The Grabber HTS is General Tire's Highway All-Season tire developed for the drivers of crossover and sport utility vehicles, as well as pickup trucks and full-size vans. The Grabber HTS was designed to combine style, comfort, durability and performance in a tire that offers pleasant road manners and a long life, in addition to year-round traction, including in light snow.

The Grabber HTS features General Tire's Eco-Ride tread compound to improve fuel economy molded into a specially engineered symmetric tread design featuring an enlarged contact patch and General Tire's Stabilink system of connecting bars that increase circumferential stability to enhance braking, acceleration and cornering. Response Grooves provide directional guidance for improved steering and Hydro Channels eject water from between the tread and road to increase hydroplaning resistance while three types of sipes promote traction in dry, wet and wintry weather. The tire's internal structure includes twin, ultra-high tensile steel belts to provide brute strength while an internal cushioning system isolates the vehicle from road vibrations for a smoother ride.

*Specific sizes featuring low rolling resistance technology are identified as such on the Sizes tab, as well as on the tire's Specs tab.

Sooner or Later You'll Own Generals - Maybe Now is the Time (04:02)

If you ask people about General tires, many will remember the decades-old slogan "sooner or later you'll own Generals." General recently introduced the Grabber HTS as the newest member of the Grabber family of SUV and pick-up/light truck tires, focusing on all-season traction and ride quality for drivers who never need to venture off paved roads and highways. To gain a better understanding of how well the new General Grabber HTS fits with today's SUVs, we did some comparing. Maybe now is the time.

Customers Say

Owners report excellent dry traction (9-10) and confident wet performance with strong hydroplaning resistance (8-10), aligning well with its highway all-season design. Treadwear receives praise for longevity in most cases (7-10), though a few note rapid wear in severe conditions. Comfort stands out with smooth ride quality (8-10) and minimal road noise. Winter traction earns positive marks (7-10) for light snow handling, though ice grip shows occasional inconsistency (scores as low as 2). Steering responsiveness and stability (8-10) reinforce its highway-focused performance. While most drivers highlight balanced all-season capability, a small subset reports below-average tread life in harsh use-consistent with typical trade-offs for softer-compound all-season tires.

...Snow and wet traction is very good and the truck's handling is very predictable with these tires...

My trucks not my cruiser. I have a nice car for that. This is only the 3rd set of tires I've had on this truck as I bought it used. The Generals are my favorites. The other tires spun at the rear wheels at very mild acceleration from a stop. These haven't. Noise levels are a lot better too. Snow and wet traction is very good and the truck's handling is very predictable with these
tires. I've had Goodyear, Michelin, Yokohama, Hankook and B F Goodriches on various different vehicles. Most of the other brands have not impressed. These General Grabbers have done better than I expected and I am impressed with how they've improve my truck's behavior, handling and comfort. I look at tires this way. If they are good tires, I replace with the same. If they're not, I can't wait to replace them with something else and that's happened more than once with even the "premium" brands. I usually go with the less expensive choice, which these are. I don't want to spend big money to be disappointed. And I'm all the more happy when the less expensive do better than I expected!

...The conditions changing from wet ice in Seattle, light snow, to slightly icy roads at night, over the pass, and the vehicle never felt like it was losing traction or sliding in any way...

This is an update after two seasons of summer to winter driving. These tires are still performing great in the snow and mild ice road conditions. I had confidence driving across HYWY 2 to and from Seattle to Yakama over the Cascade Mountains in zero degree down to -10 weather. The conditions changing from wet ice in Seattle, light snow, to slightly icy roads at night, over the pass, and the vehicle never felt like it was losing traction or sliding in any way. I know it was icy, because leaving Leavenworth Washington, several cars driving slow in-front, spun their tires and slid sidewards before gaining control. I had no traction issues and without using my chains. The weather got so cold I had to add air in the tire because of contraction. The tires had lost 7 to 10 psi. I should have taken up the offer from my Ford Dealer to put nitrogen in the tire for extra cost and it would not have been effected by the cold. Once pumped up to 38-40 psi, they road smooth, quiet and returned 21 highway mpg. The wear on the tires are very even. I have not hit the half way wear markers on the tires with 26,500 miles.

...Biggest step up from previous tires was on traction in wet conditions. I glide through puddles, never spin the tires on wet pavement. I feel very confident and safe with these on the car.

Looked at a bunch of tires and finally decided on this one. Absolutely thrilled with it. Biggest step up from previous tires was on traction in wet conditions. I glide through puddles, never spin the tires on wet pavement. I feel very confident and safe with these on the car.

...Aside from snow and offroad, these are good tires. They ride and handle well, great traction, comfortable and good response...

4th review of this tire (same set)

With about 15,000 miles on them, they are appx 2/3 worn until they hit 2/32nds. (Can you tell it's all about the wear for me? :) ) Well not ALL mileage.

Aside from snow and offroad, these are good tires. They ride and handle well, great traction, comfortable and good response. I'm going to get about 21,000 miles out of these at the rate I'm going (No Burnouts or squealing on turns, but pushing it almost to that point) There are tires that will wear much longer. As I previously stated The Dunlop Radial Rover would have given me about 26-27,000 miles with this truck, however they rode like a rock.

With the tires worn down 2/3 of their effective legal life, they are not trustworthy in snow, period. I either take my chances with the truck drifting and floating all over (that's scary), drive like an old lady, or replace them.

What else could you expect from an all season highway tire that is 1/2 gone? That's the dilemna I've been through several times already. Good tires until it snows, then I replace them even though they would be good once spring comes.

I found a good used set of factory alloy rims (they look sharp) with Blizzak DM-Z3 snow tires on them for a good deal. I'll get one or more winters out of them, time will tell. Once spring comes I can put these Generals back on and run them until they die. Another 7,500 miles.

I'm not knocking the tire. For what it is, it's a great price with excellent manners/handling and pretty good wear. You can't expect confidence in snow from an all season highway tire that's worn.

Just a dilemna when living in snowy winter areas, not to mention occasional offroading. I'm thinkink about AT's once these generals wear out (end of '10 summer) Now that I have 2 sets of rims and no truck payments I can experiment and have a little fun.

The tire makes all the difference in the world when it comes to snow, FWD, 4WD, or RWD. All 4 snowtires are the bomb.

Excellent tire. Could tell a marked difference in the handling as soon as tires were installed. Felt like the SUV had shed 1500 pounds. Immediate, predictable turn in, noticeably less lean, no rolling over the tread shoulder. Wet traction is exceptional, have not hydroplaned yet and have gone through some 2-3" deep puddles at 60MPH. In fact have not lost traction at all in dry or wet conditions. Ice handling is amazing. Wound up on ice for the majority of a 500mi trip @ Christmas Eve and made it through. Speed was sometimes 10-15MPH, but kept moving when some 4WD vehicles were stranded. Loss of traction is gradual and predictable, no snap spins, went into slide once and credit the tires 100% with allowing me to keep it out of the ditch. Was able to catch the spin and stay with it until tires regained traction. These are by far the best tires I have ever had regardless of price. When my Dakota's current tires wear out I am seriously considering purchasing a set of these HTS's for it. These tires outperform every performance tire I have bought for that truck and on a vehicle weighing twice as much. Buying experience through Tire Rack was pleasant as well. Customer service contacted me to double check tire size as I was buying oversize tires for my vehicle. Appreciated that level of commitment to insuring my purchase was what I had intended.

...Great handling, great response, low road noise, and soft ride...

Very satisfied with this incredibly popular tire. Like most people shopping here, I've done my research before choosing this tire. Having never bought the General brand before, I wasn't sure what to expect. Having used these tires over 4 seasons and 20,000 miles, I have to say they're everything they're said to be. Great handling, great response, low road noise, and soft ride. Top performance for an all-season tire at a great price.

...I've put 50,000 miles on this tire over the past two years and will need a replacement before the snow hits...

I am a high mileage commuter in the Northeast, and average 30,000 miles per year of combined highway and city driving. The General Grabber HTS tires were a replacement for the factory Bridgestones, a major improvement in on-road performance. In the past my favorite truck tires were Pirelli Scorpion A/Ts. The General Grabber HTS has been a great tire over the past two years with superb traction in all weather conditions. The only time they let me down was on an icy hill, only chains would have done better. The ride comfort is good, noise levels are very good. I've put 50,000 miles on this tire over the past two years and will need a replacement before the snow hits. I highly recommend this tire.

...Second winter with around 20,000 miles on tires, the traction was mostly gone. Tread passed inspection, but that was about it ( 2/32-3.5/32 tread left)...

Very disappointed in the overall performance of these tires. First winter with fresh tread (under 5000 miles), absolutely no problems whatsoever. Second winter with around 20,000 miles on tires, the traction was mostly gone. Tread passed inspection, but that was about it (2/32-3.5/32 tread left). Regular rotations as well as regular pressure checks. Ride was good, but overall these tires disappointed. I run general tires (Exclaim UHP) on a Spec V and drive that much harder and got about 30,000 miles on those. These would've been 9 or 10s across the board if I got 35,000 miles or better out of them, but 20,000 is just too little for a 4 cylinder pickup for me.
