The Pilot Sport PS2 is a Max Performance Summer tire member of the Michelin Pilot family of low profile, high-speed tires. Initially developed for Original Equipment (O.E.) on some of the world's most prestigious sports cars and performance sedans, the Pilot Sport PS2 combines world-class dry road traction, handling and cornering. Some of the first Pilot Sport PS2 O.E. fitments included the BMW Alpina Z8, McLaren SLR and Porsche GT2/GT3 models. The Pilot Sport PS2 is not intended to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.
On the outside, Pilot Sport PS2 features two different tread rubber compounds (a hybrid silica/carbon black compound that begins at the tire's outer shoulder and continues across the tread until it joins a high-silica compound that continues to the tire's inside shoulder) molded into an asymmetric design with large outer shoulder blocks and continuous intermediate and center ribs to enhance steering response and cornering stability. Both tread compounds are specifically formulated for their location to combine dry and wet traction with crisp corning and high speed capability. The tread design also features wide circumferential grooves and lateral notches that help channel water through the footprint to enhance wet road traction.
On the inside, the tread design is supported by two high-tensile, lightweight steel cord belts that are further reinforced by size-optimized, precisely placed individual Aramid/nylon hybrid filaments to provide improved steering response and resistance to distortion while enhancing ride quality and high-speed durability.

Testing Max Performance Summer Tires (03:17)
In Max Performance Summer tires, high traction levels are paramount and some refinement in road manners is also critical. Low profile sizes, high speed ratings, and O.E. fitments on some of the world's best vehicles are hallmarks of the category.
Kumho's new Ecsta LE Sport takes on the top tires in the category in our recent test.
Owners report excellent dry traction and confident cornering, with many scores hitting 9-10 for precise handling in summer conditions. Wet performance also impresses, showing strong grip and hydroplaning resistance, though a few note slight variability in heavy rain. Ride comfort receives consistent praise for smoothness, while noise levels stay acceptable for a max performance tire. Treadwear feedback is mixed-some highlight decent longevity for aggressive driving, but others mention rapid wear, especially with spirited use. Overall, drivers praise its balanced blend of responsiveness and wet/dry capability, aligning well with its summer-focused design.

...Going 80+ in heavy downpour these tires kept me in constant contact with the road. Never once, in about a 20 minute stretch of heavy rain, did the tires lose traction with the road!...
Just broke in my new Michelin tires on a 1000 mile trip from VA to PA and back and they performed great! They handled excellent on the highway (dry and wet conditions). Going 80+ in heavy downpour these tires kept me in constant contact with the road. Never once, in about a 20 minute stretch of heavy rain, did the tires lose traction with the road! Dry conditions was even better! The tires have a much softer feel than my old Goodyear's. That soft feel provides for a more comfortable ride in my 2005 vet, and at the same time gives the driver a feeling of better control of the vehicle. I especially liked the softer feel driving around town. The vet cornered great in the city, and has excellent grip in take-off. Thanks Michelin! Will definitely buy again!

...I live on the west coast of Canada so there is quite a lot of rain here. The Michelin's handled the light and heavy rain like a champ...
Just purchased these 1 month ago, best tire I have had on this car. My usual commute is approx. 50 miles combined city and freeway. I live on the west coast of Canada so there is quite a lot of rain here. The Michelin's handled the light and heavy rain like a champ. My car has just come alive again. I replaced the worn out Goodyear Asymetric with these due to I could not handle the road noise any longer. The Michelin's are so much quieter and also seem to soak up the small inperfections in the road. I would highly recommend these to any luxury sport sedan owner that wants comfort to go along with great handling characteristics. Thanks for the great advice tire rack!

Customers overwhelmingly rate dry traction as excellent, with most scores 9-10. Exceptional grip and responsive handling highlight its max performance summer capabilities. A few 7s note minor concerns but don't detract from high satisfaction.

...On track these tires deliver traction many drivers get only from dedicated racing tires. I constantly have other drivers coming over to the vehicle after being on track with me, looking and feeling the tires which typically look like abused race tires with deep bumps and ridges and small stones all stuck to them, and commenting on how well they perform.
Michelin did an outstanding job of building this tire with beyond excellent dry traction characteristics combined with very long tread wear (in respect of driving style and use). I use this car for 70% very aggressive track days and 30% highway getting to the various tracks at docile speeds. ...I love spirited country driving, lots of turns and nice short straight runs make for a fun afternoon... But these tires hold up really well taking the turns and not having the back side slide out and feel like you are loosing your butt, if you understand where I am coming from. Well planted and solid feel in all the conditions I could through at them this past weekend on the trial run...
Ok, torn between going with the PS4s when I found the PS ZPs. Because this is our touring car, I just was to antsy about not having an out if we did have a flat, so when I found that Michelin finally made these for my car, I had to give them a try and I am very pleased with the 200 percent improvement over the Stock Bridgestone Run flats these replaced. What a world of difference in the comfort and noise. I love spirited country driving, lots of turns and nice short straight runs make for a fun afternoon. My car does not have the M suspension and needs the run flat hard side walls to keep the fat rear end in line until I make some suspension changes. But these tires hold up really well taking the turns and not having the back side slide out and feel like you are loosing your butt, if you understand where I am coming from. Well planted and solid feel in all the conditions I could through at them this past weekend on the trial run. I'll check back in 6 months, I have a trip to the Dragon and 6 Gap planned, we are going to see how they hold up under pressure.

Took my Z51 to Carolina Motorsports Park. Was doubtful about performance of runflats on track, but these are some sticky sum-----es! Cornering waqs awesome. They did best at about 38-40 psi hot.

...Ride is good, but don't kid yourself, these are sport tires and that 40 aspect sidewall is not meant for comfort. Putting the BMW in comfort mode gives a nice ride...
Just put these on today, swapping out the Pirelli Cinturatto P7 All Season run flats. The Pirellis rode very rough and were noisy. First impressions of these tires are an improvement in noise, although a bit of a hum around 40 mph, but no different from the Continental Pure Contacts on my wife's Camry. Surprisingly quiet at 70 mph. Handling is good, but can't do much until I get 200 miles on these new tires, given the mold release agent, etc. on new tires. Ride is good, but don't kid yourself, these are sport tires and that 40 aspect sidewall is not meant for comfort. Putting the BMW in "comfort" mode gives a nice ride.
These tires got a great rating from all sources and am looking forward to providing follow-up comments as I put the miles on.

...Surprisingly quiet and comfortable ride when cruising with a guest aboard...
Great tires for all reasonable high performance summer driving. You can find higher performance tires, with shorter life, for track use and you can find long life tires with much less traction for commuting but these tires are among the best tires for driving your high performance sports car during the summer (above 40 degrees) on the street and for an occasional visit to the race track. Very predictable on and off the track. Surprisingly quiet and comfortable ride when cruising with a guest aboard. If you own a sports car and drive it like a sports car, you will enjoy these tires. If you don't own a sports car...enjoy your high mileage 4 season tires instead!

The tires are very soft to give the performance expected in a corvette, but you sacrifice longevity. Have used several sets of these tires in 7 1/2 years. Front last about 18,000 miles and back about 30,000.

...I have 81,000 miles on the car, ( 11k on this set) and i have probably 20k more on these... They do last 30k or 28k as before. Always rotating them every 5k.
This is the best tire for this vehicle, period. I have 81,000 miles on the car, (11k on this set) and i have probably 20k more on these. Easy on city, hard on highways. I hope michelin keeps making this tire for the X3M40i. Smooth ride all day long. They do last 30k or 28k as before. Always rotating them every 5k.

Testing Max Performance Summer Tires Tuned for North American Drivers (03:46)
Driving in the U.S. and Canada vs. Europe or Asia is very different. The condition of our roads, the mix of urban driving plus extended highway cruising and even consumer preference vary. Continental Tire recognizes this as they develop tires tuned specifically for North American drivers.
To find out how well their most recent example, the ExtremeContact DW, meets the needs of the North American market, we compared it to three other Max Performance Summer tires: the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric, Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 and Pirelli's P Zero.
