The Discoverer S/T Maxx is Cooper's Commercial All-Terrain light truck tire developed for the drivers of pickup trucks, SUVs, full-size crossovers and vans looking for a tough tire that provides the traction needed to navigate the loose terrain of job sites, gravel roads and off-road use. In addition to off-road capabilities, the Discoverer S/T Maxx is designed to deliver confident paved-road performance in dry, wet and wintry conditions, including snow.
The Discoverer S/T Maxx utilizes a cut- and chip-resistance compound molded into a symmetric, hybrid four-five rib design for low pattern noise and to promote even wear. The open pattern and multiple block edges provide the clawing traction necessary when negotiating soft, uneven soil, rocks or gravel. Stone ejector ribs and the non-parallel groove walls help resist rock retention, improving longevity by preventing stone drills that may potentially damage a tire. In-block sipes create the biting edges needed for traction in wet conditions, and the high-void pattern provides ample drainage away from the footprint for hydroplaning resistance. Discoverer S/T Maxx tires are molded to accept optional #15 metal studs to enhance traction on packed snow and ice.
Cooper's Armor Tek3 construction utilizes two 90 degree radial body plies, in addition to a third body ply with an eight degree bias to help reduce gaps between sidewall body cord. Two high-strength steel belts support the tread, while the nylon reinforcement above the steel belts provide high speed durability.

Ratings Charts & Reviews Cooper Discoverer S/T Maxx
Drivers consistently rate the Michelin Defender T+H as an outstanding all-season touring tire, with exceptional scores (9-10) in treadwear, dry traction, and hydroplaning resistance. Comfort receives high praise for smooth ride quality and low noise, aligning with touring expectations. Winter traction is generally strong in snow and slush (7-10 range), though a few users report reduced confidence on ice. Wet performance shines with near-perfect ratings for grip and stability. Longevity stands out as a key strength, with many users noting the tread holds up well over extended mileage. While winter capabilities are solid for an all-season tire, occasional lower ice scores suggest cautious driving in severe conditions.

I just drove 225 miles combined highways and city. City driving is excellent and reasonably quiet. Very good handling, cornering. Wet traction is as good as dry traction and very impressive. Significantly improved braking distance and wet traction compared to old continental proconract. Problem is Highway driving where these tires becomes noisy. At speed higher than 65 tires are not at all forgiving to minor road bumps and irregularities. No issue with handling, at high speed though. City driving is amazing but highway driving is not very comfortable as of now.

150 mile per day round trip commute. These tires stick like super glue in all conditions. Even on fresh chip & seal, they will regain traction if they begin to slide. Driving as many miles as I do, I like to get up front and stay up front. I am not trying to save tires or gas, just get to work. I rotate every 13k miles. Perfect even tread wear on an AWD Subaru Crosstrek. Yes they are more expensive than the competition. They will out last and out perform the cheaper tires in all conditions. I strayed from Michelin on the last set of tires and had a long winter. These tires also perform well in up to a foot of snow. Really impressive. If you drive like a pansy and are scared of snow, buy cheaper tires.

...The tires are quieter, handle as well as the others, but have improved traction on wet pavement. When the other models sometimes had some slippage in the rain, these tires are excellent in the wet feeling like driving on dry pavement with no sensation of hydroplaning...
This is the third set of tires we have had on this car since new; all Michelins. The car came with the Michelin Energy, which when worn out we replaced with The Michelin Primacy. As a reference of wear, the first set lasted approximately 50,000 miles and the Primacy lasted 60,000 miles with no change in the type of driving. Comparing what we have seen so far, compared to the other models, this tire is expected to last longer, but time will show. The tires are quieter, handle as well as the others, but have improved traction on wet pavement. When the other models sometimes had some slippage in the rain, these tires are excellent in the wet feeling like driving on dry pavement with no sensation of hydroplaning. With winter coming I expect to have something to say about their snow and ice performance. In all I am really pleased with these tires.

...I swapped to these Michelin tires and I swear it's like day and night. I tried them out for the first time after a night of 10 inches of snow. Phenomenal tires. I was born and raised in Wisconsin so I know how to drive in deep snow. Snowstorms don't scare me. But the tires that came with my 2015 Mazda CX-5 were awful in the snow. I couldn't come to a complete stop in deep snow or I'd get stuck. I drifted around most curves, and not intentionally. I figured it was because I have a FWD and not an AWD, but turns out, the tires make the most difference. I swapped to these Michelin tires and I swear it's like day and night. I tried them out for the first time after a night of 10 inches of snow. It was slushy the next morning and my car had no problem plowing through it. I never skidded once, and I was able to come to complete stops and accelerate without skipping. For once, I was going faster than most cars on the roads. It felt like I was driving an AWD vehicle again. An added bonus is that they're a little softer and quieter than my old tires. Old potholes that used to jolt my whole car feel like a soft bump now. I can't recommend these tires enough.

...These tires have already saved us from a close call on the highway with their superior grip and cornering ability...
I ordered these tires for my wife's Kia Sorrento(2014) so far she loves them! We live in Rhode Island so we get all four seasons, they handle very well in light snow and ice and they handle extremely well in the rain and dry conditions! There is almost no road noise from these tires. We only have about 5000 miles on the tires but it looks like no tread wear at all. These tires have already saved us from a close call on the highway with their superior grip and cornering ability. Thanks Tire Rack and Michelin!

...They also do great in dry conditions, I have had no issues with driving spiritedly through back roads and up and down some local mountains.
These came on my car when i bought it and they are awesome tires. They are amazing in the rain, as I have done some really dumb things in the rain and reached speeds of 90+ MPH in a downpour and they handled it flawlessly (aside from when I had to quickly hit the brakes but that's always going to cause a loss of grip) and they made it through several snow storms and blizzards with little issue (keep in mind I have AWD) Their only issue in heavier snow is stopping. They also do great in dry conditions, I have had no issues with driving spiritedly through back roads and up and down some local mountains.

...Cornering is good and dry traction is very good...
These tires replaced the Michelin Defenders that I had on the van. The defenders were quiet and smooth with good dry weather traction but not so good wet weather traction. The Defender T+H are just as quiet if not quieter and very smooth running. Cornering is good and dry traction is very good. These definitely feel like a premium quality tire. Now for the bad news: The Defenders that I had on the van were 90,000 mile tires. With 2/32 to 3/32 left on them the mileage was about 28,000. That was a lot to pay for tires and only get 28,000 miles out of them. I did get them prorated but still have to payout for the new tires and the install. I am hoping the Michelin was paying attention to the short life span of the Defenders and made the T+H to last a lot longer.

...The treadwear and reliability are superb...
These are my go-to tires. This is the 4th set I have owned. The treadwear, warranty and reliability are superb. This set of Defenders replaced OEM Bridgestone Ecopias, that were worse than terrible. The Michelins provided a much better ride, along with big improvement on wet, snow and ice.
I will buy Defenders again and highly recommend them.

PHENOMENAL TIRE! PERIOD. I have bought many tires over the last 40 years and these tire are above and beyond anything I have ever had. These tires replaced Michelin Defenders which I thought were good except that they only lasted about 29,000 miles vs their 90,000 mile warranty. These tires are even better in fact far better. Good job Michelin engineers! You've got a winner here.
The ride quality of this tire is beyond words...sooooo smooth sooooo quiet soooooo controlled...MICHELIN hit a home run with these tires.
Now the only remaining question is how long will these last?
If you buy these tires expect to be blown away.

...The Michelin Premier A/S's probably have slightly better wet handling however I chose these for the tread life...
I've had Goodyear Eagles, Firestone Firehawk Wide Ovals, and these Defenders on my car. The road noise has always been very loud and I just thought the car had bad noise dampening. When I got these I was amazed that the road noise was almost non existent. Dry and wet handling are great. The Michelin Premier A/S's probably have slightly better wet handling however I chose these for the tread life. I just drive the speed limit on the highway every day. If you drive over rocks, these tend to pick up some since the tread is so deep. Overall, I'm very happy with these.
