The Firehawk GT w/UNI-T is Firestone's High Performance All-Season tire developed for sporty performance sedans and coupes. The Firehawk GT is designed to allow drivers to feel the freedom of the road by blending long treadwear and responsive handling with dependable traction on dry and wet roads, as well as in light snow.

Firestone's UNI-T Technology focuses on three primary tire components, the beads, casing and tread, which influence overall performance by enhancing comfort, handling and traction. On the outside, the Firehawk GT molds a long wearing, high-silica tread compound into an asymmetric tread design that features large outside shoulder blocks to enhance steering response and cornering stability. Inside shoulder blocks feature more lateral grooves and sipes to provide the additional biting edges that aid traction in foul weather. The Firehawk GT radial's continuous center ribs enhance responsiveness, as well as wet and dry traction when accelerating or braking. The entire tread design features Firestone's Veri-pitch sequencing of block shapes and sizes to help reduce tread pattern noise. The Firehawk GT's structure includes twin, steel belts reinforced by spirally wrapped nylon to enhance driving control and provide long, even treadwear while minimizing weight and enhancing ride quality. A polyester cord body and hard rubber sidewall reinforcements enhance steering response and cornering stability.

Vehicles Used

2006 BMW E90 325i Sedan

Refreshed to address the year-round driving needs of today’s performance enthusiasts who may encounter intermittent light snow, the new Firehawk GT w/UNI-T High Performance All-Season tire line reestablishes the Firehawk GT name in Firestone’s family of performance tires. Designed to allow drivers to feel the freedom of the road, the new Firehawk GT blends long treadwear and responsive handling with traction on dry and wet roads, as well as in light snow.

In order to confirm how the new Firehawk GT tires measure up to some of today’s other High Performance All-Season tires, we compared the V-speed rated Firestone Firehawk GT to the V-speed rated BFGoodrich Traction T/A, Dunlop SP Sport Signature and Yokohama AVID V4s tires.

Our evaluation used 2006 BMW 325i E90 sedans, with new, full tread depth 205/55R16-sized tires mounted on 16x7.5" wheels.

What We Learned on the Road

Our 5.6-mile loop of expressway, state highway and county roads provides a great variety of road conditions that include city and highway speeds, smooth and coarse concrete, as well as new and patched asphalt. This route allows our team to experience noise comfort, ride quality and everyday handling, just as you would during your drive to school or work.

All four tires in our test delivered on their promise of responsive handling with comfortable road manners. As in previous tests, the Yokohama AVID V4s received praise for its comfortable ride and relatively low noise level, especially along the rough expressway section. Dunlop’s Signature Sport was not far behind, also delivering a smooth ride and scoring well with our team. The BFGoodrich Traction T/A and Firestone Firehawk GT both displayed acceptable ride comfort, while generating minimal but noticeable tread and impact noise over the course sections of our test drive.

At normal road speeds, the handling scores for the Traction T/A and Firehawk GT were a virtual tie, feeling crisp and delivering quick response to the driver’s input. The Signature Sport also handled well, with slightly slower initial response to steering inputs than the BFGoodrich or Firestone tires. The AVID V4s counter-balanced its advantage in ride comfort with a small reduction in responsiveness versus the other tires.

What We Learned on the Test Track

Our 1/3-mile per lap test track course includes 90-degree street corners, lane changes and simulated expressway ramps. Run in both dry and wet conditions, the test track allows our team to experience the traction, responsiveness, handling and drivability normally only encountered during abrupt emergency avoidance maneuvers or competition events.

In dry conditions, the Dunlop Signature Sport felt very responsive and nimble, slicing its way through the lane change/slalom and around the tight corners. Subjectively the overall grip level didn’t feel as though it equaled the tire’s responsiveness, but this didn’t hold back our team as this tire drove its way to the quickest overall lap time of this test. Very close behind was the Firestone Firehawk GT, which delivered stable cornering and balanced handling. The BFGoodrich Traction T/A was also easy to control at the limit, but lacked the ultimate grip needed to post the quickest lap time. Just like on the road, the trade-off in handling for ride comfort impacted the Yokohama AVID V4s’ handling. Overall grip felt quite good, while steering response and cornering lacked some of the precision and stability of the Dunlop and Firestone tires.

In the wet we usually see larger differences between tires. In this case, however, the differences were not as big as often seen in past tests. Only 4/10th second separated the fastest to slowest tire, showing how close all four tires are to each other. In the wet, the BFGoodrich tire lead the way with the quickest overall lap time, fastest time through the slalom transition and highest steady-state cornering (average g-forces). The Yokohama lapped our course only 2/10ths behind, where its somewhat slower responsiveness and soft handling in the dry proved to aid feel and driver confidence in the wet by providing plenty of feedback and controllability at the limit. The responsive steering of the Dunlop resulted in a somewhat edgy feel in the wet. In close fourth place overall was the Firestone Firehawk GT, which didn’t quite have the wet grip displayed by the other tires.

Customers Say

User feedback reveals the Firestone Firehawk GT delivers excellent dry traction (9-10 ratings dominate) and strong wet performance, with many praising its hydroplaning resistance. Comfort receives mixed reactions-some highlight a smooth ride, but frequent low noise scores (0-3) and harshness complaints suggest refinement issues. Treadwear ratings show inconsistency, with numerous reports of rapid wear (scores 0-5 common) despite some high marks. While its all-season capabilities meet expectations for dry and wet handling, noise and tread life concerns may deter drivers prioritizing comfort or long-term value. Performance-focused users rate it highly for responsive steering and confident cornering.

...Braking is very good and hydroplaning is a non-issue. Wet traction is very good and is hard to break them loose...

These tires have been great. The deep snow traction is fine as long as you don't have any steep hills to go up. They get going fine in snow and ice although a dedicated winter tire would perform much better. These tires do very well in the dry though. They corner with tenacious grip and steering is very responsive. The tire gives you a great feeling of control in every situation. High speed and low. Braking is very good and hydroplaning is a non-issue. Wet traction is also very good and is hard to break them loose. Road noise is average and treadwear has been good. Overall I have been very pleased with this tire.

...Wet traction is also great. I have never experienced hydroplaning with these. They have great Wet/Dry Traction...

I have bought these tires for three of my cars. They are great for sporty driving and for Amazing traction. I have had many cars and bought many different brands of tires, but these are far superior to most all of them. I feel much safer driving on these tires. Cornering is Excellent. Wet traction is also great. I have never experienced hydroplaning with these. They have great Wet/Dry Traction. I have bought them for a Cadillac CTS, a Mercedes CLK320, and now my Grand Prix. I would never buy or trust another set of tires for me or my family. Tread life is Excellent. I drive many miles per year(around 30,000 or so) and these tires really last! I can not say enough good stuff about them. Have not driven in snow or ice yet with them, but I wouldn't doubt there safety in either.

...wet traction was not bad as well. Hydroplaning resistance was decent...

This tire for my type car was absolutely horrid for driving in snow! Almost uncontrollable on freshly plowed streets. I felt like I was on pure ice! I have driven many miles in the snow over he years with plenty of different vehicles and this was the worst experience ever! These tires did not wear very well. After about 20,000 miles they started to get real noisy. On the up side, they did have very good dry traction and handled corners very well. I felt the ride was a bit stiff but steering response was very good. Also, wet traction was not bad as well. Hydroplaning resistance was decent.

Overall this tire is not to bad for summer use but you might want to purchase winter tires if you drive a lot in the snow.

First off anyone purchasing this tire needs to know that performance tires are not made for comfort. this tire was simply amazing i had pirelli pr all season tires on previesly and the firehawk gt put those to shame in all aspects. the cornering ability under dry and wet conditions is unbelivable. the snow and ice traction needs work but again you need to understand performance tires. i have kept up with all tire care thus far and tires are looking great. i would buy these againg but i would like to try brigstone potenza re050's whitch is the big brother to the firehawk gt

...Handling and responsiveness are much better; freeway entry ramps with curves that I could once only take at 40mph I can now maintain 45-50mph...

I have only had theses tires for about 5000 miles but they are a dramatic improvement over the OEM Michelin MXV4's that came on the car. The noise level on these tires is minimal at best, and I have noticed no decrease in my MPG. Tread wear remains to be seen, but anything can be better than the Michelins (20,000 miles and it was over). Handling and responsiveness are much better; freeway entry ramps with curves that I could once only take a 40mph I can now maintain 45-50mph. Additionally it's not as uncomfortable going around roundabouts as it use to be. So far so good, I would defiantly recommend this tire. The price was also very reasonable taking into account its comparables, if you are willing to get pass the "Firestone stigma".

...Absolute junk in the snow. Just trying to move on even the smallest amount of snow leaves you spinning...

The tires came as OEM on my 2014 Charger. As another user posted in their review, seemed smooth as glass first 1500 miles or so. After that they ran with a slight vibration and have gotten a bit noisier on anything but the smoothest of roads. Seems like you can feel every nook and mark in the road through the gas pedal and wheel. Absolute junk in the snow. Just trying to move on even the smallest amount of snow leaves you spinning. The Dry performance has been outstanding though. Car does move like it is on rails and sticks to the ground.

I'm not totally anti Firestone as I've had them on other cars and they have been fine. In fact I'm probably going to order the Firestone WinterForce tires very soon.

These are probably decent 3 season tire but due to the vibrations and zero performance in the least amount of white stuff I'll be looking for a different company in the spring

I purchased these to replace the OEM Pirelli Scorpions due to the noise, treadwear, etc. This was recommended by Tire Rack and a local tire dealer (I purchased from Tire Rack) While they were quieter initially, they are getting noisier, but not to the extent of the Pirelli's. My problem with them is that they make the ride "bouncier" hard to define other than that. The car also skips when it hits a bump ever since these tires were installed. Air pressure, etc. is as recommended. I would not recommend these tires for that alone.

...It was a noise so annoying that i had to turn my radio up to mask the noise and that doesn't even do the trick...

This tire is prone to Cupping and that was what I was told when I went to Firestone to replace the tires. Mine have started cupping last summer and finally i could not stand the noise anymore. It was a noise so annoying that i had to turn my radio up to mask the noise and that doesn't even do the trick. If it were not for this problem I could have gone months/miles with the back tires...the front ones were more warn so would have needed to be replaced first but I never replace tires 2 at a time I always do all 4.

...These tires are so loud and only get worse with time! They make my Jeep, with 31 BFG AT tires, sound like a Lexus. The road noise is unbearable...

I replaced the factory Bridgestone Turanza tires with the Firestone Firehawk GT. I am in sales and drive 30,000 miles a year in the company car. When the Bridgestones wore out the fleet car company would not approve the Bridgestones but recommended the Firehawk. These tires are so loud and only get worse with time! They make my Jeep, with 31" BFG AT tires, sound like a Lexus. The road noise is unbearable. I can only dream that I wake up in the morning and someone has slashed all four tires. Unfortunately, the tires with 25,000 miles look new. The treadwear has been great. Handling is excellent. The car's suspension restricts the handling, not the tires(it is a Camry). The best feature is the appearance of the tires. They look very sporty and aggressive. Snow driving was poor, but I would contribute that more to the car than the tire. Overall a good handling tire if you can bare the excessive road noise.

Tires are almost bald after 25000 miles with manufacturer specified tire pressures. The center ribs/channels wear away and the tires cause the car to be unstable over light snow, wet roads, and liquid tar road patch. The tires basically lose too much tread to be usable in snow. Avoid these tires if you live in a snowy climate.

OEM for 2016 Chrysler 300s. 29,500 miles with 3-4/32" left on tread.
Rotated every oil change. Tires in balance and car does not pull to side.
Horrible tread life. Tires have a softer rubber which does NOT last.
I thought the car came with these 'Premium' tires(costly) but proven otherwise.
I challenge anyone that got the 50,000 mile rating out of these ----ers.
I am gonna try a set of General (Continental) Altimax tires which have a harder
tread wear rating and good reviews. I just need a good all season tire that I
can get maybe 40-50,000 miles out of. Tires don't last anymore!

...When I took the tires off at less than 2,000 miles, the tires had already worn down to 9/32 so I have my doubts on longevity despite being rated a 50K tire...

These tires came original on my 2017 Chevy Impala LT. They ride OK and are reasonably quiet, but a high performance all season tire? - NOT EVEN CLOSE! Even new, very little traction in rain on the day that I picked up the car from the dealer. Light snow and ice, little to no traction either. I already ditched them for a set of Continental Pure Contacts - the Firestones are up on Craiglist if anyone wants them. New these tires are specified to have 10/32"of tread. When I took the tires off at less than 2,000 miles, the tires had already worn down to 9/32" so I have my doubts on longevity despite being rated a 50K tire. Even worse, the Continental were $50 per tire less yet handle much better than the more expensive Firestone. Sadly, this is not the first time I have not been happy with a tire that has come on a new vehicle with the Bridgestone/Firestone family of tires.
