Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3 Callouts

The Scorpion AS Plus 3 is Pirelli's Crossover/SUV Touring All-Season tire developed for the drivers of crossovers, SUVs and pickup trucks who want a smooth and comfortable ride with all-season confidence designed to go the extra mile, mile after mile. Specifically built for North American drivers, the Scorpion AS Plus 3 focuses on increased ride and noise comfort and longer tread life along with consistent traction in dry, wet and wintry conditions, including light snow.

Utilizing functionalized polymers, the advanced tread compound is designed to generate higher levels of traction and provide longer mileage than previous-generation tires. The carefully engineered, asymmetric tread pattern features minimized void space for maximum contact with the road surface to increase overall grip and improve wear characteristics. Larger, sequence-tuned shoulder blocks help improve dry handling while minimizing tread noise, and the optimized mold profile helps further distribute forces for even wear and enhanced wet performance. Evenly distributed grooves and channels are designed to work in unison for predictable wet performance and hydroplaning resistance. The Scorpion AS Plus 3 employs a variety of full-depth and 3D sipes focused on retaining slippery and inclement weather traction throughout the tire's life. Horizontal 3D sipes combine with vertical sipes in the shoulders for increased biting edges while retaining good clear road handling characteristics. Zig-Zag and deep sipes on the inboard tread blocks offer consistent traction as the tire wears through wet conditions and in snow and on ice.

The internal construction of the Scorpion AS Plus 3 consists of a two-ply polyester casing designed to blend handling with comfortable road manners. Robustness and high-speed stability are ensured by twin steel belts which are reinforced by two polyamide cap plies.

I’ve been very impressed. I don’t feel water on the road and they grip just as well as they do on dry pavement, there’s no “impact” when I hit standing water on the road and I haven’t experienced any hydroplaning. Road noise is nonexistent and comfort is on par with Toyo Open Country H/Ts, the Pirelli don’t have the width the Toyos do even though they are the same size but for the price I paid I’m happy with them. They handle beautifully, abrupt maneuvering is easy and confident. The white lettering is only visible when up close, the white scorpion looks like a sticker until you get close.

...The grip in the snow, wet conditions and off-road conditions has been phenomenal... I was also very impressed with the stopping ability in dry and wet conditions where I would surely have written off the vehicle were it not for their performance.

Extremely happy with these tires. The grip in the snow, wet conditions and off-road conditions has been phenomenal. I attribute the great traction of this tire to the large amount of siping throughout the tread pattern which is so important. It has held its own in the mud but certainly wouldn't be considered a true 'mud' tire but I am happy with its performance in the mud arena. I have used these tires hunting (moose, deer, sheep, goat and bear) where they have been tested in some very extreme terrain (no roads) and they pulled me out of some pretty dire conditions. I am currently hunting for another set to be purchased for this fall. I was also very impressed with the stopping ability in dry and wet conditions where I would surely have written off the vehicle were it not for their performance.

I've gone through General (OEM - worst tires ever on a truck), Dunlop (done after 30K), and Scorpion highway - the ATR was originally a mistake, but a much better match for this vehicle.

I had bridgestone revo's on my truck, which I use primary to plow. With the revo's I had to chain up everytime, even in small amount of snow. I only have to chain up the scorpians when we get more than a foot now. I just bought a new truck and I'm shopping for new scorpians for it. I've run bfg at's, revo's, and the michelen ltx m/s and the pirellis are the best in snow, the treadwidth of the scorpian is about a full inch narrower than the revo of the same size, which makes it much better in snow. The new truck has michelen ltx a/s on it now, and I've already found myself going down a road sideways. My scorpians are load range d and I've put 1.7tons of gravel in my 3/4 ton truck and the tires handled it just fine at 65psi.

...They definitely provide less dry traction/performance than the ATRs but for my needs it is a perfect compromise as the ATRs were not good in snow...

This set of tires replaced my Pirelli Scorpion STRs, which were awsome highway tires. Since I am a skier, I needed a better tire for winter driving so I chose these (ATRs). I am extremely pleased with the overall performance in wed/dry/snow conditions. They are very comfortable and quiet. They definitely provide less dry traction/performance than the ATRs but for my needs it is a perfect compromise as the ATRs were not good in snow. I rotate and balance every 10K so I always get the max out of my tires. The STRs lasted for about 50,000 mi and the ATRs are curently showing minimal wear. Hightly recommend these to any SUV owner who wants all weather capabilities in a tire but is not looking for top performance on dry roads. Also did notice a slight decline in gas milage as compared to the STRs and the STRs were also a slightly harder ride. The STRs are definitely more performance oriented while the ATRs are more for comfort and all weather capability. Love-em to death!

...The tire does very well at speed in dry conditions...

We bought the car with this tire. It has preformed well, and I recently repurchased the tire after 50,000. I consider that good mileage on the tire based on the type of driving that I do. The tire preforms good (not excellent) in wet conditions, but we were looking for an upgrade in that department. Due to the size and speed rating we were not able to do so. The tire does very well at speed in dry conditions. Over the last 10,000 miles the tire has gotten noticibly louder and it was not a quiet tire to begin with. I have owned one other set of Pirellis and this tire was far superior (both were relatively loud). Only got 20,000 out of the last set on an Audi Allroad doing mostly city driving. That car chewed through a nice set of Michelins pretty fast as well.

i drive like a phyco most of the time and i think the truck will roll before the tires miss a beat they have never chirped around any higher speed on/off ramps or manuvers...

i put the scorpion atr on my 2001 ext cab z71 4wd silverado on 20 inch wheels and love them! by far one of the best tires iv ever driven on!!! i wasnt going to write a review until i drove them in ALL TERRAINS . i live in mn and just got a blizzard last night with ice under 6 inches of snow . i drive like a phyco most of the time and i think the truck will roll before the tires miss a beat they have never chirped around any higher speed on/off ramps or manuvers. i used to have a WRX and with these tires it handles just as good! i also have an 05 tahoe with my 3rd set or 285/75/16 REVOs i was worried the atr wouldnt perform as goog but last night i drove both the atr did better in 2wd than the tahoe did in 4wd and in 4wd they wouldnt spin at all and it didnt always have the abs going on as the revos were. noise is quiet towing is easy wet/dry/DEEP/light snow and ice is great and they look great and for half the price as the revo you cant beat them i highly recomend them to anyone as do i with the revo they were the best id driven on before the atr they look more aggressive but dont perform nearly as wellthey still have the nubs on them so tread wear so far so good but too soon to tell

...They are comfortable, quiet and look great riding around on...

I can not lie I love this tire. These came as OEM on my F150 and wow! They are comfortable, quiet and look great riding around on. They can handle light mud very well. In the rain I have yet to have an issue. 65-80 in the rain on the highway and no chance of slipping even with 305hp and 365 ft. lbs.

The only issues I have had with it are the treads love to sling mud onto my black truck and if its cold small flat spots appear (but are gone in 2-3 minutes).

...The ride was extremely comfortable considering it was a Wrangler, and above all the tires rode quietly and held up with the off-roading stresses I put on them...

I installed these on my Jeep Wrangler Sport (model yr 2004) after the Mickey Thompson Bajas wore out in under 10k!. The Scorpions lasted me approximately 25,000 miles until I replaced them for a new set. I used to deflate down to 10-13 psi and do hardcore dune bashing in the desert, and re-inflated back up to 35 psi once all the fun was done with. They worked great on my weekend warrior and in the city with all the highway driving. The ride was extremely comfortable considering it was a Wrangler, and above all the tires rode quietly and held up with the off-roading stresses I put on them. Tread wear was surprisingly awesome considering the combination driving I did in the very hot climate I lived in. I actually read Tire Rack's reviews before buying this set. Back then (in 2006) they were rated in the 9's which inspired me to buy them. Since then, I switched to Pirelli for my sports car, but I didn't get the same satisfaction or durability out of that endeavour with P-Zeros. They cost too much and wore our quickly. I also had Pirelli on my F150 FX4 which rode quietly and sat nice on the vehicle - although the factory size was puny for the truck model (275/50r20).

Anyhow, I liked the Scorpions and experienced them briefly in deep puddles in the city and off road where they held up extremely well and did not hydroplane at all. Water depth was in excess of 1 foot at times during a flood we experienced in the city. I have tried other brands since this Pirelli set and I think my vote always goes to Pirelli Scorpion ATR or the Goodyear Wrangler which exhibited the same durability and reliability on my 2004 Grand Cherokee Limited that also went off road a fair bit. I am most impressed with the Scorpion's even tread wear and quietness. Would buy them again for the right price.

I do a lot of highway driving & this tire is perfect for it. I was looking for a smooth quiet tire for the highway & the Pirelli Scorpion is it. I am very pleased that I made this purchase. I went from the Goodyear Wrangler RT/S which I will never purchase again for any suv that I own for future highway driving. If you have a suv & you do a lot of highway I strongly suggest you make this purchase.

...I do a lot of driving across Washington state and found the noise level and ride comfort to be very good with exceptional tread wear.

Wet weather traction has always been a problem, because of the torque that comes with driving a diesel. These tires cut the wheel spin in the rain by more than 50%. I keep these on my truck through the winter and they also offered very good light snow and ice traction and acceptable traction in the occasional heavy snow. I do a lot of driving across Washington state and found the noise level and ride comfort to be very good with exceptional tread wear.

...After 5000 miles (90% highway) I see only minor wear at the tire's shoulders-most likely attributed to spirited cornering...

I bought this tire primarily as a compromise to achieve the best winter driving performance possible without springing for a dedicated winter tire. So far I have been impressed by the Scorpion ATRs winter abilities. These tires a superior on snow covered and icy roads-so much so that I would say they equal many common winter tires. I have been continually amazed by the grip from these Pirelli tires on packed snow and ice covered roads. I have used them extensively on mountain passes throughout the Rocky Mountain States and they lend a confidence to winter driving-just ask the people I passed over Teton Pass. The dry and wet pavement traction is better than I ever expected from a tire that is labeled as an All-Terrain. We almost need a new category to fit the Scorpion ATR-Performance All-Terrain. These tires allow me to flog my vehicle way-too-fast over harsh dirt roads and keep me between the ditches. After 5000 miles (90% highway) I see only minor wear at the tire's shoulders-most likely attributed to spirited cornering. An added plus is The Tire Rack's great price for these tires.

Purchased these awesome tires over a year ago and have put about 12000 miles on them and I have had no problems at all. I pull a 32ft 5th wheel camper all over, even through the blueridge mountains and these tires perform great in all weather conditions.
