The Give and Take of All-Season Tires (06:06)
Firestone's newest, the Champion Fuel Fighter, joins some very popular tires in the touring all-season category. And with all-season tires, there's a lot of give and take when it comes to design and engineering before you get a tire that's good in all seasons.
Has Firestone delivered a lot of give with very little take? Let's find out.
Ratings highlight excellence in dry traction (8-10) and comfort, with many praising the smooth, quiet ride. Treadwear receives strong praise from most (7-10), though a few report premature wear. Wet traction earns solid marks (7-10) for reliable grip, though some note occasional hydroplaning. Winter traction shows clear limitations, with scores dipping to 0-5 in icy conditions and mixed results in light snow. As a touring all-season tire, it excels in everyday comfort and dry/wet performance, but customers seeking consistent winter capability may find it falls short. Overall satisfaction leans positive, with many valuing its balanced handling and refinement for standard driving needs.

I am actually quite surprised by these tires. They came as the OEM fitting on my 2023 Mazda CX-50 and I had low hopes for them given that most OEM fitted tires are pretty horrible in general. So far though they have been quiet, comfortable, handle rain like it isn’t even there, and take corners when pushed hard with no fuss. I have owned many cars in the last decade and have promptly swapped out for better tires most of the time. I don’t expect these tires to have great tread life but I’m happy that I don’t feel the need to replace them until they are actually worn down.

...In dry weather conditions the tires are great, low road noise, no vibration, responds predictably and corners well...
Good dry weather tire. Otherwise not for mixed conditions. As soon as the road gets wet its like driving on ice not just understeer but4 wheel slip even at low speeds. Dry weather conditions the tires are great, low road noise, no vibration, responds predictably and corners well. If you live in the southwest great tire anywhere else cannot personally recommend under any circumstances.

Not a bad tire. Goodyear all-seasons tend to rate low on wet traction on Tire Rack test results, and its hard for me to tell if this is the case or not here. It probably is not very good in the wet, assuming Goodyear uses the same or similar tread compounds as all their other all-season tires. Dry traction is adequate. Snow/ice is OK. This '19 Tiguan came with them originally, and I'll probably upgrade to something that tests better with Tire Rack professional results, such as upgrading to the excellent "Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season Plus II" in a slightly bigger size (fender wells look like they can handle it well), going from OE 215/65-17 to 225/65-17.

...if your concern is quietness and comfort in dry traction, this tire is so good at that, I'm even considering buying an identical set once mine wear down and this is coming from a die hard Michelin fan...
OEM tire on the 2024 Lexus TX350. Not a fan of Goodyear, but this tire has me rethinking... it's incredibly quiet (the quietest tire I've ever owned even quieter than Michelin Primacy), very comfortable yet doesn't have a wobbly sidewall, absorbs impacts very well and road cracks. At 8500 miles, it seems to have worn off about 20-30% so thread life isn't the best, but if your concern is quietness and comfort in dry traction, this tire is so good at that, I'm even considering buying an identical set once mine wear down and this is coming from a die hard Michelin fan. Wet traction is good, no complains, no slips. Haven't tried it on ice.

...Performance in light snow (<3")and ice is poor. Performance in heavier snow is somewhat better but not much...
OEM tires on new to me 2023 VW Atlas CrossSport (13k at purchase). These start with only 10/32 tread depth and at 14k was 9/32, 9/32, 8/32 and 8/32. Not a great tire overall; fair at best. So far the wear is higher than I would expect. Performance in light snow (<3") and ice is poor. Performance in heavier snow is somewhat better but not much. Going to be getting new tires before next winter and hopefully sell these to get something out of them to help pay for new tires.

The winter has really shown how much these tires lack in performance. Light snow, slick conditions they slide especially in turns no matter how slow I turn. Any kind of slush or accumulation on the road you need to slow down way before you approach anything.
The Goodyear Assurance Finesse came OE on my 2021 Volkswagen Atlas 4Motion. They handle okay in dry conditions. Not the quietest tire. They do tend to sing a little bit especially on the highway. They spin a bit in wet conditions and if it rains heavier I feel them slip in turns. The winter has really shown how much these tires lack in performance. Light slow, slick conditions they slide especially in turns no matter how slow I turn. Any kind of slush or accumulation on the road you need to slow down way before you approach anything. The snow packs in the tread so quickly I might as well be driving on street slicks.
I just got the truck in October 2020 and am already considering taking them off. I would never recommend this tire. I love the truck but if you're looking at one, I'd definitely ask the dealership if they can switch the tires as part of the purchase especially if you live anywhere that gets any type of snow. Very disappointed in this tire.
