The SP Sport 5000 is Dunlop's Ultra High Performance All-Season radial developed for drivers of sports cars, sporty coupes and performance sedans. The SP Sport 5000 is designed to provide ultra high performance and all-season versatility by blending traction on dry and wet roads with traction in light snow.
Depending on the tire size and/or Original Equipment vehicle application, the tires feature either an asymmetric or symmetric tread design to tune their comfort, traction and performance characteristics. Most lower profile sizes feature an asymmetric tread design that feature large interconnected outer shoulder blocks and independent intermediate tread blocks to enhance dry road cornering and stability, while the inner tread blocks with open shoulder grooves enhance wet traction and reduce the risk of hydroplaning. Most higher aspect ratio sizes feature a symmetric version with large shoulder blocks, notched intermediate ribs and a continuous center rib to balance dry cornering and handling with wet traction and hydroplaning resistance.
Full-face, cross-cut sipes engineered into all sizes provide more biting edges for slush and snow traction, and an exclusive high performance all-season tread compound is used to blend traction, treadwear, and rolling resistance to meet a wide range of driving and weather conditions. The tires' internal structures include twin steel belts reinforced by Dunlop's Jointless Band (JLB) technology that uses spirally wound nylon to provide high-speed durability while it reduces weight and helps provide more uniform ride quality.

...In the dry, you can roll these through any turn and go confident knowing traction will continue. I'm a pretty aggressive driver and don't mind pushing tires to their limits...
Do NOT buy these tires if you live in an area where it rains, unless you're a cat and have lives to spare. These tires came stock on our 22 Corolla SE and have to be the WORST tire I've ever experienced in my life with wet traction/handling. These tires are a lot of fun if all you'll encounter is dry weather though. I'm a pretty aggressive driver and don't mind pushing tires to their limits. In the dry, you can roll these through any turn and go confident knowing traction will continue. Toss in a drop of water and you better hang on. Water left from a mist is dangerous. Standing water during heavy rain is dangerous. With 17000 miles on these, they still have a bit of tread, so tread life is good, even with really spirited driving in dry weather. Can't complain about that. I'm not sure how Toyota got away with putting these on a regular car most will buy to commute daily in. It's a great value if you'll only drive during warm/dry days. Even cold days are "ok" with traction, maybe a bit more of a slide or late reaction based on steering input. Seriously avoid if you value your life in wet weather. There are better, cheaper, tires out there that will get you home in one piece.

Wet traction disappoints with many scores between 3-5 and some as low as 0-2. Customers report sliding, hydroplaning, and mediocre grip on wet roads - unacceptable for an all-season tire's intended performance.

...On top of that, they're very noisy and unpredictable in corners and have a tendency to randomly get too hot too fast and that still doesn't compare to how awful they are in the rain. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if drag slicks handled better in the rain because these are nightmarish. Absolutely will kill you any chance they get in the rain, my Corolla would break loose at highway speeds without much throttle and cornering at any speed in the rain is a hazard...
I would not recommend this tire to my worst enemy.
These tires came oem on my Corolla and I used them for daily use and for a good amount of spirited backroad driving. After 42,000 miles of mostly highway use mine were at 2/32nds and I had one blow out on the highway without warning. Overall horrific tire, doesn’t matter what the pavement is like they will DEAFEN you with how much noise they make. ...Wet traction is low but at least predictable and loss of traction is pretty linear. At this point, wet traction is a joke, the tires break loose just trying to leave a stoplight as other cars pull away without issue...
Trash. Came OEM on my car. They were hydroplaning on the first rainy season. Wet traction is low but at least predictable and loss of traction is pretty linear. At this point, wet traction is a joke, the tires break loose just trying to leave a stoplight as other cars pull away without issue. Dry traction started out ok, but has now become unsafe. I still have a decent amount of tread left, I'd estimate at least another 10k miles before I hit the wear bars. But the tires lose traction with moderately firm braking, as would be used in an emergency - well before I would expect a tire to and much worse than previous quality tires I've owned.
I traveled for a contract a year ago and had these in light snow. Amazingly, I got stuck in about 2" of snow on a 4 lane road, with tons of other cars driving right past. Had to get a pull from a friendly Jeep owner who was amused at how pathetic my traction was. I've driven in snow before without issue on other AS tires.
The only positive is that treadwear has been decent and wear has been even. The fact that these cost more than a quality tire from Conti, BFG etc is a joke.

...Traction in the wet is poor, and in the snow is completely unacceptable for all-season tires. It is very easy to lose traction and squeal the tires in wet conditions, in a low-horsepower Toyota Corolla. You can basically forget about driving in the snow...
Tires have started to dry rot, with cracks in both the tread and sidewall after only 2 years and 40,000 miles. This is entirely unacceptable for tires that are less than 2 years old. The performance of these tires was fine brand new, but over time have gotten much worse. Tires are extremely loud, especially on certain types of asphalt. Comfort is ok, but you really do feel a lot of bumps on these tires. Dry performance is fine and always has been. Traction in the wet is poor, and in the snow is completely unacceptable for all-season tires. It is very easy to lose traction and squeal the tires in wet conditions, in a low-horsepower Toyota Corolla. You can basically forget about driving in the snow. Tires were installed by the dealer before I bought the car and have been an absolute nightmare overall. Would not reccomend.

...Wayyy worse even with light snow. No grip whatsoever...
Ive had these tires since 2018. They are decent. Predictable around corners on hot sunny days. I feel nervous driving when wet. The tires slip easily. Wayyy worse even with light snow. No grip whatsoever. Slides around during heavy rain if youre going over 60mph. Quite scary. I still have about 5000- 10,000miles on the steer tires but Im definitely slipping under decent to hard acceleration. The tire looks good but they are noisy as well.

Frequent low scores (3-6) for comfort, with complaints of harsh ride and unbearable noise. While some rate 7-10, widespread dissatisfaction highlights poor ride quality and jarring sound in this all-season tire.

...Comfortable & cornered well. A little after the first tire rotation they began to get noticeably loud...
This tire came with my new vehicle. For the first 10,000 mi they were fine. Comfortable & cornered well. A little after the first tire rotation they began to get noticeably loud. Then louder and louder. At 30,000 mi it's difficult to have a conversation. I've never driven in the snow/ice but the water traction is horrific. It's difficult to modulate the throttle at lights to keep them from spinning. In the dry the performance/cornering is fine (other than the loud noise). At this point they are harsher and crash over bumps. They've been rotated regularly and inflated at the proper level.

Many customers report unacceptable tread life, with scores between 0-5 indicating premature wear and dissatisfaction. While some rate it 7-10, excessive wear and early replacement concerns dominate feedback. Disappointed in mileage expectations for an Ultra High Performance All-Season tire.
