The SP Sport 5000M is Dunlop's Ultra High Performance All-Season radial developed for Original Equipment use on coupes, performance sedans and sporty crossover vehicles. The SP Sport 5000M is designed to provide ultra high performance and all-season versatility by blending traction on dry, wet and wintry roads, including in occasional light snow.

The SP Sport 5000M molds a high performance all-season tread compound into a symmetric tread design consisting of a continuous center rib flanked by independent intermediate and shoulder blocks that blend traction, treadwear and rolling resistance to meet a wide range of driving conditions. Full-face, engineered crosscut sipes provide more biting edges for slush and snow traction. The tires' internal structures include twin steel belts reinforced by Dunlop's Jointless Band (JLB) technology that uses spirally wound nylon to provide high-speed durability while it reduces weight and helps provide more uniform ride quality.

Dunlop SP Sport 5000 M Reviews

Ratings indicate the Dunlop SP Sport 5000 M delivers excellent dry traction (scores 8-10) and a comfortable ride, aligning with its Ultra High Performance All-Season focus. However, wet traction shows mixed results (scores 3-8), with some reports of hydroplaning concerns. Winter performance raises red flags, with many scores below 5 in snow/ice conditions, falling short of all-season expectations. Treadwear scores (averaging 5-6) suggest limited longevity compared to competitors. While drivers praise its dry grip and refinement, those prioritizing year-round capability may find its wet and winter traction inadequate for severe conditions.

...Yes, this is definitely a performance tire, dry handling is amazing...

I have had these tires on my car since I purchased it new with 5 miles on the OD. Being in Alaska means we get a little rain every once in a while in the Summer and then (sometimes brutal amounts) snow in the winter followed by ice during Breakup Season (what most people would call Spring in the lower 48).

Yes, this is definitely a performance tire, dry handling is amazing, but with the sturdier sidewall, any bumps or grooves are very noticeable by ride feel and/or noise. The noise has become louder as the tire has gotten older and the tread is half way gone. The only problem I had was that I had to buy an extra when I failed to see a massive tire eater (pot hole) and damaged the sidewall.

As far as winter handling, when I drive cautiously in snow or on ice I have had no problems but I have not had a reason to test it further. I don't know how people are driving for the winter/snow ratings but they might need to slow down. Again, this is a performance all-season tire, it isn't meant to do well in the winter but it certainly isn't sub-4.

I will probably not purchase these again due to the price being high, for the same specs I can get something the same or better for less.

Do your homework.

...Dry traction is good...

Horrible and inconsistent wet traction. Need to drive very carefully whenever it rains or snows I have had some scary and dangerous experiences. Had many problems ensuring they stayed at the correct pressure could've been a finnicky bead problem. Ride quality and noise are alright not great. Dry traction is good. Overall terrible tire don't buy, if it comes on a car you bought just beat on them until you need to buy new ones almost at 39k and will need new ones in a month or two. Will happily replace these with some Pirelli P7 AS+ 3's. Love Mazda but these tires are garbage.

...The real strength of this tire is handling, cornering, and stability at high speed. There are sections of highways I use with a 75MPH speed limit. The tires are very steady and stable @ 75+. I sneak up to 100MPH when no one's looking. No problem. I rated it at 9 out of 10 for cornering and dry traction. Steering response is excellent. The tire tracks true and goes wear you point it. I rated it 10 out of 10...

I bought a used Hyundai Genesis with the Dunlop OE tires.
The car and tires had 18,000 miles on . I've driven 2500 more miles.
I like the tires on this sporty 4 door sedan. The car has a lot of built in sound deadening so the tread pattern noise is not bothersome and disappears above 40 MPH.
The ride comfort over bumps, potholes, and tar strips is noticeable but not harsh or annoying. I rated ride comfort and noise level a 7 out of 10.

I've driven the car on wet pavement and in heavy rain. The wet traction is good but not great. I rated it 8 out of 10. I have not driven in snow but did get stuck in my lawn on a flat spot. I'm guessing snow and ice traction would be about the same near to none
I measured the remaining tread @ 5/32 of an inch. That's half gone at 20K.
The car had obviously been well taken care of including wheel alignments, tire rotation, and balance. I've had the tires rotated and balanced @20K.
The tire wear on all tires is even and smooth. The tires have no cupping or worn wear patterns.
I won't buy another set of these tires after another 10K miles when they're due for a change.
I'm going for a softer, quieter, more luxurious ride probably a Pirelli Cinturato P7 all season Plus which should get better mileage also.

...The ride is very comfortable for my 45 minute commute...

I live in MA. Today was the first day the snow stuck, and it was an immediate no-brainer-I need new tires ASAP. It was only a dusting of snow, yet the car slid at every curve in the road. In the rain, I can be sure to have some hydroplaning at least once per drive. I was surprised to see the price on these. I was sure they were going to be under $75. I've been okay with the dry conditions. However, my husband, a bit more aggressive in his driving, has complained that the car doesn't grip well, particularly in turns. I think the noise level is fine. When I make calls on speaker, I check with the other person and I'm always told that it isn't noisy to them. The ride is very comfortable for my 45 minute commute. To sum it up, the rain and snow are the key reasons for replacing these. I do not feel safe with these tires.

I am so disappointed with the fact that Mazda made the decision to put these on my 2017 Mazda3 Grand Touring. I have never felt more uncomfortable driving in wet weather in my life and it only gets worse when I accelerate from a stop if the pavement is wet. Whoever decided to claim in the marketing department that this car handles wet pavement must have just had them use the mist setting from a hose.

In dry weather these tires hold up pretty well, I still have issues of losing traction if the car accelerates too quickly for the tires to handle which I find funny since these supposed to be high performance tires. The road noise can get annoying at times but usually I can ignore it, however feeling every single bump is not my idea of an engaging or fun drive.

It is safe to say I am going to be Dun with these tires as soon as possible.

...In light snow they are dangerous. In an inch or two of snow they are nearly worthless...

Dunlop SP5000 came as OE on the car. They are perhaps the worst tires I have ever had. Wet traction is terrible. In light snow they are dangerous. In an inch or two of snow they are nearly worthless. I recently had one sidewall go out. I have replaced two of the tires with Dunlop Signature HPs as a test. I will buy two more if these run well, as I expect them to. The last thing that galls me is Dunlop sells these pieces of junk for $176, almost $60 more than better performing Signature HPs.

...They wore quickly and unevenly, even with regular rotations and frequent air pressure checks...

I'm not sure what might have possessed Toyota to install these as OEM tires on a 6,000 lb. Sequoia, but they did. This may be THE worst tire I've ever owned. They wore quickly and unevenly, even with regular rotations and frequent air pressure checks. The sidewalls were far too mushy for a vehicle this size and the amount of "sway" was noticeable. The vehicle never felt planted and I was relieved when it was time to make them be gone.

Do not even consider this tire. So many superior options out there for the same or less coin.
