The Ventus R-S4 (Z232) is Hankook's Extreme Performance Summer tire developed for the drivers of sports cars, sports coupes and performance sedans looking for near-motorsports levels of grip for track events, autocross and drifting in a tire that can be driven on the street. Like all summer tires, the Ventus R-S4 is not intended to be serviced, stored nor driven in near- and below-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.

Hankook Ventus R-S4The Ventus R-S4 utilizes a new, carbon black and silica high-grip compound molded into a low-void, directional pattern. The wide, continuous center rib creates uninterrupted contact with the road for solid on-center feel and immediate response to steering inputs. Massive outboard shoulder blocks deliver the lateral grip expected for high-g cornering in motorsports events and performance driving, while the chamfered block edges maximize contact with the pavement under load. Wet traction has been addressed through the addition of highly dispersible silica. A functionalized polymer allows the silica to better bond within the compound matrix, while the two main, circumferential grooves allow water to flow through the contact patch for improved resistance to hydroplaning. Heavy rain and standing water may still present challenges to longitudinal and lateral hydroplaning resistance, so drivers should take care and drive cautiously at reduced speeds in these conditions.

The Ventus R-S4's performance begins on the inside. High-modulus bead filler and sidewall reinforcement material reduce sidewall flex for more immediate handling response. A two-ply casing sits beneath two wide, steel belts that support the tread. A two-layer (single layer in some sizes), jointless nylon cover is tuned to optimize handling and stabilize the tread for long life, and an extra reinforcement in the shoulder helps withstand the abuse of performance driving, even in high-camber situations.

Note: Tires exposed to temperatures of 20 degrees F (-7 degrees C) or lower must be permitted to gradually return to temperatures of at least 40 degrees F (5 degrees C) for at least 24 hours before they are flexed in any manner, such as by adjusting inflation pressures, mounting them on wheels, or using them to support, roll or drive a vehicle.

Flexing of the specialized rubber compounds used in Extreme Performance Summer tires during cold-weather use can result in irreversible compound cracking. While compound cracking is not a warrantable condition because it occurs as the result of improper use or storage, tires exhibiting compound cracking must be replaced.

Pirelli P Zero Nero All Season Reviews

Drivers consistently rate the Pirelli P Zero Nero All Season as excellent in dry traction (9-10 scores) and wet traction (8-10), with strong hydroplaning resistance and responsive handling. Winter traction earns positive feedback (7-8 range) for light snow and slush, though deeper snow performance shows variability. Comfort stands out with high marks for ride smoothness and low noise, while treadwear receives praise for durability in all-season use. A few outliers note harsher ride quality or faster wear in aggressive driving, but most customers highlight balanced performance across conditions. As an ultra-high-performance all-season tire, it delivers confident year-round capability with no major weaknesses in its intended categories.

...Honestly had very good traction in the wet (daily t-storms in N FL), fairly quiet road noise on the highway and decent traction on the track...

Came as OEM fitment on the new vehicle. Vehicle is daily driver on mostly highway but also taken on road course track and drag strip several times. As a three season OEM tire, honestly not a lot of expectations, but these tires actually held up fairly well in all situations. Is more of 'jack of many, master of none' type tire. Honestly had very good traction in the wet (daily t-storms in N FL), fairly quiet road noise on the highway and decent traction on the track. Nothing spectacular but passing grades in all situations.

Have now switched to continental extreme contact sport summer tires, so looking forward to everything being better, apart from the few times a year when it dips below 40 degrees.

...We just had a great snow storm and are sitting at -25c and the tires grip and handle great!...

I upgraded to the PZERO from the stock Dunlops (worst OE Tire EVER!) and what a difference. OE tires are usually always the worst so i expected an improvement reguardless. These Pirellis are a nice quiet ride and handle well. We just had a great snow storm and are sitting at -25c and the tires grip and handle great! Im happy with my decision. Highway or in the city, there is very little road noise at all. Bumps still make a tire ping but overall quiet ride.

...And the wet and ice traction make them a no brainer for anyone needing an all season design...

First off I am 50+ years old. So when I say these tires are a better choice than other more costly tires, you can believe it. Even on dry roads they feel better in the corners than most summer tires. And the wet and ice traction make them a no brainer for anyone needing an all season design. Every aspect is great. When a tire is rated this high, at this price, with this many miles reported. Why look at anything else.

...But for winter conditions (up here in Canada), I've been really impressed with these tires. Consider that I have always used studless winter tires for the past decade, this was the first time in a long time that I've used all seasons in the winter and I've been very impressed by their winter traction and performance on slush, snow, and ice!

These came stock on my 2015 GTI. They perform quite well in dry conditions. Their weak spot is rain and wet roads, they lose grip pretty easily. ...On dry pavement when compared with the OEM summer tires, there is minimal but notable lateral swim as the vehicle's weight shifts in turns and In quick lane changes, feeling more like flex within the tread blocks than within the sidewall, but grip remains quite high and ultimately secure, just not as immediate as with the summer tires. My confidence in spirited driving suffered initially, but with familiarity and a few thousand miles of tread wear, this effect has largely diminished...

I replaced my OEM Bridgestone RE050 summer tires with these Pirellis and have been generally happy with them. I knew I was trading some performance for winter weather traction and have not been disappointed in that regard--these are excellent performers in both sloppy slush and cold, dry snow. They have been very safe and predictable in the rain with very little hydroplaning through standing water. At 20,000 miles they're a little noisy at low speeds and a bit more worn than I anticipated. I need to replace them before 30,000 miles, not at 40,000 as I had hoped.

On dry pavement when compared with the OEM summer tires, there is minimal but notable lateral "swim" as the vehicle's weight shifts in turns and In quick lane changes, feeling more like flex within the tread blocks than within the sidewall, but grip remains quite high and ultimately secure, just not as immediate as with the summer tires. My confidence in spirited driving suffered initially, but with familiarity and a few thousand miles of tread wear, this effect has largely diminished.

My biggest disappointment has been some loss of grip when accelerating compared to the summer tires. After a gear change under hard acceleration, these tires bite well initially but can then break free as the turbo spools up and more power is put down. That said, it's usually not enough to engage traction control, perhaps because my car has a limited slip differential. This behavior at the limit might be different in a RWD or AWD car.

In retrospect, I underestimated how important summer tires are to maximizing performance, but given this is my daily driver, and that I have to get around in the frozen stuff, I'm happy with my choice. In the end, I can say that for the spirited driver these are an excellent compromise between performance and winter practicality.

The P Zero tires are great. They perform well in wet and dry conditions. The grip is better than expected for tires with a reasonably good wear rating. You have to push very hard to break them loose. In normal street driving that almost never happens. Even in the wet weather they seem to grip quite well. Definitely recommend these tires.

...Road noise was minimal and comfort was excellent. They were quite and very responsive...

The Pirelli replaced the Continental OEM tire. Got 45K from the OEM, but didn't like the noise of the OEM from about 40K to 45K. So, I switched to the Pirelli based on some reviews. I really liked these tires for the first 15K miles. Road noise was minimal and comfort was excellent. They were quite and very responsive. But at 25K miles, these are just about shot. I probably should have rotated them more often, but did so about every 8K miles (so, maybe this situation is self caused). The last time i rotated them at 24K, the road noise post rotation was unbearable. I had them "un-rotated" and returned to the pre-rotation positions. I am relegated to running them bald at their current position, as they cannot be rotated and create and acceptable for driving experience. Not sure what the next tire will be, as there are limited options for my size needs. Probably back to the Continentials. But, I won't spend the money on the Pirelli PZERO again.

I bought these tires for my 2011 Hyundai EQUUS in Mar 2013 from Tire Rack. There was 17,000 miles on the car. It is now JUL 2013 and these tires are completely worn out. 85% of tread on both back tires is gone. Tires have only alittle over 5000 miles on them. I don't drive this car like a maniac after all it's a luxury car not a sports car. Seems to me these tires should have lasted more than 5000 miles. Definitely would not buy again.

Overall, these tire have been a mixed bag. Wet and dry traction and cornering have been excellent - among the best I've ever had. The road noise however is intolerable - my luxury car sounds like a four wheel drive truck going down the highway and they pick up and transmit every vibration in the roadway. Treadwear has been good - I've gotten nearly 50k miles out of them and the tread is just now down to the wear bars. The flip side is, despite good alignment, the inner shoulder is beginning to separate and has torn along the edge of the belts. Time for another brand. NOT recommended.

I anticipate 35,000 miles of wear, not bad for a 3900 lb car...

I am very impressed so far with the P Zero Neros. Though admittedly I haven't driven at the ragged edge, they have performed admirably in all everyday parameters. Great stability in hwy tracking. No hydroplaning unless passing through deep water at speed. Traction in wet and dry is very good, and steering response is predictable, if not lightning fast. I wish the wheel protection from curbs was a little better.

I anticipate 35,000 miles of wear, not bad for a 3900 lb car. Given the competitive price, I would definitely buy them again.

...BTW, the treadwear is really very good compared to other UHPAS tires I've had...

Compared to other tires in the ultra high performance all season (UHPAS) category, these are really very good. I rated these tires high in dry & wet traction, cornering stability, steering response & ride comfort. As far as noise, the tread is down to 3 or 4/32, and these are still the most quiet UHPAS tires I've ever seen. BTW, the treadwear is really very good compared to other UHPAS tires I've had. While these tires have very good wet traction, the one area where they fall short is hydroplaning resistance. They are adequate down to about 6/32, but beyond that they are not confidence inspiring. It is now time for new tires, and I've narrowed it down to either these or the new ContiExtremeContact DWS. In other words, I would definitely buy PZero Nero AS again. The only difference is that I'd replace them when the get down to 6/32.
