The Ventus R-S4 (Z232) is Hankook's Extreme Performance Summer tire developed for the drivers of sports cars, sports coupes and performance sedans looking for near-motorsports levels of grip for track events, autocross and drifting in a tire that can be driven on the street. Like all summer tires, the Ventus R-S4 is not intended to be serviced, stored nor driven in near- and below-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.

Hankook Ventus R-S4The Ventus R-S4 utilizes a new, carbon black and silica high-grip compound molded into a low-void, directional pattern. The wide, continuous center rib creates uninterrupted contact with the road for solid on-center feel and immediate response to steering inputs. Massive outboard shoulder blocks deliver the lateral grip expected for high-g cornering in motorsports events and performance driving, while the chamfered block edges maximize contact with the pavement under load. Wet traction has been addressed through the addition of highly dispersible silica. A functionalized polymer allows the silica to better bond within the compound matrix, while the two main, circumferential grooves allow water to flow through the contact patch for improved resistance to hydroplaning. Heavy rain and standing water may still present challenges to longitudinal and lateral hydroplaning resistance, so drivers should take care and drive cautiously at reduced speeds in these conditions.

The Ventus R-S4's performance begins on the inside. High-modulus bead filler and sidewall reinforcement material reduce sidewall flex for more immediate handling response. A two-ply casing sits beneath two wide, steel belts that support the tread. A two-layer (single layer in some sizes), jointless nylon cover is tuned to optimize handling and stabilize the tread for long life, and an extra reinforcement in the shoulder helps withstand the abuse of performance driving, even in high-camber situations.

Note: Tires exposed to temperatures of 20 degrees F (-7 degrees C) or lower must be permitted to gradually return to temperatures of at least 40 degrees F (5 degrees C) for at least 24 hours before they are flexed in any manner, such as by adjusting inflation pressures, mounting them on wheels, or using them to support, roll or drive a vehicle.

Flexing of the specialized rubber compounds used in Extreme Performance Summer tires during cold-weather use can result in irreversible compound cracking. While compound cracking is not a warrantable condition because it occurs as the result of improper use or storage, tires exhibiting compound cracking must be replaced.

Hankook Ventus R-S4 Reviews

Customers say the Hankook Ventus R-S4 delivers excellent dry traction with consistent grip and predictable handling, making it a top choice for track days, autocross, and endurance racing. Wet performance earns praise for decent grip in light rain, though some note reduced confidence in standing water. Treadwear stands out as exceptional, with many users reporting lasting through multiple heat cycles and extended track use while maintaining performance. While not the absolute stickiest in its class, the tire's durability and balanced dry/wet capabilities make it a favorite among performance drivers prioritizing longevity.

...My last track day was one where we got the first session in the dry, then it started raining for the rest of the day. I was amazed that I could go almost as fast in the wet as in the dry. Only had a small slide once in the wet...

These tires have been an awesome addition to my car. The soft rubber creates a much smoother ride on my commute to/from work. They are much more compliant than the tires I previously had.

As for track handling, I've put one track day on them but was super impressed with their grip both wet and dry. My last track day was one where we got the first session in the dry, then it started raining for the rest of the day. I was amazed that I could go almost as fast in the wet as in the dry. Only had a small slide once in the wet. Prodigious grip all day long. Zero to no fade once they quickly heated up. Pushed them hard in the corners and brake zones and could put the car where I wanted all day long. I would definitely purchase them again.

Excellent tires. Very happy with my purchase and will definitely purchase them again. Grip excellently in the dry and you can feel them start to go, though they don't make much noise at all to warn you, you have to feel it. In the wet, these tires still do pretty good for what they are. You still get good grip and the grooves in the tires do fairly well to prevent hydroplaning. Overall very good daily driver/autocross tire.

Surprised & impressed with treadwear and traction limits. Even more surprised at how functional this tire is in the wet. For an Extreme Performance tire, it channels average rain conditions very well, but due to the tread pattern, be cautious of puddles and flash flooding. They will induce hydroplaning at excessive speeds.

Suprisingly sticky, especially in a lightweight, lowered car with a dialed-in coilover suspension that I drive hard in all conditions, this tire is the poor man's Michelin PCS imho. I'm a Yokohama Advan fan, and this reminds of the A046 in dry conditions. As long you're not under WOT in a wet corner, this tire handles rain very well.

Huge improvement with deceleration traction & braking distance over my old tires (also less pedal pressure required), especially cornering speeds on my benchmark backroads. It's hard to bark 3rd gear now, and if it's really warm & sunny, even 1st-2nd VTEC redline shifts want to hook and check out. Car is far from stock, and this is the first time I have been able to utlilize the full potential of mechanical grip.

Rotated once due to suspension and braking stress on the fronts. Even wear all around, and the compound still has the same traction now as it did on day 1. Compared to the price of Michelin PCS sets, I'll definitely be buying another set of these.

I no longer do autocross, but these tires are ideal for the guys who spank their daily and then run it in autocross events on weekends. Excellent value.

I have pushed these tires to the absolute limit of adhesion and roadforce, and they just stick. Every time. One time in Mexico, I darted across 3 lanes at 125mph, zero body roll and not even a squeal. Just pure bite. The traction is so excellent, that on a dialed-in car like mine, it really does work in unison with my suspension and seems to provide extra oversteer when I need it. Grip for days.

Customers scoring 9s and 10s praise the RS4's outstanding dry grip and track-ready consistency, with many highlighting its "prodigious" cornering stability and predictable breakaway. Endurance racers note exceptional wear through multiple heat cycles, while autocrossers appreciate communicative handling. Though slightly behind top-tier 200TW tires in ultimate stickiness, its durability and value make it a favorite for high-performance driving.

...Well, not quite as grippy as the Bridgestone's, I was very pleasantly surprised...

These are my track tires that go in when I arrive at the track and come off when I drive home. I transitioned away from the Bridgestone Penza RE-71 RS because I was burning through them at an alarming rate. I had these tires heat cycled, which is the first time I’ve done that. Well, not quite as grippy as the Bridgestone‘s, I was very pleasantly surprised. I look forward to seeing how many weekends I can get out of these, which was my whole point for switching.

...Straight line grip is excellent as well, in both acceleration and deceleration. These tires are very communicative, making handling at the limit easy to manage. You can really feel the tires working in the corners and they respond well to smooth mid corner adjustments...

Car is a 3200# (with driver), 290whp E36M3. Having driven numerous high performance tires on this car over the past 5 years I can say these are hands down the best, knocking the RS3 v.1 off it's perch for me. As usual with the RS series of tire, the wear is excellent. I have had 3 autocrosses, 1 track day, a handful of canyon runs, and about 5k regular miles and have well over half tread left. Lateral grip is on par with or better than RS3 v1 while also having a stiffer sidewall for crisp turn in. Straight line grip is excellent as well, in both acceleration and deceleration. These tires are very communicative, making handling at the limit easy to manage. You can really feel the tires working in the corners and they respond well to smooth mid corner adjustments. They make little to no noise in cruising or at the limit in my experience, more of a scrub sound than anything. As with the RS3 v1, these are very heat resistant and difficult to grease out, but they are much easier to get up to & maintain the proper temp.

My only negative comment would be that they do seem somewhat sensitive to tire pressures. A change of 2 psi caused a dramatic difference in the feel of the car on subsequent runs. Not necessarily slower, but different. This may cause you to constantly tweak pressures to find your style.

...not as sticky as some other 200 treadwear tires but it lasts so long, if you want to track and know you will be a little slower knowing they last 3 times longer than the R71 or other sticker tires, I would highly recommend.

I use for Hpde and very little street driving, such a great tire , not as sticky as some other 200 treadwear tires but it lasts so long, if you want to track and know you will be a little slower knowing they last 3 times longer than the R71 or other sticker tires, I would highly recommend.
