Most customers rate wet traction between 8-10, praising confident grip and hydroplaning resistance in rain. While a few scores dip to 5-7, the majority highlight excellent all-season performance with reliable handling on wet highways.

...Strong, quiet running, with great wet traction, what more can one ask for.
I've had these tires on my truck for about 5,000 miles now and am totally satisfied with their performance. I wanted a tire that was able to hold up to heavy bed loads and trailer weights as I regularly overload my truck. These tires have a extra load rating and strong sidewalls and you can see they don't look saggy or bellied out under load. Strong, quiet running, with great wet traction, what more can one ask for.

...Shortly after these tires were installed I did have the opportunity to test the hydroplaning resistance and was please at how they handled...
So far the early impressions are good. These tires have replaced the crappy Bridgestone OEM tire that was on here. Traction has been excellent, although I haven't had the chance to drive yet in snow and ice. They seem very quiet thus far and show almost no signs of treadware. Shortly after these tires were installed I did have the opportunity to test the hydroplaning resistance and was please at how they handled. So far, so good will update after another crazy NJ Winter!

...Wet traction has been great! As long as the tire are inflated correctly (read TireRacks articles about inflation, its essential)...
I've put about 15k miles on the tires so far. Wet traction has been great! As long as the tire are inflated correctly (read TireRacks articles about inflation, its essential). I'm a volunteer for local hospitals during snow emergencies and pick up/take home doctors and nurses. When we got the big one 20+ inches the week before X-Mas it was my 1st real test. As long as I was in 4 wheel, No Problem! I was driving on the fully snow covered Baltimore Beltway at half posted speed without any worries. I saw many cars hitting the Jersey Barriers. I was driving on many secondary roads (1st tracks) no problem. Traction control engaged only a few times. Note: I put a 5 for Ice-traction, but nothing except steel really works on ice.
Wear so far looks minimal. Much better then the stock Wranglers that came with the truck.

This tire replaces the original Goodyears which were not a great tire. These Generals have performed very well here in the New England States in the past two winters. One thing I really like about the tire is that it is sure footed, whether it be rain, slush snow, it give's you a lot of confidence when driving in the different types of inclement weather. I have four wheel drive and with these tires I find myself not using it as much. For the money these tires really perform and you won't be sorry for your purchase.

...The difference between these and the Goodyear Wranglers which came with it is like night and day. These Generals GRAB the pavement, whether it is dry, wet or snow...
I waited till I had some miles on these tires because I couldn't they were as good as they seemed when I got them. Well, 11K miles later and still impressed!!! The difference between these and the Goodyear Wranglers which came with it is like night and day. These Generals GRAB the pavement, whether it is dry, wet or snow. I always feared driving the Jeep with the "Wranglers" on it when it was anything but dry. I now have little fear of anything but ice, otherwise these tires and Jeep will get me anywhere. I will buy them again if the Jeep is still going by the time these tires wear out. Its been over 11K miles and they still look "almost" new. They can't be beat by their competition by performance or price. I just hope they are made in USA ;-)

...At first, they were fine, dry/wet/snow traction was pretty good and I was pleased overall but I thought they were a bit noisy and a little vibration...
I bought these tires right when they were released (first mistake), they were inexpensive and the two journal reviews I read were very promising. At first, they were fine, dry/wet/snow traction was pretty good and I was pleased overall but I thought they were a bit noisy and a little vibration. I had them road force balanced a second time and there was no change, still had some noise and vibration. But, after about 2,000 miles, the noise was getting worse as was the vibration. I was able to get one tire replaced as it was more "out of round" (radial runout) than the other three although I had to pay a small pro-rated charge. I should have known then that I was in for problems. The tires continue to get nosier and vibrate. At speeds of 55 mph or greater, the noise and vibration is horrible, worst tires ever. I would never recommend these tires and please don't judge them on the first few thousand miles.
Of course, I contacted General, they are of no help and the distributor won't do anything about it either.

...Quiet, comfortable, excellent traction in dry conditions, wet conditions, and especially in snow...
These tires absolutely ROCK! I am not easily impressed, and never expected to put General's on our Mercedes-Benz. But these tires were getting good reviews and were much cheaper than the Michelins (which we usually prefer) which were more expensive and wasn't reviewed as well. We had old, worn out Continentals and Dunlops which we really noisy. New tires are always nice, and I hope these Generals would be "good enough", but these are GREAT! Quiet, comfortable, excellent traction in dry conditions, wet conditions, and especially snow. I ABSOLUTELY would buy them again!!

...These tires feel really good on the road, it's a nice comfortable ride... They feel just a little squishy right now (which is great when pulling into parking lots, really smooth) but I suspect they might firm up a bit as the compound acclimates...
Just had these tires installed yesterday to replace my OEM Dunlop AT20s (41,500 miles). I probably could have gotten 5-10k more miles out of those, but after I got a flat in one, I just decided to replace all 4. After a week or so of reading on-line reviews and comparing brands & prices...I settled on the Grabber HTS. Other contenders were the Michelin Cross Terrain and the BF Goodrich Rugged Trail T/A. (the Michelins are pricy and I wasn't quite sold on the BFGs)
I'll visit later when I break em in, but for now...
Initial Reaction:
I was not looking for a snow tire - my main focus was comfort/performance (I like a luxury ride!). These tires feel really good on the road, it's a nice comfortable ride. The dry traction is great and I can't really imagine tires being much more quiet. They feel just a little squishy right now (which is great when pulling into parking lots etc, really smooth) but I suspect they might firm up a bit as the compound acclimates. The steering response feels just slightly more "loose" than the Dunlops, but more than acceptable. They actually remind me of the Michelin LTX M/S I had on a Ford Econoline years ago.
On the highway, these things are a dream. It easily felt like I was going 15-20MPH less than my actual speed. You feel well planted on the road but roll along the highway freely with very little drag. They handle the bumps and lines in the road really well.
I have the white lettering showing and they look real good. I am very happy so far!

...Quiet, smooth as butter on the freeway, and good grip...
I replaced the entirely unacceptable Dunlop Grandtrek AT20's for my FJ Cruiser 4WD. The difference was amazing after driving the first 10 feet out of the tire dealers lot. They are a 180 from the Dunlop's. Quiet, smooth as butter on the freeway, and good grip. I was swayed by readinhg all the reviews expecially on Consumer Reports. It was a tough choice to make over the Michelin's LTX AT2 I origianlly wanted, but the $300.00 savings is what made me buy. I read reviews that say this is even better than the Michelin some drivers wore out before getting these tires.

...With about 15,000 miles on them, they are 2/3 worn until they hit 2/32nds... I'm going to get about 21,000 miles out of these at the rate I'm going (No Burnouts or squealing on turns, but pushing it almost to that point) There are tires that will wear much longer...
4th review of this tire (same set)
With about 15,000 miles on them, they are appx 2/3 worn until they hit 2/32nds. (Can you tell it's all about the wear for me? :) ) Well not ALL mileage.
Aside from snow and offroad, these are good tires. They ride and handle well, great traction, comfortable and good response. I'm going to get about 21,000 miles out of these at the rate I'm going (No Burnouts or squealing on turns, but pushing it almost to that point) There are tires that will wear much longer. As I previously stated The Dunlop Radial Rover would have given me about 26-27,000 miles with this truck, however they rode like a rock.
With the tires worn down 2/3 of their effective legal life, they are not trustworthy in snow, period. I either take my chances with the truck drifting and floating all over (that's scary), drive like an old lady, or replace them.
What else could you expect from an all season highway tire that is 1/2 gone? That's the dilemna I've been through several times already. Good tires until it snows, then I replace them even though they would be good once spring comes.
I found a good used set of factory alloy rims (they look sharp) with Blizzak DM-Z3 snow tires on them for a good deal. I'll get one or more winters out of them, time will tell. Once spring comes I can put these Generals back on and run them until they die. Another 7,500 miles.
I'm not knocking the tire. For what it is, it's a great price with excellent manners/handling and pretty good wear. You can't expect confidence in snow from an all season highway tire that's worn.
Just a dilemna when living in snowy winter areas, not to mention occasional offroading. I'm thinkink about AT's once these generals wear out (end of '10 summer) Now that I have 2 sets of rims and no truck payments I can experiment and have a little fun.
The tire makes all the difference in the world when it comes to snow, FWD, 4WD, or RWD. All 4 snowtires are the bomb.

I just replaced my set of Grabber HTS's, had 67,000 miles on them. Bought another set of same tires. Hope they do as well. I've found that with my Escape keeping the tires balanced and rotated really pays off. Independent supenpension will wear your tires out in a hurry when the least bit out of balance. Best tires I've ever had at any price.
