The Defender2 is Michelin's Standard Touring All-Season tire built for drivers of coupes, sedans, crossover, SUVs and minivans, looking for a dependable tire with reliable year-round traction. Defender2 tires are built to combine long, durable tread life with capable all-season performance in dry, wet and wintry conditions, even in light snow.

The all-season compound is molded into a symmetric tread design allowing for flexible rotation patterns, helping manage block wear and maintain a smooth, quiet ride. Interconnected tread elements minimize airborne noise and help ensure a stable footprint for predictable handing in dynamic maneuvers. Wide, circumferential grooves provide ample pass-through volume and channel water from generous lateral notches for enhanced hydroplaning resistance. Carefully integrated lateral and longitudinal sipes help provide biting edges and grip on slippery pavement for confidence in inclement weather and wintry roads.

Internal construction of the Defender2 consists of a single-ply casing with a high turn-up ply design to maintain durability while preserving ride comfort. Twin steel belts provide a robust foundation for the tread and are reinforced by a polyamide cap ply for stability at high speeds.

...They don't last at all and are horrible in the rain.

DO NOT BUY THESE TIRES! I would never buy them again, there is a reason there is no warranty treadlife listed. They don't last at all and are horrible in the rain.

...The wet traction is not very good, and dry traction is so-so... None the less, wet traction, u just are not sure what is going on beneath you...

Drive to Lake Tahoe fairly often during the winter. Thank goodness for chains and traction control because the tires themselves are terrible in slick conditions. In snow, always had feeling that backend of van was going to break loose and skid (and it did on occasion). In rain, always hydroplaned at around 55mph. Treadwear is a joke. Tires have to be replaced at 31000. Best qualities of tire is handling in dry conditions, quietness, and ride comfort.

...Traction on anything except on dry pavement is dismal, as is performance in the wet. These tires hydroplane if its raining in the next state!...

This tire does nothing well except provide a smooth ride. Traction on anything except dry pavement is dismal, as is performance in the wet. These tires hydroplane if its raining in the next state! Wear is awful, too, as theyre ready to be replaced at 23000 miles.

...The snow traction is awful too. Had to get snow tires just to make it home in 4in!...

If this wasn't sensored this space would be filled with a very bad word. I had to replace the fronts at just 17, 000mi. And the grip was just awful. You could get enough weelspin to trigger the traction control in 2nd. gear. With 244hp! The snow traction is awful too. Had to get snow tires just to make it home in 4in! Replaced them with cheaper Kumho Solus KR21s. What a difference. Much more refinned and easier on the gas bill too. I recomend you do the same.

...I have tried fast starts from standstill with no slippage even when pulling hard rights (which all Vue owners know happens alot with stock tires). Cornering is great as well...

After running down my OEM HT Dulers at 27k miles I looked for something better. After reading the reviews on tirerack.com I choose the Michelin Energy LX4s. I could not be more pleased with these tires. They are a signifant increase in quality from the stock tires on my Saturn 2003 Vue AWD. The highway tire noise is so low I can hear the engine on accelration. I have tried fast starts from standstill with no slippage even when pulling hard rights (which all Vue owners know happens alot with stock tires). Cornering is great as well. It rained this past week and I have had no problem with highway nor street driving) I highly recomend these tires for Saturn Vue AWD Owners.

...They were exceptional on dry pavement and above average on the wet stuff...

Got these tires as OEM. They were exceptional tires on dry pavement and above average on the wet stuff. They've only seen snow a couple of times and seemed fine to me.

Great handling and performance through the first 45k miles. I found them to be very quiet for the first 40k miles but then got rather noisy at 50k. From 50k to 60k they are really annoying. I still have about 4/32 of tread on them but can't take the noise any longer. I looked around but decided to go with another set of LX4s. I liked the performance and never experenced a flat. I hope to get another 3 years of quiet performance out of them before selling the minivan. We have moved cross country twice and spend a lot of time in the vehicle so these tires get a lot of use. I rotate and balance them about every 10k miles which I believed extended the tread life. They were on target for 70k miles but I just couldn't take the noise once I hit 50mph. I decided to get a new set for the performance and hope these tires hold out as long and keep quiet through the duration that I own the vehicle.

...These run quiet, handle nicely, and still have about 10,000 miles left on them...

Self employed consultant. Use my car 6 days a week and basically live in it. Mobile office. I drive hard, fast and in all types of weather. These run quiet, handle nicely, and still have about 10,000 miles left on them. No complaints and will buy again. Never needed rebalancing. Plugged nail holes from job sites 4 times myself and the tires just keep working fine. Do not expect my crossover Lexus to perform like a sports car butm it sure drives nicer than all ofthe other SUV's I tested and these tires, like my past vehicles Michelin's, have performed very well.

...So far the Michelin tires ride just as quiet as the Bridgestones...

I purchased the Michelin tires to replace the original Bridgestone tires (which hydroplaned at 50000 miles, as reported in other reviews). So far the Michelin tiresride just as quiet as the Bridgestones and provide the same gas mileage. As far as wear and hydroplaning I have not had them long enough to know how they will perform.

...Worst of all, with only 12,000 miles significant treadwear has led to new tire shopping...

These tires came OEM on the Sienna. They started well and did fine in perfect conditions but handled sloppily and were no better than average in wet conditions. They were hazardous in the snow. Worst of all, with only 12,000 miles significant treadwear has led to new tire shopping. I do not recommend this tire.

...My Honda Odyssey came with these Michelin Energy LX4 tires and they need to be replaced at only 40,000 miles... I can't believe that Honda uses such low quality tires...

I would like to thank Tirerack.com for this web site. My Honda Odyssey came with these Michelin Energy LX4 tires and they need to be replaced at only 40,000 miles. First I thought the tires had some sort of manufacturing problem, but after reading all these consumer reports, I see that there are many people out there with the same problem. I can't believe that Honda uses such low quality tires. I am even willing to write a letter to Honda to complain. Worst part is that these tires are VERY expensive and don't even have a treadwear warranty. For what I have read it seems that the Yokohama Avid TRZ might be a good alternative. I will definetely not buy a Michelin tire ever again.
