The Destination M/T2 is Firestone's Off-Road Maximum Traction tire designed for the drivers of Jeeps, pickup trucks, full-size SUVs and dedicated off-road vehicles looking for a tire with capability that backs up its rugged looks.

Tread Callout

Utilizing a chip- and tear-resistant rubber compound molded into an aggressive, high-void pattern, the Destination M/T2 is designed to travel far from the beaten path. Taking lessons learned from Firestone's extensive experience designing tires for agricultural use, the tread blocks feature 23 degree attack angles for optimum pulling power on loose surfaces. Its serrated upper sidewall lugs are more aggressive than those on the previous Destination M/T to provide improved side bite for traction in soft terrain, and the mud and stone ejectors between the tread blocks clear debris from the tread to prevent damage from stone drills. Compared to its predecessor, a 20% increase in the number of biting edges improve traction on wet, slippery surfaces and in the snow.

The internal construction of the Destination M/T2 is designed for durability, with three polyester casing plies intended to improve resistance to punctures, and two high-strength steel belts with a nylon reinforcement to stabilize the tread.

Destination M/T2 tires are pinned to accept optional metal studs to increase ice traction.

Wet traction earns praise (7-10 range), offering confident performance in muddy or slippery off-road conditions. Winter traction scores vary (7-10), with strong results in deep snow but occasional mixed feedback on ice. Treadwear receives standout ratings (9-10), highlighting long-lasting tread for aggressive off-road use. ...We get a lot of rain in Florida. While the overall weight has increased with the upgrades, we have not noticed a significant difference in wet traction. If anything, the increased footprint is a plus...

JT mod 3" suspension lift with 2.25 RESI, method 305 wheels and these Firestone M/T2's. Tight turns are not as easy as the factory 255/70R18. Probably also affected by the increased width in the footprint of wider tires and backspacing. Had to modify the wheel package with 17's in order to get the right backspacing for offroad no rub turning clearance on these 315/70R17's and ensure rim width was 8.5" for better bead contact during aired down sidewall flex (18's are less common wheel and tire size with less aftermarket options, especially in this backorder market). Once we had everything installed we hit the highway to hot springs ORV park. The 500 mile trip up saw 16.5mpg. The return trip down saw about 17.5mpg. Uphill vs downhill elevation change. Our factory mpg's were consistent 18-19 around town and highway. Not much lost there. Around town we consistently get 16.7mpg and maybe get around 16.2mpg on the more spirited trips with this new setup. Best meg's are seen between 47-57mph in 7th gear. 8th is rarely seen. The road noise is most noticeable around 44mph. Otherwise a consistent hum is easy to forget. Acceleration seems barely changed. Gear changes climbing grades we saw more frequent downshifting. Overall smoothness and handling are very dialed in both on and offroad with these tires. We get a lot of rain in Florida. While the overall weight has increased with the upgrades, we have not noticed a significant difference in wet traction. If anything, the increased footprint is a plus. In a few thousand miles we'll be doing the 5 tire rotation. Air pressure offroad was 19psi with no issues. The tire flexed into the sidewall when necessary while rock crawling. We never lost a bead. Pitch and roll was 27-29 degrees on the level 3 trails. On road we run 34-38psi. 34 is a little softer with less noise. For the tire, wheel and lift package we have this seems to be a perfect fit all around as both a daily driver and the weekend warrior fun. The tires look great also!

...The snow and ice performance surprised me the most- it's comparable to an older snow tire. I live on a very steep road and have a very steep driveway, and am able to back out of my driveway and drive up the road in 2WD with a dusting or a foot of snow on the ground. They STRONGLY resist hydroplaning in deep snow and slush at highway speeds and provide great directional control and braking on hard packed snow and ice...

I've had these on my Sequoia for about 5500 miles and have driven them around town, on the highway, deep and shallow snow, mud, rocks, sand and dirt, and they're the best all around MT tire I've had in nearly 20 years of using this type of tire. The snow and ice performance surprised me the most- it's comparable to an older snow tire. I live on a very steep road and have a very steep driveway, and am able to back out of my driveway and drive up the road in 2WD with a dusting or a foot of snow on the ground. They STRONGLY resist hydroplaning in deep snow and slush at highway speeds and provide great directional control and braking on hard packed snow and ice. These things are monsters in winter conditions! Off road, I run 13 PSI and between these tires, the ATRAC system and my rear locker, I have never been left for want of traction. Truthfully, if I could run low range in 2WD, that's all I'd need for most of the wheeling I do. Their noise level, or lack thereof is equally surprising. They're only *slightly* louder than the highway tires that were on the truck when I bought it. Again, comparable to snows in their noise. Dry street performance is good, but I drive it as if it's a truck, not a sports car. If you're buying a mud tire for the looks with no intentions of ever using it, get the cheapest one you can find or with whatever tread pattern blows your skirt up. But if you want a mud tire that will be more than just functional in all conditions, these guys are the ticket. I will continue to buy these until they wear the molds out.

...Just did a trip over 2 mountain passes on packed snow/ice and couldn't pass up the opportunity to test it in the deep stuff. Easily cleared snow in 12 to 14 inches, with some mud at the bottom...

Having run most of the popular M/T's out there including the prior Destination MT, I'm quite thrilled with this tire's performance.
My driving is a mix of highway, dirt roads, and occasional severe winter travel. My biggest complaint with the prior Firestone MT is that the rubber seemed incredibly hard and although good for longevity, performed poorly in winter conditions. Without naming names, I've run some tires that did great in winter, but were incredibly noisy and didn't last very long. I've run some MT's that wore like iron but bounced all over the road at highway speeds. The last set I had were the quietest, best handling MTs I'd come across but the price tag was near impossible to digest.
This new Firestone M/T comes with more tread new than any tire I've seen before, 22/32 of an inch. I almost have 4500 miles on them and my guage shows 21/32 front and 20/32 rear, prior to rotation. They are not the quietest but certainly not the loudest, and they have excellent road manners. The price was completely reasonable for a set of 4. Just did a trip over 2 mountain passes on packed snow/ice and couldn't pass up the opportunity to test it in the deep stuff. Easily cleared snow in 12 to 14 inches, with some mud at the bottom.
I should also mention that they are very stable under load, I'm not concerned with tires wandering when I have the truck and trailer loaded.
The "23 degree rake" is somewhat misleading as the tires actually had varying sizes and degrees of center lugs.
Overall I am thrilled with the tire's looks and performance. It will be no surprise to me to start seeing these all over the place.

I cannot say enough good about these Firestone tires. I am sold on them for ALL of my days. The truck had a well used set on it when I bought it and I was amazed at their performance when they were well used, I figured I would buy a new set, and they did NOT disappoint! I just finished upgrading my suspension and I was looking for good performing MT tires. I was going back and forth with BFG, GY, and Yoko tires and I settled for these. They are very gripy at first but after a couple hundred mile they settled down. I am very pleased on how they performed on and off road and they have a very nice ride for a MT tire.

...The tires look great, have great dry traction and very little noise, but have absolutely no traction in rainy weather...

Unfortunately, these are the most dangerous tires I have ever owned. I purchased these tires at a local Firestone store and have put approx 20,000 miles on them in about 18 months and have about 1/2 inch of tread left. The tires look great, have great dry traction and very little noise, but have absolutely no traction in rainy weather. This loss of traction started around 15,000 miles and has gotten progressively worse. I can't maintain traction, even at low speeds, fishtail in curves, and my traction control light is constantly activated. I have owned many tires in my 50 something years and these are by far the worst. These tires have become completely unsafe and I will replace them as soon as possible. I also purchased a set for my son several months ago, and he has only slight tractions problems in wet weather so far, but I will have to replace his too. Beware!

...Cornering is not bad as long as the psi is above 65psi. Good on on wet, dry, light snow, and ice...

Bought these as the last set of Nitto tires were unevenly. I believe that to be due to the heaviness of my truck and low max tire pressure of 35 psi on those. The ride on these is firm. Noise level not much higher than my nittos. Cornering is not bad as long as the psi is above 65psi. Good on wet, dry, light snow, and ice. May buy them again but not 100% sure.

...I bought them during the summer months and had no issues with ride quality or noise (despite me expecting them to be loud)...

These tires are on my daily use truck that I occasionally take off roading. They were replacements for a set of open country toyos and immediately I loved aggressive the look. I bought them during the summer months and had no issues with ride quality or noise (despite me expecting them to be loud). Off-road, they stood up to everything I threw at them. Deep mud and sand was no problem. Nice deep treads kept me gripped at all times and kicked out any rocks as soon as I switched back to pavement. I even rolled over a very large & sharp tree stump and thought "There goes that tire :( " but to my surprise they held up! I recently did some snow and ice off-road as well as icy river crossings with a sand base. The story is the same, this tire just holds up. I will be buying this tire again once I run thru this set!

...The M/T 2 tires are much quieter than the M/T 1 tires ever were. They also are much better on the highway. Steering response is much better and they ride and drive better...

I don't drive my truck much, only when I actually need a truck, maybe 1000 miles per year on average over the last several years. Consequently my previous set of Firestone Destination M/T 1 tires were still at 50% tread when I decided to replace them because of degradation due to age. I replaced them with a new set of Firestone Destination M/T 2 tires. The M/T 2 tires are much quieter than the M/T 1 tires ever were. They also are much better on the highway. Steering response is much better and they ride and drive better. At the same time they are at least as good and maybe better than the M/T 1 tires off road, especially in the mud. I have started driving my truck more frequently because we have started towing our new Roxor to off-road parks. I am very pleased and impressed with the Firestone Destination M/T 2 tires. I would definitely buy them again if I were to live that long.
