The Defender LTX Platinum is Michelin's Highway All-Season tire for the drivers of premium heavy-duty light-trucks. Designed to deliver a quiet, smooth ride with Michelin's notable craftsmanship, the Defender LTX Platinum blends striking aesthetics with year-round traction in dry, wet and even light snow.
Defender LTX Platinum tires bring a number of the latest Michelin technologies forward, including Evertread 2.0 compound, specifically formulated to resist abrasion under high load and high torque. This next-generation compound is molded into a symmetric tread built to maximize dry grip alongside Michelin's MaxTouch 2.0 Technology: optimized for each individual tire size in the Defender LTX Platinum lineup to evenly distribute stress in the contact patch, maximizing tread life and reducing uneven wear. Each of the three central grooves is molded with a widening channel running through it to allow efficient water evacuation while still maintaining surface contact over damp surfaces for the tire's usable lifespan. Thanks to the generous usage of wavy and lateral siping in the Defender LTX Platinum, it has the biting edges needed for all-season traction.
The internal construction of the Defender LTX Platinum contains a dual ply polyester casing supporting two steel belts. A polyamide reinforcement cap ply aids in handling performance and provides high-speed durability.

...Wet traction is great and treadwear is impressive...
I took a chance buying these since there were no reviews available. I liked the aggressive look and am happy I tried them. Wet traction is great and treadwear is impressive. I recommend these tires and would definitely buy them again.

...When the roads get wet from rain the tire still perform well!!! What makes this happen? The fact that most of the tread blocks have awesome sipes that go most of the way down the tread...
So this is an update to my previous review. No I did not buy the tires from Tire Rack but I did get the tires from a Firestone dealer. Now you might be wondering why i went with Firestone over BFG? Well a simple answer is I dont want to be like everyone else. Second I like the Firestone brand.
To start lets go with street performance and comfort. Being the fact that i have an LT it is going to be "stiff" compared to a P rated tire. That is to be expected. But even so the tire still rides pretty well in this size(265/70-17). On dry pavement it does just fine. I have good stability in turns. Good braking modulation. When the roads get wet from rain the tire still perform well!!! What makes this happen? The fact that most of the tread blocks have awesome sipes that go most of the way down the tread. Can I still slide in wet weather? You bet and that can happen with any tire but the Firestone holds up to it pretty well.
Snow traction? Well lets be honest, no matter what others say this tire is not a snow tire. Can it perform well in snow? I'm sure it can but not as well as a snow/winter tire. If you live in a place you barely have to deal with snow then you should be ok. Live where is snows all year round then this may bot be for you.
Now for the OffRoad Fun!!!!!! So those of you that understand that inorder to get the best performance OffRoad you need to air your tires down(depends on what your setup is to how much). Well I did so recently on a Pass in Colorado and I had to deal with Mud, Rocks, more than a dozen water crossings and Sand. To put simple lets just say the truck and tires didnt even sweat it!!!! I was a little worried but the truck and tires out performed my expectations on this!!
As for durability... Well I havents had a puncture yet and I'm hoping it never happens!!!
So would I recommend thus tire to you? If you are an avid OffRoader then absolutely!!!!! Use it as your winter tire? Not really!!
I hipe this helps others on thier decision!!!!

The Firestone Destination X/T earns excellent snow and deep snow traction scores, with most ratings 8-10. Ice traction shows strong performance (7-9 range for many), though a few lower scores suggest variability in extreme ice conditions. Ideal for rugged winter terrain.

...For a small part I was in 4WD but most of the way i was in 2WD. I did have 140 lbs worth of sand in the bed so that helped a bunch but overall I was amazed on how the tires handled the snow!!...
So I am back again for some more input for a wonderful tire!!
To start off I have a combine mileage of 30,000 from my personal truck and my work van(yes I convinced my boss lol)
You will see two other reviews from me that state how I already like the tire for dry, wet and OffRoad. Now for the winter review!!
Just to start everyone must understand that this is an "All-Terrain" tire and not a "Snow" tire. Yes it is 3 peak reated but a true Snow tire will be at the top!!
So I now live in the Mountains again and for Thanksgiving I got to drive through a bit of snow for a good distance. Just on my way home the day before in my work van I was getting curious and still being cautious. In the work van it was wonderful going up hill the entire way in a 2WD van without snow chains. Yes the 5 millions tons of weight probably helped. The following day I probably went about 30 miles on slick roads that were covered in snow(about 1 inch) and probably had ice here and there. For a small part I was in 4WD but most of the way i was in 2WD. I did have 140 lbs worth of sand in the bed so that helped a bunch but overall I was amazed on how the tires handled the snow!!
Now you might be asking yourself if you should buy the Firestone Destination XT, BFG K02 or a Snow Tire huh? Well to start it all depends on what you do. If you dont go OffRoad dont waist your money on an All-Terrain. To add if you dont have too much snow to deal with a good All-Season tire will do just fine. If you deal with a lot of snow every winter then you would benefit from a Snow Tire vs an All-Terrain. As for Destination XT vs K02? Well the K02 my be more popular but I can already tell the Destination XT is far superior.
Yes it may be a long read but I hope this information really helps you out!!

This has been the best winter tire that I have ran. Comparing to better than Blizzak, Winterforce, and Michelin X1. The winter traction is almost too good, because this tire is constantly digging for traction, even when I am hoping for some donut action...

...In the winter less trailers but feeding cows and putting out hay in the cold and snow...
This has been a really well designed a/t tire. Have nothing but good to say about this tire. I have a ranch in New Mexico so these tires are used in pretty extreme conditions all year long. I pull trailers 80% of the time from mud to dry dirt roads and highway. In the winter less trailers but feeding cows and putting out hay in the cold and snow. I say these tires for a/t tires are fairly aggressive. They handle everything very well and ride good drive good and wear good.

...Traction? On road so far so good. Only broke loose once but then again I have a pickup so that will happen from time to time...
So I just came from the Bridgestone Dueler Revo 3 into the Firestone Destination XT. To say the least I should have went Firestone to begin with. Now I do understand that I havent put that many miles on it amd i have only had it for a few days but I promise I got a good experience real quick.
To start off on the street there is no noise from the tire that I can tell. The comfort on the road is pretty nice for an LT too!
Traction? On road so far so good. Only boke loose once but then again I have a pickup so that will happen from time to time.
Offroad traction? Awesome to say the least!!! I did air down from 32 psi to 18 psi and the tire did not struggle to hold traction.
Winter conditions? Well I honestly cant say since I have already past winter and these are NOT a snow tire. Maybe they will do well.... Maybe they won't... I honestly have no idea.
How is it fitting this tire in 285/70-17 on a Ranger? Not bad keeping the stock wheels with no spacers, the Old Man EMU Lift and simply moving the front crash bars forward there is little to no rubbing when the front end is compressed.
I should add that with the tire VIN code the tire is NOT made in Thailand. Tire VIN code 1VN is for Canada EH'.
All in all I can say I highly recommend this to someone who wants an offroad tire but doesnt want a BFG KO2.

This tire exceeded my expectations with regards to tread wear longevity, traction, and comfort...
This tire exceeded my expectations with regards to tread wear longevity, traction, and comfort. I have taken this vehicle in some off road situations/conditions that I probably shouldn't have. I had more issues with clearance than any tire/traction issues. I did have "E" rated tires on my half ton GMC and kept tire pressures well above vehicle manufactures recommendations and still experienced a smooth and fairly quiet ride. I would purchase these tires again and would highly recommend.

...This is a very comfortable tire, drastically smoother ride coming from my last set of tires. Previously had Continental Terrain Contact A/T and Toyo A/T II but I would easily pick the Firestone tires over either. The Continentals were great but the ride quality was no comparison.
I handle fleet operations for a company that operates on mine properties in Arizona. I've had almost every name brand tire that you can put on a super duty in the last decade. Coopers, Michelin, Toyo, Nitto, BFG, Goodyear, Continental, General and even Master Craft tires in a pinch. Our vehicles see a lot of abuse and rough terrain so we aren't typically getting a lot of mileage out of our tires regardless of the brand. That being said, I'm someone that likes to try something different and I rarely get the same tire twice but with this Destination X/T I would easily purchase it again.
I've never actually bought a Firestone tire before but went with these on a recommendation of a Ford employee. Tread looks more aggressive than what I might normally go for but it drives great on regular highways and city streets. This is a very comfortable tire, drastically smoother ride coming from my last set of tires. Previously had Continental Terrain Contact A/T and Toyo A/T II but I would easily pick the Firestone tires over either. The Continentals were great but the ride quality was no comparison. Steering is still sharp, I've had other A/T tires that make the handling a bit sluggish but that is not the case here. Depending on the size, you actually are saving a nice little chunk of change with these tires over a comparable Toyo.

...I'm getting 40 to 50,000 miles per set and that's hauling heavy. They wear amazing...
This is my third set and I will definitely buy again. I’m a commercial hotshot driver. I haul heavy all the time. I have two sets of wheels and I keep them loaded with these tires. I’m getting 40 to 50,000 miles per set and that’s hauling heavy. They wear amazing. I had been a Dutrac fan forever but these destination, XTs have been way better for me.

...They wear so well that it is hard to tell if there is any wear at all...
The truck is a 2nd vehicle and has not been driven very much due to mechanical and engine swap issues but the tires are doing great. For the record these tires are my 2nd set of Firestone Destinations and they are a rock solid quality construction. They wear so well that it is hard to tell if there is any wear at all. The deal that I received from Tire Rack was even better then what Firestone quoted and also they could not supply the size that Tire Rack was able to do. All in all this purchase was a good deal in these days of high automotive pricing.....
