The Defender2 is Michelin's Standard Touring All-Season tire built for drivers of coupes, sedans, crossover, SUVs and minivans, looking for a dependable tire with reliable year-round traction. Defender2 tires are built to combine long, durable tread life with capable all-season performance in dry, wet and wintry conditions, even in light snow.
The all-season compound is molded into a symmetric tread design allowing for flexible rotation patterns, helping manage block wear and maintain a smooth, quiet ride. Interconnected tread elements minimize airborne noise and help ensure a stable footprint for predictable handing in dynamic maneuvers. Wide, circumferential grooves provide ample pass-through volume and channel water from generous lateral notches for enhanced hydroplaning resistance. Carefully integrated lateral and longitudinal sipes help provide biting edges and grip on slippery pavement for confidence in inclement weather and wintry roads.
Internal construction of the Defender2 consists of a single-ply casing with a high turn-up ply design to maintain durability while preserving ride comfort. Twin steel belts provide a robust foundation for the tread and are reinforced by a polyamide cap ply for stability at high speeds.

Tire Rack Test Results Michelin Defender2
All-Weather vs. Winter Tires: The Definitive Test(12:05)
Brent and TJ set off with a couple of objectives in this, the first test of 2026. The first is to highlight the differences between two types of Grand Touring tires: all-season and all-weather. Second, to see how they stack up to dedicated winter tires. The internet is a great resource, but not all the information out there is accurate, and this test is designed to truly set the record straight.
Ratings highlight excellence in dry traction (9-10) and wet traction (8-10), with customers praising exceptional grip, cornering stability, and responsive steering. Wet performance earns consistent praise for hydroplaning resistance, aligning with summer tire priorities. Comfort scores (7-10) reflect a premium feel and quiet ride, though a few note minor road noise. Treadwear ratings vary more widely (0-10), with many reporting strong durability but some expressing concerns over faster wear in aggressive driving. Overall, the tire delivers outstanding dry/wet performance and refinement for its Max Performance Summer category, with treadlife satisfaction depending on usage intensity.

...i hit a 2in puddle on the freeway going 70mph and the car never hydroplaned...
Great tire for performance vehicles has amazing traction in dry conditions and great wet performance i hit a 2in puddle on the freeway going 70mph and the car never hydroplaned. Only thing is it is a noisy tire but not obnoxious like other tires and the grip is so amazing it flings pebbles into the fender liner.

Love this tire for its tenacious grip in both wet and dry conditions...
Love this tire for its tenacious grip in both wet and dry conditions. Generally only get 12-15k miles out of it but those are fun filled miles on twisty roads. Old scca road racer still beating on his daily driver! Not cheap and needs to build some heat when driving in sub-30 degree weather (never in snow) but offers high, consistent performance throughout its life and I’ve burned through several sets.

...Well I'm approaching the wear indicators with 28,000 miles on them. And I always enjoy being in the pole position at a red light!...
Many stories about heavy EV’s like my P85D chewing thru tires, especially these super soft Pilot Super Sports. No way I’m supposed to get over 12,000 miles before their junk I was told. Well I’m approaching the wear indicators with 28,000 miles on them. And I always enjoy being in the pole position at a red light! Wife says “warn me when you’re going to do that ridiculous excelleration”. I think the secret to long tire wear for me is highway driving 90% of the time, and very slow turns on rough surfaces when maneuvering out of or into parking spaces. Michelin Tires on my Tesla staggarded configuration are incredible! The performance off the all wheel drive is very impressive from the line. 0 to 60 in 3 seconds. Tires lock in tracking perfectly with full on Ludicrous, pulling HARD!!! Tires provide the Same confidence on challenging North Georgia mountain roads. Extremely crisp & snappy steering. My overall score = 10.0
