The Solus TA51a is Kumho's Grand Touring All-Season tire developed for drivers of compact cars, passenger sedans, crossovers and SUVs looking for a reliable daily driver joined with a luxuriously quiet experience. Targeting dependable performance in wet and dry conditions, the Solus TA51a aims to deliver Kumho's combination of ride comfort, low noise and all-season traction, even in light snow.

Kumho Solus TA51a

Solus TA51a tires feature a high-grip silica compound molded into an asymmetric tread pattern designed to maintain traction in all weather conditions. Technological advances, such as the noise-canceling ribs integrated directly into the tire's grooves dissipate road sounds. 3-Dimensional chamfered edges of the tread blocks take advantage of the tire's natural deformation under load to maximize tread contact. Quad circumferential grooves help expel water to resist hydroplaning, while high 3-D sipe density enhances both wet weather handling and wintertime snow traction.

The internal construction of the Kumho Solus TA51a consists of a 2-ply polyester body casing for additional protection and ride quality. This foundation supports a layer of twin steel belts for satisfying handling and stability topped by two nylon cap plies granting the reinforcement needed to maintain uniformity and high-speed performance.

Michelin Energy Saver A/S Reviews

Owners report excellent treadwear with many ratings in the 9-10 range, highlighting long-lasting performance ideal for year-round touring use. Comfort receives strong praise for smooth ride quality and low noise levels. Winter traction shows mixed results, with some customers noting struggles on ice and in deep snow despite the all-season designation. Wet traction scores consistently in the 7-10 range, with reliable hydroplaning resistance for rainy conditions. Dry handling earns positive feedback for responsive steering and stable cornering, though a few drivers mention slightly reduced grip during aggressive maneuvers. The tire's durability and refined ride make it a practical choice for everyday commuting.

...The tire is great for efficiency and decent on dry roads...

A common theme with Chevy Bolts on the factory tire. The tire is great for efficiency and decent on dry roads. The dealership had replaced the tires to resell it so they were brand new. Rain was fine, not the best traction but not the worst I've experienced.

When it started to snow my opinion on the tires dropped drastically. 8" of powdery snow it handled with some slippage on accelerating but braking and cornering handled as expected. As soon as it started melting, the slush was very dangerous to drive in. The worst single incident: driving 15 mph on a slight downhill with 1/2" of slush. Even slight braking was locking up all 4 wheels and slid 50 feet to a stop sign. At this same stop sign with traction control on, I was unable to move from a stop. Turned off traction control and maintained gentle throttle until the wheels could clear the slush to get a tiny bit of traction to get moving again.

I replaced with crossclimate2s and I have not had to worry anymore. The 15% range loss is worth the safety.

...Since 2012 the Mustangs ride, handling and comfort have been excellent, making driving the car a lot of fun. Steering was spot on and predicable.

This review is for New - Michelin Energy Saver A/S tires - installed on a 2012 - 305 HP V6 Mustang.

When I purchased my 2012 Mustang, Michelin Energy Saver A/S tires came with the car as OEM by Ford.
Since 2012 the Mustangs ride, handling and comfort have been excellent, making driving the car a lot of fun. Steering was spot on and predicable. In 2023 the tires were 11 years old with tread still left but due to their age I decided to purchase new ones.

During my decision to purchase new tires I read a lot of reviews on Tire Rack.
After a lengthy period of time, researching tires, I decided that because the Original Michelin Energy Saver A/S tires were so good and I was very satisfied I saw no reason to try an other brand. If I had tried an other brand of tire and I did not like them, I would be stuck with a tire that I would not be happy with.

The new Michelin tires are great in the summer with a predictable limits when cornering at high speeds or braking.
I have never driven the car in snow and just a few times in wet weather where the tire traction was good.
I have a Volvo for winter driving also equipped with Michelin tires.

I would like to add that I have owned over 11 makes of cars and have been driving for 58 years.
The great ones were Lotus, Cougar and Firebird. Others were Volvo, Spitfire, T-Bird, and with every car experience
came trying a great number of tire brands and in thousands of driving conditions and situations.

...Handling, comfort and road noise is all good as well...

These are the best set of tires I've ever owned on a vehicle. They currently have 50,000 miles on them and still have a decent amount of life left. I get them rotated every other oil change which helps, but these have lasted a lot longer than any other tire I've had. Handling, comfort and road noise is all good as well. Highly recommend this tire!

...These tires provide a smooth ride, very good high speed corning and breaking traction and good gas mileage ( 28-30 mpg at 80mph / 24-26 in town)...

This tire is the 2nd set of OEM tires on my 6 speed automatic 2012 Mustang V6. At 72,000 the original OEM tires were 10 years old and although there was lots of tread left, the rubber was getting hard at which time the car would slightly slide the rear end on dry pavement when accelerating and turning at the same time. Because this tire was OEM (Original Equipment from the Manufacture) ( I'm sure they tested many types before equipping Mustangs with this tire) and because I had put on over 70,000 trouble free fun miles on them without any problems, I felt there was no need for me to experiment by purchasing a different brand. These tires provide a smooth ride, very good high speed corning and breaking traction and good gas mileage (28-30 mpg at 80mph / 24-26 in town). I check the inflation (36lbs.) once every two weeks using a calibrated air gauge.

When driving in the country the car is very predictable. If I make a fast turn the tries tires stick. Ninety percent of my driving is around town the other ten percent is on the highway. I am very pleased with these tires. Every time I drive I am trusting my life to these tires.

...I have over 55,000 miles on these, I'm a little ashamed of myself to say this, but I've never rotated the tires either... I don't know how I'm getting the miles I'm getting out of these, but zero complaints here in these tires...

A lot, and I mean a lot of people dislike these tires on their Chevy Bolt. Nearly every review I've read bash this tire's traction and wear. Whelp, I'm here to be in the minority and say that these tires have lasted well over what anyone could fathom and have done pretty well in the category of traction (wet and dry) when you take into consideration the amount of torque you see from EVs. I have over 55,000 miles on these, I'm a little ashamed of myself to say this, but I've never rotated the tires either. I bought the car new, with 8 miles on it, and no one has driven the car but me. I drive it like it's a go kart with full pedal acceleration in most cases. I don't baby the car or the tires, or the brakes... I don't know how I'm getting the miles I'm getting out of these, but zero complaints here in these tires. I'm doing some tire research because I'm thinking I'll need tires in about 3 months or so, and it's honestly going to be a tough choice to go to another brand/tire given these have been so good to me.

...I recommend Michelin tires for their thread wear which lasts longer than other brands so high price is justified...

Easy financing was main reason I ordered. The installation provider is the one you have to watch out for in terms of service, pricing, availability and quality. If you want new valve stems you might have to tell installers and additional charge. Ordering was easy and straightforward. I recommend Michelin tires for their thread wear which lasts longer than other brands so high price is justified. Goodyear has same durability and is tougher for offroad or flats. Goodyear is a little bit less traction and comfort than Michelin. Remember to check alignment yearly and tire pressure once a month. If you see a low tire fix it immediately because it’s usually a puncture from something sharp.
