The Assurance featuring Fuel Max Technology is Goodyear's mid-tier Passenger All-Season tire designed for the drivers of cars, coupes, vans and crossover vehicles looking for affordably priced tires offering long wear, wet traction and low rolling resistance as some of their top priorities. The Assurance Fuel Max is designed to provide year-round confidence in wet, dry and wintry weather conditions, including in light snow, as well as offers lower rolling resistance to enhance vehicle fuel economy over the tire's lifetime.
The Assurance Fuel Max molds a low rolling resistance all-season compound into a tread design featuring distinct zones. Inboard and outboard Dry Tread Zones feature strong shoulder blocks to enhance handling in dry conditions, while a central Wet Tread Zone features Dual Aquachannel grooves that evacuate water to promote traction in wet weather. A virtually continuous notched center rib combined with circumferential shoulder grooves blend dry road stability and even treadwear with traction in snowy conditions. The tire's internal structure features twin steel belts (H-speed rated sizes are reinforced with spirally wrapped nylon belt edge strips) on top of a polyester casing that enhances ride quality.
*Specific sizes featuring Fuel Max Technology are identified as such on the Sizes tab, as well as on the tire's Specs tab.

Eco-Focused All-Season Tires: Do They Deliver on the Promise? (03:22)
Tires with an emphasis on low rolling resistance for fuel efficiency are becoming available in sizes to fit a wide variety of mainstream vehicles. One of the most recent is Bridgestone's Ecopia EP422 that employs technologies aimed at reducing fuel consumption and the tire's impact on the environment. But does it perform on the road, too?
Feedback consistently shows the Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max delivers strong tread life, with many ratings in the 8-10 range, making it a reliable choice for everyday driving. Ride comfort earns praise for smoothness, though some note occasional road noise. Winter traction sees mixed results, with scores often dipping to 3-6 in icy conditions, suggesting limited confidence in severe winter weather. Wet traction performs well, with hydroplaning resistance frequently rated 7-10, while dry traction maintains solid 7-9 scores for confident handling. As a standard touring all-season tire, it balances everyday usability with dependable dry and wet performance, though drivers in snowy climates may want added winter capability.

...Wet and light snow performance has been very good even with more miles on the tires...
These tires came on my Honda as orginal equipment. Throughout their life they have performed as expected and I've had no issues with them at all. Cumulative fuel economy is 37.6 mpg with a 2.4L engine. I am not disappointed but cannot say if the tires contributed to this result. Wet and light snow performance has been very good even with more miles on the tires. I currently have 5/32 tread depth on them going into another winter season. I may replace them before the snow starts flying. No complaints with tire noise as others have mentioned. I would consider purchasing them again but will probably give Michelin a try.

...Wet grip is the best of any tire that I have experienced... Last Spring we had over 3 months of almost daily rains and flooding...
OEM Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max wears incredibly well. At 35,000 I still have well over 1/2 tread remaining and near same performance as new. Wet grip is the best of any tire that I have experienced. Certain pavement patterns can get the tires to sing, but it isn't a common occurrence. I live in Michigan and the weather can be quite extreme in all seasons. Winter can be viscous, Last Spring we had over 3 months of almost daily rains and flooding. Three out of four seasons these tires are top tier. Winter over challenges these Goodyears. This tire is probably the worst performing cold weather tire that I have ever owned. Light snow is tough to navigate. Packed snow...if you have a slight incline, you can forget about getting any motion from a dead stop.
I do like these tires a lot. I just think that Winter conditions the Goodyear engineers forgot to include in the tread design. I would buy these tires again if I had another set of tires dedicated to Winter months.

I have found these do very well in rain and snow...
I bought these to replace Yokohama's, they were horrible. I have read these reviews and am surprised, these are quieter Than the tires they replaced. I picked up 1 to 2 miles in the city and 4 miles on the road. I'm a retired police officer and Am very safety conscious. I have found these do very well in rain and snow. I observed most complaints were from Small foreign auto's, but on my van they do great and still look new after 25000 miles.

...So, while these tires do have a lot of dry grip, the swaying sensation and floating feeling takes away all confidence in driving the car hard...
These were the OEM tires on my 2010 Prius. I appreciate their long life and even wear. However, like other customers reported, they became very noisy after just 40,000 or so. I replaced them with the new Continental PureContact EcoPlus tires. Huge decrease in noise! In terms of handling/traction, I would rate them as "average" - not scary nor dangerous, but not great, either.

...In dry weather the tires grip very well as I tend to zip around the mountain road curves around 70 mph...
I have over 120,000 miles on the original set of these tires. Tread wear is amazing . I drive mostly highway , but have some congested city driving and mountain canyons daily also. In dry weather the tires grip very well as I tend to zip around the mountain road curves around 70 mph. I have no complaints about these tires they have served me well.

...I've used these Goodyear FuelMax tires for 6,000 and actually have gained 3 miles per gallon in highway driving, but they do slide around corners in the rain...
I used Goodyear Aquatreads and Goodyear Tripletreads for the first 185,000 miles on my 1999 Honda Odyssey with 100% confidence in all areas. I've used these Goodyear FuelMax tires for 6,000 and actually have gained 3 miles per gallon in highway driving, but they do slide around corners in the rain. I wish I would have stayed with the Tripletreads.

...The ride is still a bit harsh over certain types of bumps, but I am not used to 55 series sidewalls. I am used to a more comfortable ride that a 65 series tire gives...oh well...
First long, mostly highway trip! Again, I drive for maximum fuel economy (safely) so when I averaged 34.8 miles per gallon, I can say these LRR tires perform as advertised! Also, they are very quiet, even when the tire pressure is increased a bit. The ride is still a bit harsh over certain types of bumps, but I am not used to 55 series sidewalls. I am used to a more comfortable ride that a 65 series tire gives....oh well. I can't really comment on cornering/braking because of my driving style. I can say that my straight line tracking is just that, no pulling, no effort to maintain a straight line!I think the ride will improve once the air and road temperature warms up! Bill

...The noise factor is horrible and has been consistent since the tires were new. However, I get above average gas mileage and the tires are quite comfortable...
These were on my Chrysler 200 Limited Platinum 4 cylinder when purchased new in 2017. Overall they are a good tire. They are at 4/32 at 40,631, rotated regularly, which is the best mileage I've ever gotten out of a tire. I've done a lot of driving the past couple years which was 90% highway, long trips. The noise factor is horrible and has been consistent since the tires were new. However, I get above average gas mileage and the tires are quite comfortable. The car is rated at 36 MPG highway and I average 40 MPG, North/South and East/West interstates. They are good in rain and light snow. The car is pretty light, so you can't put everything on the tires. I won't purchase these again simply because of the noise factor but otherwise I would.

...The tires are quiet and comfortable. The handling response is ok, a bit soft, but ok for a family vehicle...
These tires are on a 2006 Toyota Highlander Hybrid. Soon after these tires were installed we went on a family vacation. The tires are quiet and comfortable. The handling response is ok, a bit soft, but ok for a family vehicle. We ran into some torrential rain and they were very confident in the rain. If you are looking for a good family tire that will give better gas mileage these may be for you. For aggressive or high performance driving look elsewhere.

...The tires have some tread left after 10 years and 65000 miles, however there is some sidewall cracking which led us to replace these before absolutely required. Can't complain about 65,000 miles...
These were the original tires on our Prius C. We bought the car used with 20k miles on it, and have since put another 45k miles on it. The tires have some tread left after 10 years and 65000 miles, however there is some sidewall cracking which led us to replace these before absolutely required.
Can't complain about 65,000 miles, and we are considering buying these again, or the Michelin Energy Saver -- for the use a Prius sees, both seem like great tires.

...My Goodyearese tires... They're a great quiet highway tire, but can't handle anything else. Dealer will come up with every excuse in the book why the tires didn't hold up...
I drive about 30,000 miles a year, mostly for work, lots of highway miles. Came time to replace my original Michelins at 65,000 miles...they were OK but I didn't like the noise. My Goodyear store guy sold me on these with the gas mileage increase I'd get (yes, I do get about 1 mpg better with these--varies with temperature) and "assured" me (no pun intended) that they would be quieter than my Michelins.
Well holy cats, these Assurance CS tires are the noisiest tires I have EVER driven on. They were OK at the beginning, but after about 2,000 miles, I went back to the place that sold them to me and my guy told me they never had noise complaints on these (even though they were a new product just coming out for crossovers from the passenger car models Goodyear had had out previously). At 40,000 miles, I can hardly talk on the phone in my car without yelling--can't talk to my husband or kid without yelling if we're anywhere above 50 mph. Good riding tire, but I would never, ever, ever buy these tires again as the noise level is astronomically high. Can't wait to get rid of them--fortunately, I have only about 30,000 miles to go before I can dump these tires.

...Winter traction with these tires is marginal at best and not good enough to be trusted with your wife and grandkids driving alone...
I've been a Goodyear tire fan for many years. I have purchased four sets of them in the last three years, two each for my Buick and the wife's Ford van. The tripple treads are great performance tires and would be great for the driver who wears tires out in twenty thousand miles or less. After that mileage they are junk no matter how much tread is left! I exchanged them for the fuel max tires on both vehicles. They are nice riding tires and so quiet my wife almost got a speeding ticket by not realizing how fast she was going. Handling is fair, not nearly so possitive as the tripple treads were. If you drive on gravel roads at all DO NOT get these tires! The wear factor is through the roof plus the rubber compound is such that any little sharp object or stone will work it's way through the tread until you get a leak. If you get these tires, have your dealer fill them with anti-leak jell because you will need it sooner or later. There tread carcass area seems very thin on these tires. That is probably what makes them ride smooth and flex better for less rolling resistance. My wife's van has fifeteen thousand miles on the tires and they will need replacement before winter comes. Winter traction with these tires is marginal at best and not good enough to be trusted with your wife and grandkids driving alone. These tire lessons have soured me on Goodyears. Loyalty only goes so far! Buy with caution and low expectations.

...Forget any type of icy or light snow condition - they were absolutely useless...
I purchased these tires to run most of the year. I liked the fact that they offered nearly zero road noise and they did improve the fuel mileage on my Maxima. Wet traction is absolutely awful. They would hydroplane in light rain and in heavy rain you had to slow down 30 MPH and avoid any puddle or the car would shoot out from under you. Forget any type of icy or light snow condition - they were absolutely useless. Another thing, they are FuelMax but absolutely not wearmax. 25,000 miles and they are shot - no tread left. I kept the pressure at manufacturer's spec and rotated every 5,000 miles - all the right things. I will never purchase this tire again.

Eco-Focused All-Season Tires: Do They Deliver on the Promise? - Winter Update (01:54)
Many passenger and touring all-season tires with an emphasis on low rolling resistance offer very good fuel economy. But the question is, how well do they perform in everyday conditions? Especially in the snow and on the ice. We found out in Sweden when we did some winter testing on these tires.
Eco-Friendly All-Season Tires - How Does Performance Measure Up? (03:56)
Eco-focused tires were initially made in sizes for drivers of hybrid and ultra-efficient vehicles. Today, a growing number are available in a wider variety of sizes in an effort to gain widespread use on more vehicles.
Our tests results show what impact these tires have on fuel economy and how they perform in everyday conditions.
When Round and Black Becomes Lean and Green (04:18)
Can eco-friendly, low rolling resistance tires make a difference in fuel economy, driving costs and the environment?
Tire Rack arranged to get a small fleet of the 2009 2nd generation Toyota Prius hybrids to test low rolling resistance tires. The Goodyear Integrity O.E. tire was the baseline we compared to other tire choices for the Prius. Tires tested included eco-friendly aftermarket tires for hybrid and fuel-efficient compact cars as well as the Goodyear Assurance ComforTred which prioritizes ride comfort and long wear over fuel efficiency.
