thunderstorm, I've decided these tires are better suited for the trash dumpster than any driving condition.

...in any sort of wet they were awful. I switched tires before the snow hit but given their performance in the rain, I wouldn't have gotten very far in the snow.
These were the stock tires on my Tacoma. They lasted approx 52K miles which is good. However in any sort of wet they were awful. I switched tires before the snow hit but given their performance in the rain, I wouldn't have gotten very far in the snow.

Have seen glowing reports, which I find incredible. One unfavorable review notes that rain makes the owner scared to death in this tire. I have the same reaction. When it rains, I go immediately into 4 wheel drive, and creep around turns and into stops. Its worse than driving on ice. Dunlop should look into hydroplaning problems. Ive had 2 jeeps, a pathfinder and this 4 Runner and never had this problem before. Have had numerous serious close calls even just after buying the car, and recently an accident. Although tires look in good condition, Im replacing them. Toyota should be shot for making these tires original equipment.

Winter traction receives concerning scores between 0-5, with many customers reporting slippery conditions, loss of traction, and getting stuck. Despite being an all-season tire, its snow and ice performance is unacceptable.

I cannot believe Lexus would put these crappy tires on a 50k SUV. I almost was killed becuase of the terrible snow/wet traction. I just got Bridgestone Revos and WHAT A DIFFERENCE! These tires should be banned!

...The tires are horrible in the snow, slush, and ice. They do ok in a light snow (less than and inch or two), but even then, they are unpredictable...
These tires came on my 4-Runner, I cant believe Toyota put such a horrible tire on an otherwise great vehicle. Traction for the first 5,000 miles was average to good. However, around 7,500 or so, things went down hill fast. Dry traction got worse, and then the snow started to fall. The tires are horrible in the snow, slush, and ice. They do ok in a light snow (less than and inch or two), but even then, they are unpredictable. They also form flat spots if you are parked for more than a day or two. Takes about 5-10 miles of highway driving to iron out the flat spots.
Will never buy these tires again, and as soon as Ive got the money set aside I plan to buy replacement tires, even though there will still be tons of remaining tread on the tire. They are just that bad.

This tire was the original when I bought the Sequoia. I am extremely disappointed. At about the 15,000 mile mark; my front tires were almost bald! Now, at just shy of 20,000; I need to replace the front tires and unfortunately, one rear tire as I have a side wall tear. The Sequoia has not yet been off rode and the only thing I have 'towed' are 5 elementary school kids for carpool! I am extremely disappointed in the tire and Toyota for choosing such an awful tire.
