The Pilot Sport S 5 excels in warm dry and wet conditions, so like all Max Performance Summer tires, is not intended to be serviced, stored nor driven in near- and below-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.
The Pilot Sport S 5 is available with Michelin's Premium Touch sidewall treatment. This next-generation adds visual depth and contrast, delivering a rich, matte-black finish that complements high-performance vehicles with understated elegance.
The asymmetric tread pattern of the Pilot Sport S 5 features Michelin's latest Dual Sport Tread Design, pairing large, rigid outer blocks for lateral dry grip with wide inner grooves that evacuate water for confident wet traction. A new racing-derived compound on the outboard tread maximizes grip on dry roads and tracks, while a cutting-edge rubber formulation on the inboard enhances braking and control in wet conditions.
Underneath, the Wavy Summit architecture introduces precisely tuned undulations in the steel belts reinforcing the tread for sharper steering response and improved handling stability. The newly engineered bead design enhances ride refinement and cornering precision, while select sizes incorporate Michelin Acoustic Technology to reduce cabin noise.
The internal construction of the Pilot Sport S 5 starts with a lightweight single-ply polyester casing to deliver a balanced blend of ride comfort and responsive handling and then combines twin steel belts with a polyamide reinforcement for enhanced high-speed stability, tread longevity, and overall durability.
Limited sizes of the Michelin Pilot Sport S 5 are available with Michelin Acoustic Technology, which involves the manufacturer adhering a layer of sound-absorbing foam to the inner liner of the tire to reduce cabin noise in the vehicle. Select original equipment sizes of the Pilot Sport S 5 feature Bluetooth sensors and RFID technology in conjunction with Michelin Acoustic Technology and can be identified by the specific Acoustic and Bluetooth logos on the tire's sidewall.
Note: Tires exposed to temperatures of 20 degrees F (-7 degrees C) or lower must be permitted to gradually return to temperatures of at least 40 degrees F (5 degrees C) for at least 24 hours before they are flexed in any manner, such as by adjusting inflation pressures, mounting them on wheels or using them to support, roll or drive a vehicle.
Flexing of the specialized rubber compounds used in Max Performance Summer tires during cold-weather use can result in irreversible compound cracking. Compound cracking is not a warrantable condition because it occurs as the result of improper use or storage, tires exhibiting compound cracking must be replaced.
