The Pilot Super Sport ZP (Zero Pessure) is Michelin's Max Performance Summer run-flat tire originally developed for C7 Chevrolet Corvette, which was introduced for the 2014 model year. In addition to offering temporary extended mobility, Pilot Super Sport ZP tires also deliver world-class traction and handling in dry and wet conditions. However, like all summer tires, they are not intended to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.

Because the Z51 Performance Package takes the C7 Corvette to a more aggressive level of performance, Michelin has developed vehicle/size specific Pilot Super Sport ZP tires to permit fine-tuning features to match their vehicle application.

Vehicle ApplicationFrontRear
C7 CorvetteP245/40ZR18 (93Y)P285/35ZR19 (99Y)
C7 Corvette Z06P285/30R19 (94Y)P335/25R20 (99Y)
C7 Corvette Z51P245/35ZR19 (89Y)P285/30ZR20 (95Y)

All versions of the Pilot Super Sport ZP employ an asymmetric tread design that features a low-void outboard shoulder for cornering while their notched center ribs and inboard shoulder promote high-speed performance in dry conditions. Wide circumferential grooves and lateral notches help channel water through the footprint to maintain wet traction. Sizes for the standard C7 Corvette use a single tread rubber compound that blends dry traction, wet traction and treadlife; while the sizes for Z51-equipped and Z06 models feature side-by-side tread compounds. Different from the standard Pilot Super Sport tread compounds, one is designed and manufactured in the U.S. specifically for the C7 Corvette, and the other is made for racing applications by the same people and equipment that produce the compunds in Michelin´s Le Mans-wining race tires. The two combine to deliver near-racing-slick dry grip and handling levels, without abandoning tread life and wet handling.

Tires for all three models feature twin steel belts reinforced by spirally wound Twaron cord. The angles at which the steel belts are molded into each version have been tuned to balance performance and comfort. The steel belt angles used for the standard C7 emphasize ride and treadlife, while the angles used for the Z51 and Z06 tires focus on increasing performance and at-the-limit handling.

Twaron is a polyamide cord that offers a lightweight, high-strength reinforcement above the steel belts to enhance high-speed handling, wear and durability. It is applied using Michelin FAZ Technology (Filament At Zero degrees) that allows Michelin engineers to tune tension and strength by winding the cord around the tire circumference much the same way fishing line is wound onto a fishing reel.

Michelin Zero Pressure Technology reinforces sidewalls by adding run-flat inserts that allow tires to temporarily carry the weight of the vehicle in the event a puncture results in complete loss of tire pressure. The Pilot Super Sport ZP is designed to allow Corvette drivers to continue their journey for up to 50 miles at up to 50 mph. All three versions of the tires feature asymmetric run-flat inserts and casing components designed to broaden tire performances by focusing distinct functions on the appropriate sidewall. Inboard sidewalls feature a more rigid insert that increases sidewall stability to provide the majority of run-flat capability, as well as to transfer torque during acceleration, braking and cornering. Outboard sidewalls feature a softer insert that increases sidewall flexibility to maintain footprint size when cornering, as well as to enhance ride quality and tread life.

The front/rear sizes of the standard C7 Corvette are the same as those used on many C6 Corvettes, and they can be installed in sets on the earlier cars.

...Much improved cornering, wet traction, steering response, and hydroplaning resistance...

Definitely improved the handling greatly over the stock RF's. Much improved cornering , wet traction, steering response, and hydroplaning resistance. I should do some suspension mods to bring out more of the capabilites of this tire - stiffer steering rod bushings ,rear antiroll bar, and springs/struts. Great service and knowledge by the Tire Rack people.

...Wet pavement traction is good. Noticed a little hydroplaning in a major down pour the other day. Still very acceptable with staggered set up...

Purchased these tires to replace the original Bridgestone RE050A run flats. Night and day difference in tire noise and ride confort. Michelins are quite and smooth. Tire noise is minimal, ride comfort is very smooth, dry pavement grip is amazing. Wet pavement traction is good. Noticed a little hydroplaning in a major down pour the other day. Still very acceptable with staggered set up. (it was raining heavy.) I have roughly 1000 miles on tires, can't really rate tire wear yet.

Overall very happy with tires, only concern will be tire wear at this point.

...They provide excellent traction in wet and dry...

These are the best tires I've ever purchased. They provide excellent traction in wet and dry. They're quiet, which is very important to me as drive on the highway a lot. At about 5k miles, they are showing very little wear. They even look good on the car. Highly recommend this tire!

...Very impressed with stability, steering input response and overall dry traction...

Michelin Pilot Super Sports on a Audi A3. Just a really brilliant tire. Very impressed with stability, steering input response and overall dry traction. In the wet the Michelin PSS is also passing my tests with flying colors. These tires replaced a set of all season Falken's. While the Ziex 912's are no slouch, they are easily outperformed by the PSS. It is no contest. If you want a summer tire for maximum performance, look no further than the Michelin Pilot Super Sports. You will not be disappointed.

...The lightweight wheels plus the super tires are a mind blow... The traction is amazing on dry and wet...

I put these tires on my Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart 2010 with TSW Nurburgring Gunmetal 18x7.5. The lightweight wheels plus the super tires are a mind blow. Unlike the other summer performance tires the Pilot SS offers an excellent thread life with a warranty you can't beat. The traction is amazing on dry and wet. Its perfect tire for Quebec roads with potholes that look like grenades went off. For any sports car you can't go wrong with these. And one more note using basic common sense don't use them in winter/snow

Have had these tires for just over 2 years and am retiring them at around 70,000km. I absolutely loved them. Excellent dry and wet traction and the cornering stability is like no other tire I have every used. Have had my car at 200 kph (124 mph) and the tires felt like I was going 100 kph (60 mph) it was so smooth. Going to replace these with the new Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 as they are a very similar tire.

I finally purchased the Michelin pilot super sport for my 06 Volvo S60R and what a difference these tires made. The ride Comfort definitely improved, as well as handling and steering response. Not to mention they're not even broken in yet. Outstanding tires, I definitely recommend them and worth every penny.

...Road noise and ride comfort are extremely improved...

I replaced the OEM runflats with these and have never been happier! The traction - wet and dry - is significantly better than the OEMs! Road noise and ride comfort are extremely improved. Treadwear is noticeable - these are not 60,000 mile tires by any stretch of the imagination - but not objectionable given the grip, comfort, and respose they give. I ran these in an autocross - my first ever - and finished in the middle of my class on these tires. The car went where I intended it to and were very predictable.

I recommend these for any performance driving!

I replaced the OEM run-flats on my Z4 with these Michelin. The car is completely transformed. Traction and grip are incredible, steering responsiveness is improved, and they are much more comfortable than the rock-hard runflats. The Z4 feels like a proper sports car now.

...This is by far the best tire I've put on my car and I am very demanding... even the treadwear is the best of all tires I've installed on my car!...

The best sport tire you can find. Almost the same grip as the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup but with amazing performance on wet and especially on resistance to hydroplaning. This is by far the best tire I've put on my car and I am very demanding. Amazing on dry and wet surfaces, even the treadwear is the best of all tires I've installed on my car!
Highly recommended.

...I have staggered tires so rotating them is a no. And after one season I have more tread than the Yokohama's did at this mileage...

Great tires! I've had Yokohama Advin envigour before and they are no comparison. These tires are smooth and grippy even in rainy conditions. I like to take corners at very fast speeds at first they were too grippy, but after breaking them in they hold the road better than expected. I have staggered tires so rotating them is a no. And after one season I have more tread than the Yokohama's did at this mileage. I would defiantly buy these tires for any sports car.

...I cannot speak for the tread life getting me to 30,000 miles as I see that my rear tires are wearing considerably and may not get me to that goal with my driving style on the rear wheel drive M3 (I guess thats expected). My front tires have enough tread to likely last approx. 2 rear tire cycles so that probably gives you an idea of the wear on the tire without the heavy acceleration...

Now that I have 20,000 miles on these tires, I have experienced them through two full years of spirited driving through Pittsburgh's hilly roads and combined highway driving. I use my car mainly for a fun commute towork and the occasional track day when I have time (1-2 times per year). I do not have any experience driving these in snow but I have driven them in cold weather conditions below freezing. When I was looking for a tire to replace BF Goodrich Eagle summer tires (Not impressed with those tires), I wanted to find a tire that can combine sporty driving in dry and wet conditions, provide a semi-comfortable ride on my daily commute, can provide the responsive and sharp steering response while at the track and can provide at least 30,000 miles of tread life with my lead foot. It was a lot to ask so I figured if I get 75% of what I'm asking for it would be good enough. Well I can say this, this tire exceeded my expectations in most of the those categories, I like how sharp the steering feels while maintaining a comfortable ride, a very impressive feat. I cannot speak for the tread life getting me to 30,000 miles as I see that my rear tires are wearing considerably and may not get me to that goal with my driving style on the rear wheel drive M3 (I guess thats expected). My front tires have enough tread to likely last approx. 2 rear tire cycles so that probably gives you an idea of the wear on the tire without the heavy acceleration. There is lots to talk about these tires, so the reviews gave me the info I needed to make the right decision. Overall I summarize this tire as a good fit for sport oriented vehicles that are on the road for three season driving (except winter), it combines high cornering traction, steering confidence, good tread life with spirited driving even on the odd track day, confidence inspiring wet traction on rainy days and more. Can't speak highly enough of this tire for achieving these goals, I believe Michelin really raised the bar here
