The Ecsta PS91 is Kumho's Max Performance Summer tire developed for the drivers of performance sedans, sports cars and sport coupes who want a tire with performance that matches the capabilities of their top-level automobiles. High-speed performance and handling in the dry and wet are emphasized, and like all summer tires, the Ecsta PS91 is not intended to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.
Formula 3 racing tire technology trickles down to the mainstream in the Ecsta PS91 with a new Carbon Black and Silica compound utilizing Max Grip Performance Resin to create maximum performance potential. Handling, responsiveness and high-speed stability are emphasized through enhanced block stiffness created by the C-Cut 3D design and the notched, continuous center rib. The 3D Dimple Design heat dimples minimize thermal buildup in the tread blocks, improving durability during hard use. Four wide, circumferential grooves evacuate water from beneath the contact patch, increasing hydroplaning resistance and wet handling.
The internal construction consists of a strong, two-ply rayon cord casing supporting two wide, high-tensile strength steel belts. High-speed capability is further bolstered with two full-width nylon reinforcement cap plies for improved handling responsiveness, stability and durability.

Three Against One in Max Performance Summer(05:50)
Michelin's Pilot Super Sport has been at the top of the Max Performance Summer category since its debut in 2011. It's the benchmark by which all other tires in the category are judged.
Enter new contenders from Goodyear, Kumho and Pirelli. Is one from this trio primed to ascend to the top and end Michelin's reign on the throne? Our Real World Road Ride and Performance Track Drive will tell the story.
Customer surveys indicate the Kumho Ecsta PS91 delivers outstanding dry traction, with frequent 9-10 scores for sharp cornering and precise steering. Wet traction earns consistent 7-8 ratings, performing well in rain though some note reduced grip in standing water. Comfort is praised for a balanced ride, though a minority report firmness or elevated noise. Treadwear receives mixed feedback, with scores ranging widely (0-10); some users highlight decent longevity for a max performance summer tire, while others note accelerated wear. Drivers prioritizing dry-road agility and summer-focused performance report high satisfaction, aligning with the tire's intended design.

...These Kumhos grip like none other with the pedal to the floor, and the tread design handles the hardest rain...
I was likely Tirerack's very first purchaser of this particular set of Kumhos back in June 2016. There were zero reviews, only a price of $90/each after a ridiculously good rebate (+ mounting and installation I was out-the-door for exactly $400 total). After some searching I found exactly one single review on the entire Internet...in Korean. I translated it roughly thru google translate but it was enough to sell me.
As a spirited Focus ST driver this is PERFECT set of tires to replace the stock Goodyears once they've worn out (and especially if you have a spare winter set on steelies). The stock Goodyears were a good tire for the ST, but these Kumho Ecstas blow them away. The only complaints I had about the stock tires were that they always had a tendency to bark when you floored it and they were a little too loose in the rain. These Kumhos grip like none other with the pedal to the floor, and the tread design handles the hardest rain.
I traded in the Focus ST and the tires were still in great shape with plenty of tread and 15,000 miles on them over the past year. It was the deal of the year back in 2016 on blind hope. And it still is in 2017 if you can grab a set (with a rebate) for <$120/tire.

...They handle predictably well in the rain ( better than OEM) and give confidence while accelerating and turning...
These tires have seen a mix of highway and city daily driving and one of the few tires with a (Y)-rating other than OEM. For daily driving, they do a better job of putting the power to the ground from a 650 TQ engine compared to the stock Pirelli PZero Nero All Seasons. They handle predictably well in the rain (better than OEM) and give confidence while accelerating and turning.
The tires started at 9/32nds. After 9500 miles, they are at 5.5/32nds (worn 3.5/32nds) and are wearing as expected for a 260 wear rating tire (7500 x 2.6 = 19500 miles / 7 = 2785 miles per 1/32nd). They should be good for another 6000-9000 miles of daily driving, however, they will likely loose their tread life quickly after a few track burnouts this Summer. The wear is even although I did experience some camber wear in the the front tires. The key here to prevent this is to measure/rotate the tires at the recommended intervals as I did not rotate them until 9500 miles.
Given the price of the tire, a (Y)-rating, and wearing as expected; I'll likely buy another set.

Most customers rate dry traction as excellent, with scores predominantly 9s and 10s. High marks highlight responsive handling and confident grip, delivering strong performance expected from a Max Performance Summer tire. A few 7-8 scores still reflect solid capability in intended conditions.

...Compared to the original F1 Supercars that came on the 1LE, these PS91s offer improved traction when accelerating and cornering...
Exceptional grip in all conditions. Compared to the original F1 Supercars that came on the 1LE, these PS91s offer improved traction when accelerating and cornering and they don't turn into water skis as soon as the road gets damp. At 7,000 miles, I estimate that these tires will easily make it to 15k (the original F1s made it 11k). I can verify that the 295/35R20 square setup works on 1LEs with no rubbing issues. I'm actually halfway through a cross-country road trip and these tires have handled everything this great country can throw at them. From a downpour in Missouri to carving corners in Colorado to getting down and dirty for a couple hours in Monument Valley, the Kumho Ecsta PS91 has proven itself many times over. This may be the best tire on the market when you consider its capability, performance, and price.

...Awesome dry grip and cornering, really good in the wet specially when pouring on the highway.
These tires replaced continental Sportcontact6 which I loved but spending over a grand on tires that only lasted me 6000 miles ( with rotations ) was not an option this time. My car is a vw cc with couple of upgrades, power wise it has a k04 and supporting mods, suspension wise it has vogtland cup kit, 25mm rear sway bar with solid links, ttrs front control arm and bushings. So far this tire has been better than the sportcontact6 based on price to performance ratio. Awesome dry grip and cornering, really good in the wet specially when pouring on the highway. And the treadware the tire just lost 1.5/32 seconds so it's wearing out amazingly slow for the abuse I put them through. The only think I think is s little let down would be the steering response it is a little slower than the sportcontact6 but not bad once you get used to it, definitely give this tire a chance you will not regret it unless you want some tract tire then this tire might not be for you, but for a daily driven car to have fun with I would get them again .

...Road noise was low and the car tracked nicely down the road... As the miles went on with these tires the road noise, traction, tracking down the road, all have gotten much worse...
I so badly wanted to love these tires. I have used these type of Khumos before on my Mustang and was pleased. But these have been awful. Initially I was really pleased. The grip was strong and had wonderful handling. Wet performance was better than expected. Road noise was low and the car tracked nicely down the road. I will admit, I drive slightly aggressive, especially with this BMW diesel but these are listed as performance tires and I would think that they would be able to handle what I'm doing. Here is the bad. I have 8000 miles on these tires and they are at the wear marks. I have rotated 3 times to even out the wear but this is awful. As the miles went on with these tires the road noise, traction, tracking down the road, all have gotten much worse. Now you have to hold the wheel because any deviation in the pavement and the car wanders. I continuously lose grip and traction control kicks in. The road noise is very noticeable now. I will not buy these again for this car. I believe the weight of the car plus the torque of the diesel have gone beyond the limits of this tire. I'll go back to the Pilot Sports, they were an amazing tire and handled the car superbly for 35,000 miles.

...I really thought treadwear has been excellent for a tire with a softer compound...
Very surprised by these tires! Kept them on all year here in Southern California. I really thought treadwear has been excellent for a tire with a softer compound. They handled the wet better than some all season tires. I was initially skeptical of how they would handle the colder months, but they surpassed my expectations even at 40° F, where summer tire performance tends to fall off dramatically. Overall a great tire for the money.

...Tread Wear - At 10,000 miles, the front and rears have 5/32. I did not rotate the tires and the fronts show camber wear (inside tire wear) with 3/32 tread. The rear tires wore evenly...
I purchased these tires from Tirerack.com in November 2016 when they were on sale with a rebate offer. At the time, this was one of the few tires that had a (Y) speed rating other than OEM. They have been daily driven.
Tread Wear - At 10,000 miles, the front and rears have 5/32. I did not rotate the tires and the fronts show camber wear (inside tire wear) with 3/32 tread. The rear tires wore evenly. If I rotated these, they would have likely worn better. I have rotated them and will likely get 2-3,000 miles more before replacing.
Cornering - These tires still corner like day 1. They keep the vehicle planted in the turns, provide confidence and are predictable. However, steering feels loose and requires more corrective inputs when driving straight; likely due to the camber wear on the tires.
Grip - The tires still grip very well vs. the OEM All Season tires. They keep you straight in rain and still provide confident grip. With more wear on the tread, the tires tend to flat spot easily after sitting over night. It usually takes about 5 minutes of driving for the tires to warm up and can likely be fixed with a slightly higher tire pressure (currently running 31-32 psi cold and gets to 33-34 hot).
