Sidewall Protection Lugs and Deflection Ribs on the Grabber X3

The Grabber X3 is General's Off-Road Maximum Traction tire developed for the drivers of Jeeps, full-size trucks and SUVs and dedicated off-road vehicles who believe adventure is the respectful pursuit of trouble and need a tire with aggressive off-road performance to get them out of any adventure they may find. It is designed to blend durability and extreme traction capability in dirt, mud and on rock without sacrificing on-road comfort.

The Grabber X3 utilizes a robust off-road tread compound molded into a high void, symmetric pattern featuring block chamfers and traction notches for grip in loose surfaces. Evacuation channels clear mud from the tread, while stone bumpers at the base of the grooves help to release stone and debris. Full-depth sipes improve wet and wintertime traction throughout the tire's life, and the multi-pitch tread block design minimizes the drone of pattern-generated noise to create a more comfortable on-road driving experience.

Internal construction of the Grabber X3 features General's DURAGEN technology, which consists of a three-ply body casing and twin ultra-high strength steel belts for durability off-road and on. Externally, Sidewall Protection Lugs and Deflection Ribs help defend the tire body and upper sidewall area from punctures while traversing harsh terrain.

While Off-Road Maximum Traction tires, which are often called mud tires, are branded with the M+S symbol and able to churn through deep snow, their typical oversize applications and the absence of snow-biting sipes in their large, smooth lugs can challenge their on-road wintertime traction on packed snow and icy surfaces.

Red letter sidewall styling is available in select sizes and is derived from Grabber off-road racing tires and affixed to the tire as a vulcanized label that requires special care and can be damaged by contact with curbs and off-road hazards.

To protect the red lettering, follow these instructions:

  • Do not use gas, alcohol or petroleum based solvents.
  • Do not use direct high-pressure water.
  • Avoid rough brushes or any other abrasive materials.

Red Lettering does age during service and may change slightly in appearance:

  • If hit by debris or curbs, the red lettering may show areas of damage.
  • In the case of noticeable discoloration, the red lettering should be cleaned with special car cleaners designed for rubber and plastics.
  • Apply a small amount of cleaner on soft towel and carefully wipe evenly over the red lettering.

General Reviews

Ratings highlight excellence in dry traction (9-10) and wet performance (8-10), with standout hydroplaning resistance. Winter traction impresses in deep snow (9-10), though ice scores vary (4-9), a noted limitation for an off-road-focused tire. Treadwear earns consistent praise (8-10), aligning with rugged use expectations. Comfort scores (7-10) reflect a trade-off for capability, with some mentioning road noise. Steering responsiveness (8-10) and cornering stability (7-10) reinforce its off-road reliability. Customers emphasize its dominance in intended conditions, with minor critiques on ice and noise outweighed by durability and traction in challenging terrain.

...They're quiet, keep traction in the slickest of environments, and are hands down one of the best looking tires on the market in my opinion...

I bought these back in January for my Jeep. So far they've proven to be the best tire I've ever owned. For driving characteristics you couldn't tell a difference from these and a highway tire. They're quiet, keep traction in the slickest of environments, and are hands down one of the best looking tires on the market in my opinion. This Jeep is my daily driver and my weekend wheeler. These tires serve both purposes insanely well. During the winter I wheeled in upwards of 6 feet of snow and they did great. Aired down to 7 psi on 8 inch wide wheels, never had a bead pop and they air down great. I've only had them for 2,500 miles but it looks like these tires are still brand new. Im expecting to get close to, if not over 50,000 miles on these tires. I like them enough that I'll put these on my K10 as well. It appears that you really can't go wrong buying General tires.

I have nothing but good to say about these tires.
I was impressed with the wet traction these things get , I haven't had them off road much, but the little I have had them off road they worked great. They are a little loud on the highway but not terrible. They can get through any snow that mother nature can throw at them. I've put a little over 16,000 miles on them and don't see any visible wear.
I will definitely buy these again.

I have never felt so secure and confident in a tire's ability to get me through snow/over ice. I do not have any added weight in the truck for traction. I drive very aggressively and have never had these tires lose traction due to acceleration, braking, or cornering...

I put these tires on my truck for a snow tire, after reading the reviews and my dad recommending them to me (he plows and has bought three sets of these tires, after comparing them to others he has bought for plowing). I love these tires! I have never felt so secure and confident in a tire's ability to get me through snow/over ice. I do not have any added weight in the truck for traction. I drive very aggressively and have never had these tires lose traction due to acceleration, braking, or cornering. Additionally, they really aren't any more noisy than the A/Ts I had on the truck before, which were probably at about 2/32 tread depth (if even that much) when I put these on. The last point I want to make is that these tires have shown no signs of wear, except for losing the colored lines along the tread that tires have when they are brand new. I cannot recommend these tires highly enough, and as long as these tires remain in production, I will rely on them for my winter/snow tires.

This tire by far outperforms all the other popular tires that I've used. Wheeling in the snow up the mountain my truck had significantly more traction then all the others. They also handle the sand/rock hills really well. Great tire. Looks awesome on the truck too

...Dry traction is great...

Have had these tires on for just under a year on a JK Rubicon that hardly gets driven. Dry traction is great. Snow traction on un-plowed roads is good. Wet traction is as good or better than any other 35 inch mud tire. Traction in rocks and loose dirt (Crawlorado style) is amazing. While on some difficult rock trails recently, we never spun a tire until it came off the ground. Very impressive tire. Better than the Duratrac, which everyone around here seems to run.

...Needless to say these are not good at all for on road use... If you plan on doing any highway driving other than to the trails and back - pick something else!...

Bought these tires in March of 2017 to put on my 13' RAM 2500 W/ Lorenz FOX 2.0 IPF Suspension - I don't drive the vehicle much so It was a couple of months before I went on a long road trip with the new setup. After that trip I have had them re balanced a few times with out any major improvement. Fast forward to July of 2017 -- Continental owns Grabber and they are not interested in taking them back (past the 30 day warranty) so they will get my money and an honest review. Needless to say these are not good at all for on road use, I've already ordered some replacements for the truck and I'll use these as an excuse to buy an old off road only jeep. If you plan on doing any highway driving other than to the trails and back - pick something else! They are very noisy, I expected some noise based on video reviews however not to the level I hear. One or more tires are out of round (per tire shop). They generate a lot of heat after a 30 min. ride - I'll do a full video review with all the actual numbers in a few weeks. From the little driving I have done 1500 or so miles I already notice some tread depth loss. Who knows how long they would last on the road, I'm certainly not willing to wreck my vehicles suspension trying to find out.

...Also these tires handle exceptionally, when these got put on I could tell a difference immediately and it felt like a brand new jeep the way it handled. I've gotten it up to 90mph and there is no shake from 0-90mph...

I used to run 33" Mickey Thompson baja MTZ and upgraded to 35" General Tire Grabber X3 and I have nothing negative to say about these tires, they are amazing. These are significantly more quiet than my smaller MTZ's and handle better. I drove them all around the mountains in North Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia. I even took them on a 45 minute dirt and gravel trail through the mountains and they performed exceptionally. I was very concerned about tire noise as not many reviews are out on these, but they are sooo quiet for a mud terrain. With my MTZ's on the highway I wouldn't be able to make phone calls because I couldn't hear(soft top) with the combination of wind and tire noise. Now with my X3's I can easily hear when making phone calls on the road because of the significantly quieter tire noise. Also these tires handle exceptionally, when these got put on I could tell a difference immediately and it felt like a brand new jeep the way it handled. I've gotten it up to 90mph and there is no shake from 0-90mph. Yes they are heavy for jeep tires and it did lower my MPG but you don't buy a jeep put 35's and a 3 inch lift on for the MPG. I can't tell any visible tread wear yet but I would buy these tires again if my jeep lasts that long.

These tires are stiff!... On the Jeep they do make it a very harsh ride but if you want a 35" that is what you get...

These tires are stiff! But they look great on the Jeep JKU Rubi Hard Rock. As with any mud / off road tire, they are average at best on the road, wet, and packed snow. Off road they are fantastic. I and the kids have pulled countless Jeeps and pickups out of the dirt, mud, and snow. They throw anything they touch out and up so expect dirt or road salt all over the vehicle (roof too). On the Jeep they do make it a very harsh ride but if you want a 35" that is what you get. The look and the performance off road is great.

The tread wear is AMAZING, I still have well over 1/2" depth left with somewhere in the 40,000 miles of use (85% of that is highway and side streets). That may be due to the weight of the Jeep JKU is not much. I have the Kelly TSR Safari's on my Ram 1500 and they are excellent tires off road but nearly bald after 26,000 miles. I do like the Kellys but the tread-life is a concern comparing to my Grabbers.

More comfortable ride thought. So if you want looks, off road performance, CRAZY durability you cannot go wrong with Grabber X3's.
