The Aklimate is Falken's Grand Touring All-Season tire developed for the drivers of coupes, sedans, minivans, crossovers, and SUVs looking for confident performance in any season. The Aklimate features a specially developed all-season compound molded into an asymmetric tread pattern to provide optimal traction in a myriad of conditions. Large shoulder blocks generate sure-footed dry cornering, with lateral notches to evacuate water when the situation calls for dynamic handling. Four wide circumferential grooves provide hydroplaning resistance in conjunction with the generous siping. 3D Canyon Groove Technology provides enhanced grip in slush and snow.
Internal construction of the Aklimate features a single-ply polyester casting supporting two steel belts. A polyamide reinforcement is added for enhanced high-speed stability and performance.
Note: While non-winter tires featuring the three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) symbol may provide additional longitudinal snow traction beyond what all-season (M+S) tires not bearing the symbol can deliver, they do not match the capability of a true winter tire in all adverse weather conditions.

I've owned Michelin, General, Dunlap, Telstar, Kumho, Kelly, Bridgestone, Goodrich, Hankook, and Firestone tires in all my years of driving. These are the first Goodyears that I've ever purchased. Until I bought these, I thought the Firestones which I had 20 years ago were the best, but these blow them away. Went about $50 over my budget, but worth it. I haven't had tires this good in the snow since those Firestones. I live in a hilly neighborhood. One snow storm, I had to go out of my way because of a fallen tree. I didn't realize that I went down and back up a steep hill in Drive, until I was about to turn onto a side street and wanted to shift down from 2nd to 1st. Imagine my surprise when I discovered I did that whole thing in normal gear. These are really good wet pavement, but soaking wet, where there's pooling of the water, and these tires are just as vulnerable to slipping and sliding as any other. As for ice, it's ice. Not much any tire, even these, can do in those conditions. I did see that some people complained about the treadlife. I think that treadlife is predicated on driving styles. I'm really hard on my tires, I've never gotten the full life span of any tires that I've bought. So unless there's collusion among tire manufacturers, I going to say that it's my fault that my tires don't last. I'm definitely going to buy these same tires for my other car when the time comes to replace the Hankooks that I currently have.

...I live in Oregon where we don't get a lot of snow & ice, but enough to make driving hazardous at times. I work for a utility, so I HAVE to get to work during these conditions. Couldn't ask for better tire to get me through the early morning ice in the hills outside Portland in the winter.

Purchase these tires specifically because of the mileage warranty of seventy thousand miles, these are my third set of Goodyear Assurance tires on two different automobiles. Quality and warranty are important for my tires, because I treasure my family and my own safety I want to be able to depend on the tires. With the high prices of tires today and what seems like tons of different brands, it is way too easy for a person to purchase cheap and unreliable tires from lets say bad dealers. Besides a good brand name, purchase your tires from a local tire dealers, one you know has been around for a while, and if connected to a branch of dealers the better, if you travel. You can always purchase tires from the Tire Rack and have a local dealer place them on your vehicle and save some serious cash, anyway I have been extremely pleased with these Assurance Tires from Goodyear, the tread is holding and the contact with the road is great, besides they look good on my car. I highly recommend these tires, even if they are expensive, one of the most important thing to remember is to rotate the tires every six thousand miles, they will last longer, and make sure you wash the tires once in a while. I bought four tires of Assurance for just about five hundred dollars, balanced and with a life time rotation, and bought a set just a little wider so it looks cool on my Sebring. Stopping , steering, and snow is no problem in Michigan.

On a serious note, these tires are unequivocally the worst tires that I have ever driven on in my entire life. It really boggles my mind as to how new tires can be so bad in every aspect. I needed a new set of tires after my General Altimaxes got to about 70K and had the belts exposed. Those old tires in that bad of condition were truly better than these new Goodyears. I really wish that I didn't waste my money.
TRACTION: There is none. My car had 130HP 13 years ago when it was new and did about a 9 second 0-60. Definitely not going to break the tires loose. I drive extremely conservatively and have never had it spin the tires when launching, but now I can rarely leave a light without looking like an idiot. In dry conditions they only slightly make due. I still would not recommend merging into traffic going faster than 30mph. If you are in wet conditions then just embrace how terrible the traction is and enjoy spinning the wheels and sliding around. I truly feel unsafe in low speed city driving.
NOISE: There is a whole lot of noise on these babies. For awhile, I was wondering why the insulation in my vehicle was breaking down so rapidly. Then I realized it was the tires. I hope you don't ever want to make a phone call, listen to the radio, or talk to a passenger again.
TREAD: Who cares?? These tires are so extraordinarily bad right out of the box. Maybe they will be better with 50K on them? Who knows? Obviously not us people who got scammed into buying these pitiful excuses for tires.
There is no reason that these tires should ever exist. Please don't buy them. I wish that I had looked more into reviews before I purchased these. Don't make the same mistake that I did.

I upgraded these tires from the cheap tires that had worn out on the car. There is a drastic difference between the cheap tires and brand new tires, so it may have colored my review. These tires perform much better in wet conditions than I expected, especially under hard breaking on the freeway from 55 to 20. I did notice that they tend to lose grip easily in wet conditions 30+ MPH. Dry conditions however they feel quite sticky especially on a hot day when the compound is warmed up. In Los Angeles we don't have very much ice or snow so I can't be of much help on that front.
As far as the aesthetic of the tire I think they're one of the best looking tread patterns for an A to B vehicle. The tread pattern is a symmetrical 4 block pattern on the shoulder with 4 wide grooves dividing the tire down the middle. It looks like it would be exceptionally grippy in snowy weather and take a good bite out of the snow. The Assurance line is above par for sure, but at the size I'm running lacks the cornering that I'd like to get in wet conditions.
Overall if these tires are on sale I would jump all over them, but full freight might be too steep a price for the majority of people.

I have been extremely satisfied with these tires. Although from others that have them on a minivan, the treadwear has not been good. For me at roughly 12000 miles a year they have been great. Good handling and ride comfort.

My wife has these tires on our Subaru Outback, it's our "family car". We are now nearly down to the wear-bars, and I am noticing that the braking performance has substantially dropped. Our other car is my 2009 Civic Si Sedan, and we use that in the Spring/Summer when it doesn't rain much because the wife doesn't like how low to the ground the Civic is when it's raining. Ironically, the Civic has far better tires performance and safety-wise; it has Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+, and man those really nice tires. Anyways, regarding these Goodyear's - Not a fan! My wife and her sisters are Subaru fans, and I think that the put too much confidence in the AWD. I mean, how good is the AWD system going to be if you have poor tires? Yes, these tires are comfy and quiet. But if Subarus are supposed to enable you to traverse different terrains such as dirt, snow, wet, and such; shouldn't the tires complement or enable the cart do so? These aren't the tires you are looking for. *force hand motion*

These are the OEM tires that came on the car when purchased new. I'm a sales rep and drive 30K+ miles per year and it's 95% highway driving. I rotate the tires about every 10,000 miles. The good: I currently have almost 107,000 miles on the tires and they still (barely) pass inspection. I've never gotten this kind of mileage on any tire and Im amazed how they've worn like iron. The bad:. These tires ride like iron... They're noisy, harsh on bumps, have terrible on center feel, are marginal in snow and rain, and they don't handle very well. For highway driving their OK, but aren't very capable in the curves. This isn't surprising for a hard compound, long lasting, wear resistant rubber.
I just ordered new tires and no, I'm not getting the same tires, but that's a review for another day.

i then bought 2 new from tire rack to mount and use only on the rear and that i rotate only on the rear axle ,, and rotate the 3 original tires on the front end only... to max my wear on each tires now ..
i been buying tires from tirerack for years to decades and always gotten fresh recent manufactured tires and i have always been able to use over 60k miles to 80k miles because of my easy driving ..
but you also need to understand as you wear tires down it will degrade in wet conditions .. it is so obvious .. but you then drive with even more extra caution in those situation the more you wear down .. but then your dry response will get better .. so obvious too .. i don't drive my car in snow ,, but essentially the snow situation will be changing too when tires are new to being worn for performance handling .. i however will drive my 4wd pu in snow .. if i did not have my pu ,, i would buy snow tires for winter ,, i do not trust any all season tire in any snow situation less than 4" or more than 4
