Tires are designed specifically for different vehicles and wheel sizes. Tell us about your vehicle or the specific size you want so we can help find the right tires for you.

The Pilot Sport PS2 is a Max Performance Summer tire member of the Michelin Pilot family of low profile, high-speed tires. Initially developed for Original Equipment (O.E.) on some of the world's most prestigious sports cars and performance sedans, the Pilot Sport PS2 combines world-class dry road traction, handling and cornering. Some of the first Pilot Sport PS2 O.E. fitments included the BMW Alpina Z8, McLaren SLR and Porsche GT2/GT3 models. The Pilot Sport PS2 is not intended to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.

On the outside, Pilot Sport PS2 features two different tread rubber compounds (a hybrid silica/carbon black compound that begins at the tire's outer shoulder and continues across the tread until it joins a high-silica compound that continues to the tire's inside shoulder) molded into an asymmetric design with large outer shoulder blocks and continuous intermediate and center ribs to enhance steering response and cornering stability. Both tread compounds are specifically formulated for their location to combine dry and wet traction with crisp corning and high speed capability. The tread design also features wide circumferential grooves and lateral notches that help channel water through the footprint to enhance wet road traction.

On the inside, the tread design is supported by two high-tensile, lightweight steel cord belts that are further reinforced by size-optimized, precisely placed individual Aramid/nylon hybrid filaments to provide improved steering response and resistance to distortion while enhancing ride quality and high-speed durability.

Customers Say

Owners report excellent dry traction and confident cornering, with many scores hitting 9-10 for precise handling in summer conditions. Wet performance also impresses, showing strong grip and hydroplaning resistance, though a few note slight variability in heavy rain. Ride comfort receives consistent praise for smoothness, while noise levels stay acceptable for a max performance tire. Treadwear feedback is mixed-some highlight decent longevity for aggressive driving, but others mention rapid wear, especially with spirited use. Overall, drivers praise its balanced blend of responsiveness and wet/dry capability, aligning well with its summer-focused design.

...The grip and responsiveness of these tires in the wet and dry conditions is unbelievable...

On average I drive my M3 over 100+ miles a day, mostly on the open highway, so the PS2s are put to their test each day. Of all the BMWs Ive had and all the different tires Ive tried on them, the PS2s are the best by far. The grip and responsiveness of these tires in the wet and dry conditions is unbelievable. I will purchase another set.

...These babies stack up against track only tires while giving you outstanding wet performance...

Best high performance tire on the market. Worth the price. I spend a fair ammount if time on the track with this car and these tires are the best I've had. I have tried so-3's, ADVAN, pzero, ps1s couple models also but none were as good as these. So-3's being in my opinion the next best. On the plus side this compound remains grippy throughout the life of the tire and really holds up well against extreme heat from a track. Sure they don't last long (6-7k on the rears 11k front roughly) but that is to be expected from a high performance tire. So I can't knock the tires for that really. If you have a high perfomance Car and really want to drive it the way it was ment to be driven then these are the tires for you. Enthuasists only. I wouldn't recommend these tires to a casual driver as they are expensive and you won't notice a huge difference in everyday driving from a say so-3 (saving a bit of money). I really want to compliment the sidewalls of the tires as they really are second to none. These babies stack up against track only tires while giving you outstanding wet performance. Whatever car a the time is my best performance machine will only get Michelin ps2s until they come out with the models replacement. I'll save the tinkering with tires on other vehicles.

...wet traction is incredible (once they let loose, though, they are loose!)...

I replaced some fairly worn Kumho Exstas which came on the car. The PS2's are a huge improvement in every way. Dry traction is equal or better, tramlining is almost nonexistent now, wet traction is incredible (once they let loose, though, they are loose!), and ride and noise levels are really impressive. I have them on two cars now, and PS2's are the best tire in this class. They replaced Conti SportContacts on our other car, and they were a huge upgrade there, too.

Tires are near-perfect for my purposes: comfortable cruising interspersed among autocross and quick back-country touring. They are on 19x9/10" rims, so they aren't eligible for rotation. Great tires, and if I ever wear them out, I hope there will be new ones for purchase.

...Some other items to highlight - dry traction - it is as most reviewers find, simply outstanding. While most of use do not push our cars to the limit even in spirited driving, the driving schools provide a great venue to really understand the vehicle at the limit - and here the PS2 shines. I am very pleased with the PS2s. This tire represented my first foray into max performance tires so I cannot provide any comparison to other related tires.

However, what I can tell you is that these tires are excellent. While most of the miles on these tires are a combo highway/city, there are also 12 high-performance driving school (track) days on these tires so while they are at about 3/32, headed quickly to 2/32s I think the treadwear has been excellent considering.

Some other items to highlight - dry traction - it is as most reviewers find, simply outstanding. While most of use do not push our cars to the limit even in spirited driving, the driving schools provide a great venue to really understand the vehicle at the limit - and here the PS2 shines. It retains excellent grip even on a hot, greasy track and is predictable in its performance. It also responds quickly to small handling inputs allowing for corrective steering. The only item of note here is that I found tire pressure to have a wide affect on the lateral stability of the tire. I ended up running under stock pressure cold in the front to mimize the tire "rolling over" past the wear marks on the edge of the tire. I dont think I ever quite got this right as the tire wear is probably a quarter inch past the wear marks down the side of the tire (this is all from track days, not regular driving).

Living in the northeast Ive had plenty of time to test it in the wet and again, performance here is outstanding. The water has to be deep to even hint at hydroplaning, even now with roughly 3/32s left, it still remains an excellent performer, confidence inspiring actually. I also had the opportunity to test in the wet on a track. This was truly a positive showing, the grip in the wet was just amazing, such that I was passing much higher performance cars because they were on R compound tires (quattro probably helped too!) :)

Net - truly one of the top performers and deserving of the accolade

My 2nd set of the Porsche rated PS2’s. I went up a size from 18” to 19” and all ride and comfort is nearly the same. Not a lot of time on these since TR wants a review a week after they were mounted. But my experience on the last set was great. Porsche designed the car with these tires and they won’t disappoint.

...comfort: excellent. Very silent tyre troughout its whole lifespan. I run it at 2.5 bar front, 2.8 rear. together with a sporty suspention its silent, firm, but never harsh...

I ran the standard PS2 at the 4 wheels for 12000 miles, now I run the PS2 MO (Mercedes Original) at the 4 wheels for about 6000 miles. The 2 tires look exactly the same but feel different (cfr. last note)

- In the dry, handling and lateral grip is amazing. grip-slip-grip is bearely noticable and this tire was the only tire up till now that didnt let the car understeer. It sticks really hard after running 10 hard miles on a dry +25degC day.

- In the wet, grip level is lower but the feel and handling remain almost the same. Control, feeling and grip-slip-grip is of the same high level as in the dry.

- On wet roads with a lot of water on it at high speeds (>80 mph) you experience more resistance than with e.g. the Pilot Sport PA2 of Sportcontact2 but is certainly not bad at all!

- comfort: excellent. Very silent tyre troughout its whole lifespan. I run it at 2.5 bar front, 2.8 rear. together with a sporty suspention its silent, firm, but never harsh. My father runs it on his E250 avantgarde at 1.9 bar front & rear: steering is excellent, fast and the tire absorbs almost anything on the road. No mather what pressure you run, its still a tyre which shows its very sporty nature.

- lifespan: Its probably my right foot: 12000 miles on the rear and theyre gone. The pilot alpin PA2 winter tyre survived exactly 25000 miles with rotation and the same driving style. I pay +/- 160 US$ per tyre in Belgium so its expensive but ok. Theyre that good that Im willing to accept the lifespan.

- MO-label or not? The difference is small. The most apparent difference is steering response: its faster and the tyre feels like it has a slightly harder carcass. Since comfort is the same, I suspect the tread compound to be softer to compensate. I suspect this because the tyre wears equally fast and Ive driven the tyre for 6000 miles in a much calmer way. The faster steering lowers lateral dry: it slides a bit faster than the original PS2.

MO or not: both awesome tyre!

...my tread wear has been unbelievable...I am just now replacing my rear tires 295/30/19 after 15,000+ hard core miles on them...I was pleasantly surprised they lasted this long. The fronts are in EXCELLENT shape...

This tire is the single best high performance tire your money will buy. I have a significantly modified M3 lowered with the stiffest suspension kit imaginable and I drive it the way it should be. These tires are sick at high speed handling...140+ and you feel glued to the road into EVERY turn...my tread wear has been unbelievable...I am just now replacing my rear tires 295/30/19 after 15,000+ hard core miles on them...I was pleasantly surprised they lasted this long. I have run every high performace tire available and the PS2 is by far the best high performance tire on the market...

If you are serious about significantly improving your cars performance...then I strongly recommend this tire.

I purchased these tires 18,000 miles ago and the treadwear has thus far been excellent. By my esitmate, I could take them to 25,000 miles without an issue... which is great for a tire like this. I have had an issue with them; however, in that they have developed an extremely loud and incredibly annoying thrum from about 50mph to about 62mph. Above and below that, they are tolerable. I dont hit potholes, my car gets aligned regularly (twice since the tires... once at install and once again 2,000 mi ago) and the inflation is checked religiously so I can only chalk it up to the tires being worn. The problem is bad enough that Im considering replacing them. Ill probably get another set of PS2s but I might try the Yokohama Advan Neova AD-07s instead. Eighteen thousand miles isnt bad for a performance tire, I just wish they had remained tolerable throughout the treadlife... this is why I may just get them again and try my luck.

Testing Max Performance Summer Tires Tuned for North American Drivers (03:46)

Driving in the U.S. and Canada vs. Europe or Asia is very different. The condition of our roads, the mix of urban driving plus extended highway cruising and even consumer preference vary. Continental Tire recognizes this as they develop tires tuned specifically for North American drivers.

To find out how well their most recent example, the ExtremeContact DW, meets the needs of the North American market, we compared it to three other Max Performance Summer tires: the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric, Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 and Pirelli's P Zero.
