The G-MAX AS-05 is General's Ultra High Performance All-Season tire designed for the drivers of performance sedans, sports cars and sporty coupes looking for a tire that effectively blends performance handling in the dry and wet with confident traction in all seasons, including light snow.

General G-MAX AS-05

Utilizing an all-season compound molded into an aggressive, asymmetric tread pattern, the G-MAX AS-05 features SmartGrip Technology to combine sporty handling with all-season traction. Large, stable tread blocks on the outboard and inboard shoulders deliver high levels of grip for confident high-speed handling, and the strong center rib provides solid on-center feel and responsive steering. Wet traction is addressed through the tread's high silica content, with four wide, circumferential grooves for increased hydroplaning resistance. Specifically designed block edges and strategic placement of tread sipes complete the all-season equation by creating the biting edges necessary for grip in wintry weather.

The G-MAX AS-05 features two-ply sidewall construction for improved handling responsiveness along with added durability. The casing supports two wide, high-strength steel belts, and a one- or two-ply polyamide reinforcement provides added strength for high-speed capabilities.

...Wet traction and response is great!...

So I only have around 1,000 miles on this set so far. Honestly have been impressed already. Relative to the Firehawk GT's that originally came on my car, these are virtually silent. Wet traction and response is great! Also, having been through two winter storms so far, they have done quite well for a ultra performance AS tire. Rim protection is excellent. For the price, I would put these in the "Best Bang for the Buck" category.

...My 318 compact is fun and these tires are fantastic in the wet...

Live in Germany and had a set shipped over. No report on snow as it has not snowed here this winter. Dry traction is predictable and the tire has more bite than the car. My 318 compact is fun and these tires are fantastic in the wet. Recommend them over the DWS contis I had. Very impressed.

...I have the continental on my C63S AMG, and although they are very nice I found that the generals have better hydroplaning resistance and overall better wet characteristics than the DWS shifting water right out of the way...

This may be extensive and boring but possibly helpful. I chose these over the continental DWS and michelin pilot as due to price...reviews were similar but I feel these may deserve a higher rating than advertised.. (WET) I have the continental on my C63S AMG, and although they are very nice I found that the generals have better hydroplaning resistance and overall better wet characteristics than the DWS shifting water right out of the way. (DRY) In the dry I would rate them about equal for grip and steering response..that being said the Generals do move around a bit in the turns when pushed due to the numerous tread blocks compared to the DWS, however Once you are used to the movement they are very predictable. (SNOW)...Ok...here is where I am totally impressed. The accelerating grip is way above average, not quite winter tire specific grip...but very confidence inspiring. Where I was most impressed was the stability in breaking in the snow. We all know that being smooth on slippery serfaces is key...but I gotta tell you the straight line stability of these under breaking in snow was on par with winter specific tires. If you have a higher performance sedan and are looking for something other than the Michelin, continentals, or Yokes....I would highly recommend these. Thanks for reading and I hope this helps someone who is trying to decide. safe driving

I am hard on stuff in general, not to mention the fact that the day they were installed was the day before Winter storm Gia slammed us here in the Mountain State. Every bit of the almost 400 miles on this set of shoes, has been through every kind of winter/snowy conditions, and they truely have made me a believer, even tho I had my doubts; rear wheel drive car...! And this is 100%. No exaggerations either. I swear this v6 rwd c class benz was crossing mountains in eastern West Virginia, and passing 4wd pickups in the ditch...

I work overnights, so it was around 1030pm when I ordered these tires, and by 7am the next morning the order had gone through. Unbelievably the tires actually came the very next day, so I took them and had my local tire shop install+mount+balance all four. These tires are amazing, and believe me. ...It snowed a week after I had these installed and I swear they have better traction than the Michelins...

After 9 months on this tire I am a General Tire believer. I came from running summer tires (Dunlop DZ102), and winter tires (Michelin X-Ice) which were on the car when I switched. believe it or not, I think these tires are actually better than either of the others. It snowed a week after I had these installed and I swear they have better traction than the Michelins. As the weather warmed, I noticed that the ride was better as well as less noisy than the summer tires. The biggest surprise was cornering grip. I really thought I was going to lose a lot going from a summer tire to these, but these are at least as good as those Dunlops. I rotated these after 10,000 miles, and there was a little more wear on the fronts than I had expected, but that's what I get for not rotating them sooner given my driving style. Either way I'm super psyched and would buy these again, and have recommended them to anyone asking about buying All Season tires in New England.

I just got these 1200 miles ago on my Chevy Sonic RS. Night and day between the OEM Hankooks and these G-Max AS-05s. Car handles much better around corners and curves on the highway entrance and exit ramps. Lane changes above 60 mph are smooth and responsive. Car feels like it wants to stay in contact with the road whether in straight aways, turns and stops. I will update this review after the winter so I can review the responsiveness in the snow/cold weather. Rain performance is very good with the limited rain I have driven in so far.

I am a rather spirited driver. I expect the tires to handle the road during all weather conditions. Although have only driven in rain and dry, I look forward to snow driving. I understand that it is an all season tire and not snow. So far when driving with these I am all smiles.

...Not for the track but tire holds very well on curvy country roads, didn't and won't be pushing the tire to find the heat limit but has done well on short sprints on curvy roads...

Very happy with this tire so far, only 500 miles in so no snow review yet. I bought theses to get as close to a summer tire as possible and still remain A/S. Not for the track but tire holds very well on curvy country roads, didn't and won't be pushing the tire to find the heat limit but has done well on short sprints on curvy roads. Tire grips great in the wet but haven't been in a down pour to test for standing water, should do well though. My car is a Mazda 3 so slightly under 3000lbs. I've run several different extreme summer tires on another car and while these won't grip like newer summer tires they do grip just as good as summer tires I ran years ago. Tires have come a long way in just a few years. I'm very happy so far and not expecting much in snow performace but not in a region that sees much snow.

I am eager to try these in the rain, and I expect them to be just as sticky as they are now in the dry...

I only had these tires installed yesterday, but I am very impressed already. I have a 2014 Cadenza Premium (245/45R18), which has a rather stiff suspension ... I would compare the ride quality to a 335i or similar. The car had the OEM Hankook Optimo H426 tire, which I happily replaced with nearly have its tread remaining on each tire. This General is the first UHP I've had in years, and right away, I was impressed how quiet they were. The ride seemed a little firm though...more than my liking. So I immediately stopped to check the tire pressure. The tire store put 39 in one and 37 in the other 3 tires. Too high. This car calls for 32. I dropped them to 35 each, and the ride instantly improved. I chose a 255 instead of the stock 245, and they look very beefy. There is also excellent rim protection with this tire. I am eager to try these in the rain, and I expect them to be just as sticky as they are now in the dry. I was worried that this tire would not be as smooth as the P Zero AS+ or the DSW06, and I've not driven on either of those...but reviews put those two tires at the top for comfort. But I can't imagine either of those could be any better than this one. First impressions, very impressed! I'll jump back in once I have some more miles to report.

...It's a jack of all trades, is comfortable on the road...

I previously owned 2 sets of the Firehawk Indy 500 and in the dry these tires were better. However, due to their price increase, poor tread life and sub-par wet traction, I moved on. These will be my new go-to tire. It's a jack of all trades, is comfortable on the road and has double the advertised treadwear rating.

...They soak up bumps without feeling too hard or too spongy.

With about 3000 miles on these tires, I can say they're a VAST improvement over the OEM Michelin Primacys on my Accord V6. The General tires feel glued to the pavement in both dry and wet conditions. No snow time yet but I imagine they'll be sufficient. They bite firmly in corners and inspire confidence without chirping or squealing. They soak up bumps without feeling too hard or too spongy. Same thing on braking - they bite well.

The tread is surprisingly deep - which I believe contributes to a bit of noise at higher speeds. Depending on the pavement, over 50 or so they tend to 'sing' a bit; a high pitched whirring sound. It's quite tolerable (so far) and worth the trade off considering these tires a real performance bargain.

Every car is different. But for my Accord, I wish I'd put these tires on from day one.

...Between about 30-40,000 miles I started to notice some uneven wear in the tread. This, I believe, is causing some drifting in the ride down the road. Performance, handling, and road noise is starting to progressively degrade quickly as well...

Thought I'd drop a review of this tire after driving on them for 40,000 miles. I have these on a 2013 Dodge Dart and have always kept them aligned and rotated. I put about 500-600 miles a week on my car to go go work and run errands. Between about 30-40,000 miles I started to notice some uneven wear in the tread. This, I believe, is causing some drifting in the ride down the road. Performance, handling, and road noise is starting to progressively degrade quickly as well. This is the third set of tires on this vehicle and all sets of tires have worn similarly and had to start considering replacement at around 40,000 miles. So I would say that the tread wear life on this tire is average. There is still sufficient tread on the tire and I would suspect I will be able to get at least another 10,000 miles out of them as long as I can tolerate the ride. With the kind of miles I put on my vehicle I can't justify spending the money on top of the line Michelin's. So a mediocre tire in this price range will work best for me. So far I believe these General G-Max's have out performed the previous Cooper Zeon's and the stock Kuhmo tires I've drove on and I would probably consider purchasing them again. I also like that they are manufactured in the USA which is another important factor for me when purchasing a tire because I like supporting American jobs.
