The Hakkapeliitta 01 (Studded) is Nokian Tyres' Studdable Winter/Snow tire developed for the drivers of both internal combustion and electric vehicle (EV) passenger cars, crossovers and sport utility vehicles looking for adaptability and predictability as winter conditions change from harsh ice and snow to milder bare roads.
The Hakkapeliitta 01 (Studded) ships pre-studded and was engineered as the world's first studded tire whose grip (and studs) automatically adapt to changes in temperature. The Hakkapeliitta 01 (Studded) features Double Action Stud Technology - when the road temperature is at or below freezing the rubber stays stiff and keeps the studs in place for grip on icy roads. When the temperature of the road surface warms up, the compound softens and allows the studs to sink deeper into the tire, optimizing its contact with the road surface and reducing stud impact. The result is less road wear, improved ice and wet grip, along with reduced noise levels for a quieter ride. The tread design also supports its winter aims, thanks to aggressive snow grooves on the shoulder areas providing strong grip when moving into deep snow. Self-locking 3D sipes support the tread blocks during road contact, enhancing stability in corners and during sudden maneuvers.
18 inch and greater sizes of the Hakkapeliitta 01 (Studded) feature Aramid reinforced sidewalls to enhance durability allowing the tire to withstand everyday driving impacts. Select sizes feature SilentDrive Technology with a layer of acoustic foam on the inner liner of the tire to help lower sound levels.
Internal construction of the Hakkapeliitta 01 (Studded) features a 2-ply polyester casing and two steel belts for durability and consistent control alongside a polyamide cap ply for additional support at highway speeds.
