Max Performance Summer tires are for serious driving enthusiasts who want a combination of a performance appearance, competent handling and Z-speed rated (or higher) durability with enhanced dry and wet traction. Often used as Original Equipment (O.E.) on powerful sports cars, performance coupes and high performance sedans, Max Performance Summer tires are not intended to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.
O.E. Max Performance Summer tires are typically purchased as direct replacements for worn-out pairs/sets of the vehicle's original tires. They can also be used for other vehicle applications in complete sets of four or axle pairs if available in an appropriate size, load range and speed rating to match the existing O.E. tires' performance category and specifications.

Drivers consistently rate the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 as an excellent Max Performance Summer tire, with standout scores in dry traction (9-10 range) for sharp steering response and confident cornering. Wet traction earns strong praise (7-10 range), though a few note reduced hydroplaning resistance in heavy rain. Comfort receives positive feedback for a smooth, controlled ride, though some mention moderate road noise. Treadwear scores vary widely, with many users reporting shorter-than-expected lifespan (scores 2-10), though this aligns with typical trade-offs for high-performance summer tires. Ideal for drivers prioritizing grip and handling over long-term durability, it delivers category-appropriate performance with minimal compromises.

As always with Michelin Pilot Sports, great traction & handling in dry & wet. No significant ride penalty, and noise is as expected for a high performance tire. Seem fairly soft so curious to see how wear progresses compared to tread wear rating. Never disappointed in Michelin!

...Get rolling, turn the wheel, and floor it, and the car just hooks and goes. Tight turn at 50 in 3rd, floor it, car just hooks...
These tires are absolutely spectacular. I had my car making around 410 hp and 430 tq, and it just hooks up. They could break away, but you need to work to make it happen. Get rolling, turn the wheel, and floor it, and the car just hooks and goes. Tight turn at 50 in 3rd, floor it, car just hooks. Went from spinning at 40 in the dry with Pirelli P Zero Nero's to hooking at 30 in heavy rain in these tires. Awesome lateral traction and braking as well. The tires feel like they are loading up as you approach the limit, and you can feel the limit as well. Smooth and predictable breakaway. I drove these tires hard, with a few WOT from under 40 each day, and the rears lasted 18k without rotating. Fronts have plenty of tread left. I drive 80 miles a day and maybe 75 of those are highway on weekdays and 10 on weekends, and these tires held up great. These tires were great on a daily driver performance car, but would also be great for a performance SUV or someone who wants the best daily driver tires on the market. There is not as much steering feel as you would get out of a Cup 2 or similar, but it is good enough for a car without much steering feel to begin with as I wouldn't notice it as much.
If you are going to drive your car only on the street, and you will drive it in the rain, these are the best tires for the job. They are definitely expensive, but if you can afford it, pull the trigger as these are as good as it gets. They are nearly as good as the 4s and the cup 2 on the road, but they would not hold up like the others on the track.
I only put 18,000 miles because I just got the rears to bald, but the fronts still have 6/32.

...they are very responsive yet provide a comfortable ride ( feel & noise) given the very low sidewall...
these are OEM tires on my 2019 Genesis G70 Sport AWD, they are very responsive yet provide a comfortable ride (feel & noise) given the very low sidewall. The main issue I have is with the wear, I only drive them April - November and the fronts are totally shot, the cord is showing on the driver's right. I don't track the car and I'm not overly aggressive on the roads. Thinking of staying with the Michelin brand and going with the Pilot Sport 4S which appears to have better tread life while maintaining the performance characteristics
Treadwear receives many 9-10 scores, with customers praising excellent durability in summer conditions. While some ratings range lower (0-6), the majority highlight strong longevity for a max performance tire when used as intended in dry and wet traction.

Third or fourth set of different tires and best of all. Wear was atrocious. Grip and handling is fantastic. These are more of a track tire than for commuting.

...They have some wear on them after track use, but I will be driving on them until winter because the wear is minimal.
I got these tires for my aftermarket te37s. I have used them for both daily driving and track and autocross days. The tires have held up and felt amazing even after hard use. They have some wear on them after track use, but I will be driving on them until winter because the wear is minimal.
