General  G-MAX AS-05

These tires have been a huge improvement over the stock Hankook tired that originally came with my vehicle. Great dry and wet traction. Decent snow and ice. Worth the purchase.

This review is a summary based on two full sets of tires. I like the tires as they are well matched to my car's weight and fwd handling.
My experience matches tirerack.com testing. I primarily drive 30-60mph in suburban traffic on asphalt roads. I push my tires and these GMax do not disappoint in *driving* situations. Great dry and especially wet braking traction. No problems with abnormal wear or flat spotting or balance issues. Nice rim protector around bead. These tires give a LOT of performance for the low price point near $100 each.
I recommend them from a *driving* standpoint. The have a decent ride, and acceptable but not great tread wear. I got 19k on first set even though these are 50k warranted. My handling complaint is the tires are twitchy or sometimes tram line. My Corolla electric steering accentuates this negative attribute and it was somewhat present on 3 other tire brands I've run on this car. But I noticed it more with the GMax.

Here's the fly in the ointment complaint I have with these tires:

First, the sidewalls are very weak. In the first set, I cut the inside sidewall on the RR tire making a right turn from a stop at night, maybe moving at 5mph, and tire dropped into a rut and immediately went flat. I filed a road hazard claim and was promptly reimbursed. On the second set I'm driving now, I recently hit a well camouflaged pothole at 10mph and took out both tires (sidewall) on LF & LR. This stranded me. So had to get two more mounted....sigh.

Secondly, if you are prone to picking up screws in your tires, this tire brand is not a good pick. A puncture repair voids the tread life warranty. Right now I have 3 separate tires repaired. I was planning on submitting these tires for tread life warranty....which I could get back about half the tire cost or roughly $50 a tire. That's $200 for the set. Well, I've lost out on $150 now...

So while I really like the tire, I would carefully consider the cons before purchase!

With winter time fast approaching I had to put some new shoes on my Mustang GT being a daily driver. I went with the G-Max 05 because they were a great price and read good reviews on the older 03 versions. Had some heavy rain today here in Norfolk with temps around 43* and driving 70+ on the interstate I have to say these tires really impressed me and definitely left me feeling confident about my choice.

Dry traction is actually just as exciting and performed better then I had expected and actually much better than the P-Zero summer tires that were put on the car when I purchased it 6 months ago. I'm really hoping this tire delivers and does great in the snow even though we only get a couple inches a year I'll still need to be able to make it to work when it does so I'll update in another couple months.

Love these tires! The traction on wet ground and snow has been fantastic! I have a pretty aggressive driving style, and these tires don't break loose unless I put a concentrated effort into causing them to do so. For the price, these things are unbeatable!

Surprised. Impressed. Handles great. Ended up in a snow storm and it handled way better than I thought. Purchased to use during winter months. Glad I did.

I work overnights, so it was around 1030pm when I ordered these tires, and by 7am the next morning the order had gone through. Unbelievably the tires actually came the very next day, so I took them and had my local tire shop install+mount+balance all four. These tires are amazing, and believe me. I am hard on stuff in general, not to mention the fact that the day they were installed was the day before Winter storm Gia slammed us here in the Mountain State. Every bit of the almost 400 miles on this set of shoes, has been through every kind of winter/snowy conditions, and they truely have made me a believer, even tho I had my doubts; rear wheel drive car....! And this is 100%. No exaggerations either. I swear this v6 rwd c class benz was crossing mountains in eastern West Virginia, and passing 4wd pickups in the ditch...

Live in Germany and had a set shipped over. No report on snow as it has not snowed here this winter. Dry traction is predictable and the tire has more bite than the car. My 318 compact is fun and these tires are fantastic in the wet. Recommend them over the DWS contis I had. Very impressed.

This may be extensive and boring but possibly helpful. I chose these over the continental DWS and michelin pilot as due to price...reviews were similar but I feel these may deserve a higher rating than advertised.. (WET) I have the continental on my C63S AMG, and although they are very nice I found that the generals have better hydroplaning resistance and overall better wet characteristics than the DWS shifting water right out of the way. (DRY) In the dry I would rate them about equal for grip and steering response..that being said the Generals do move around a bit in the turns when pushed due to the numerous tread blocks compared to the DWS, however Once you are used to the movement they are very predictable. (SNOW)...Ok...here is where I am totally impressed. The accelerating grip is way above average, not quite winter tire specific grip...but very confidence inspiring. Where I was most impressed was the stability in breaking in the snow. We all know that being smooth on slippery serfaces is key...but I gotta tell you the straight line stability of these under breaking in snow was on par with winter specific tires. If you have a higher performance sedan and are looking for something other than the Michelin, continentals, or Yokes....I would highly recommend these. These tires are absolutely incredible when it comes to performance, and even better when it comes to value. I expected for the lower price point to be giving up some performance with these tires, but that is false. My Mustang GT, 6-speed manual, 3.73 gears, Brembo package, with its current mods, is making about 250-260 horsepower and these tire hook from any roll in the dry, and even with a proper launch! I am also very impressed with cornering performance and highspeed composure. I can push these tires harder in the corners than I am comfortable pushing a mustang in the corners. And at speeds excess of 150MPH "in safe conditions" they hold traction and help inspire confidence. These tires can be used on a track, at the drag strip, and especially for spirited backroad driving. I still am extremely impressed with how well these tires hold up under aggressive acceleration in the dry! As far as driving in the wet, again cornering and acceleration is more than enough, especially for spirited road driving. Granted I can't, nor do I feel comfortable, pushing these tires to their limit in my car, but that would be foolish anywhere other than a course with controlled conditions. I get more than enough acceleration in the rain in 1st and 2nd, and more times than not 3rd through 5th, which is my 1 to 1 gear, can be driven in wot in the wet with no break of traction. Friends and family members who have little to much more automotive experience than I have can all attest that these tires are incredible and way outperform tires in their price range, and shock others when I tell them their cost. As far as things like noise, and comfort, I noticed no negative impact from the tires. I drive a loud bumpy mustang so that isn't really important to me. As far as looks, they are great, especially going from 255 to 275's, they really go well with the car. Snow is something I have not used these in, and hope to be able to avoid. Hopefully, this review helps, I love these tires!!!

I have no complaints on these tires on my Charger R/T Rear Wheel Drive.
I drive a bit spirited. I don't smoke the tires or spin them launching from light to light but do like to goose it up on the super slab and push her in the corners a little when there are no passengers.
Normally a Michelin die hard I had 18" Premier A/S tires previously (not an ultra performance class tire) and upon upgrading to larger brakes I had to go from 18" to 20" wheels. The cost of the brakes was substantial and I winced at the Pilot Sport prices. And I most likely would never push those tires to their limits. So after riding in a friends Charger R/T AWD.
Tire noise will have me returning tires in short order and these are quiet.
Comfort is great, I was worried about loosing some to the 18" Michelin by going to 20" but did not. I do not miss the Michelin's at all.
Handling is improved, I have Bilestein shocks (not lowered) the turn in is great.
The big surprise is the wet traction and braking. The Premier A/S tires were famous for this and I was prompted to write this review after driving several miles in a down pour this week.
I know the route well and where all the water holding areas are and hunted them down for hydroplane testing. I run Rain-X which allows me to see enough to push the speeds a little and I am impressed.
I also tried to jerk them loose or toss the tail in some turns and she held. The same for braking, no complaints. Great performance.
Unless something new and better comes along at this price I'll not hesitate to run them again.
I like the wide contact patch and the rim protection.

I've tried to find something that I dislike about this tire, but can't ! I'd rate it an all around excellent tire, especially for the money. It doesn't quite have the stiffness of a pure UHP summer tire, but a few extra PSI's seemed to have taken care of that. I can't comment on longevity yet after only 600 miles, and no snow experience, either. However, keep in mind that this is an UHP "all season" tire that loosely translated means very little snow traction. In fact, (from my experience) there aren't many, if any at all, UHP all season tires that actually qualify as a tire worthy of performing in any snow...maybe just an inch or two at the most. I wasn't concerned about that aspect since my car is an Audi Quattro (AWD). If you drive in snow, get a pure snow tire. As far as dry/wet traction...exceptional ! Comfort and quietness = smooth and relatively very silent. No flat spots as others might have commented. Well done, General !

I just got these on my 2009 Range Rover and I love them! They are super quiet, comfortable ride, and best of all not too expensive. I replaced a set Conti Extreme Contacts that were louder and harder ride, although they seem stiffer and gave more responsiveness. However, I'm not speeding and with a Range Rover I'm not racing so don't need to spend and extra $70 a tire. These tires look great and perform well too.

I replaced the factory Bridgestone summer hi-performance tires with these tires. Car handling improved, as did traction in in-climate weather. Additionally, steering and cornering stability was much improved. Road noise is minimal for an all-season tire. I was changing the Bridgestone summer performance tires at 12000 miles and was quickly running on the tread bars. With 7500 miles on the Generals, I believe I can easily exceed 25000 miles before replacing. I am very happy with these tires, and I will happily return to Tirerack.com for my next set. I highly recommend these tires on the S550 Mustang.

I previously owned 2 sets of the Firehawk Indy 500 and in the dry these tires were better. However, due to their price increase, poor tread life and sub-par wet traction, I moved on. These will be my new go-to tire. It's a jack of all trades, is comfortable on the road and has double the advertised treadwear rating.

After 20,000 miles, I can say without hesitation that I trust this tire and would buy it again. Good cornering and dry traction, acceptable for a NY winter, comfortable in the rain. If the road is empty or if I'm far away from other cars on the on-ramp (and the conditions are right), I'll take a corner as tight as I can. These tires have not let me down.

There has been one notable issue though: the treadwear. I'm probably around 22,000 miles and I'm nearly at the wear-bars in front. Part of that is my fault for not rotating the tires as often as I should, but these manufacturer warranties the tires for 60k miles. I shouldn't be getting less than half of that, especially when most of my miles are long-haul on the highway. I'll be buying them again, but will stick strictly to the rotation schedule in order to take advantage of the warranty.
