The Scorpion WeatherActive is Pirelli's Crossover/SUV Touring All-Season tire developed for the drivers of CUVs, SUVs, and pickups looking for comfort and confident performance in dry, wet, and light snow conditions. The Scorpion WeatherActive is designed as an all-weather tire to meet industry severe snow service requirements for the three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) symbol alongside its all-season performance.

Scorpion WeatherActive callouts

The Scorpion WeatherActive's innovative polymer/resin compound is molded into a V-formation directional tread pattern designed to deliver dry, wet, and wintertime performance as well as quiet on-road comfort. A narrow, long footprint and rigid 3-rib block design provide lateral traction and stability through turns in dry and wet conditions. A central zig-zag groove and trumpet-shaped lateral grooves work together for wet weather handling and hydroplaning resistance. Multiple biting edges within the tread blocks combine with deep sipes and generous shoulder notches for increased snow traction sufficient to receive the three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) symbol.

The internal construction of the Pirelli Scorpion WeatherActive consists of a two-ply polyester casing supporting two steel belts. Two polyamide reinforcement plies enhance high-speed stability and performance.

Note: While non-winter tires featuring the three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) symbol may provide additional longitudinal snow traction beyond what all-season (M+S) tires not bearing the symbol can deliver, they do not match the capability of a true winter tire in all adverse weather conditions.

...These tires remind me of the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tire when driven in the dry and wet (though not quite as sporty)...

I've owned many winter tires over the last 10 years, but these are probably my favorite yet. Great mix of off-snow manners combined with very predictable and confident ability in all sorts of winter conditions - of course, nothing short of studded tires will help a lot on sheer ice. These tires remind me of the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tire when driven in the dry and wet (though not quite as sporty), and they perform as well as any other winter tire I've owned when things get frosty (Michelin X-Ice 1&2, Conti TS780) I drove these throughout last winter, starting in NC, and spent about 2 months with them in the CO mountains. They were great on the highway and around town, and I really appreciated their performance on snow-packed roads. The tires were excellent when driven through unplowed 6-12" dry CO snow, and were also very agreeable in wintry slush. Too early to tell on tread wear, but so far, so good. All I could ask for in a versatile winter tire.

I am very impressed with the dry and wet handling... The dry and wet performance is impressive for a winter tire...

I was looking for a performance winter tire for my Macan S and choose the Pirelli Scorpion Winter. I knew I could probably get a better winter tire for snow traction, but wanted a performance winter tire for my spirited driving style when roads were dry. I am very impressed with the dry and wet handling, but not very impressed with the snow performance. The are definitely better in the snow than the all season performance tires I was using, but I expected a little more grip in light and heavy snow. Since it doesn't snow that much in SE Michigan, I probably picked the best winter tire for my needs. The dry and wet performance is impressive for a winter tire. If I lived in an area with more snow days, I would probably pick a different winter tire.

At highway speeds I was able to maneuver over and in 2 feet of snow without any problems. Tires proved their superiority in diverse and austere conditions.

Just got these a few weeks ago, just in time to experience the snowiest winter in Minnesota in years. These tires cut through foot deep snow and stop on ice perfectly. They saved me from a crash when a guy pulled onto a street from a driveway and never saw me due to large piles of snow. They work as good as Michelin ice X, which I have on another car. Tires were delivered to a local Discount Tire ifor installation in 24 hours.

...They are by far the BEST performance Winter tires I've ever had... they are fantastic!...

This is my third set of Pirelli Scorpion Winters. They are by far the BEST performance Winter tires I’ve ever had. Have worn them on my Benz ML 350 and now my Benz GLA250 and they are fantastic! Truth be told one I used them all year long and loved them in the warm months as well. Can’t say enough. Also they look good, not at all like a winter tire. You won’t be disappointed!

...That said they grip like crazy in the dry/cold. Easily have more grip than the factory tires in warm temps...

First time going with a performance snow. If you don't have to drive on snow every day and drive assertively I'd highly recommend them. They pretty much matched my expectations my only complaint is we'll probably only get two seasons out of them (I powdered a set of ws80's in less than a season on a Miata so keep that in mind, I'd guess a normal user could get 4+ years). That said they grip like crazy in the dry/cold. Easily have more grip than the factory tires in warm temps. Historically my go to snow has been an altimax arctic which even while rally crossing and winter autocrossing last four or more years. These appear to wear more like a 200tw when driven like one. Nice sharp turn in which is expected when comparing to non performance snow tires. Since ground clearance isn't really an issue on the minivan I was willing to give up some deep snow traction for better dry/wet handling, would probably do it again.

...Noise factor is a bit of a presence as to be expected in any winter show tire due to tread pattern, etc., but otherwise they ride nice and comfy and provide decent traction on the snow and icy roads...

I put these winter tires on my vehicle immediately after taking delivery as the vehicle came stock with summer only tires and there was already snow and ice on the roads. As such they've mostly seen just cold snowy winter days of driving. So far I am pleased with them. I did a "minus 2" and dropped from the 21" summer tire / wheel combo to a 10" winter tire / wheel combo and the ride is as would be expected, less harsh than what the low profile summer set up would be. Noise factor is a bit of a presence as to be expected in any winter show tire due to tread pattern, etc., but otherwise they ride nice and comfy and provide decent traction on the snow and icy roads. Not perfect traction as I have had them break loose, but still decent assuming I am managing the throttle input to match the road conditions. When there have been dry days these tires are no slouch to spirited driving when I put the SQ5 into Dynamic and Sport mode and press down hard on the throttle. While they don't perform like a low profile summer tire, I don't expect them to either, yet still, they are quite fun to tool around on when the temp outside is 20 deg or lower. The rubber remains flexible and grippy and even with some aggressive cornering I am not seeing any abnormal wear on the shoulders of the tires. Looking forward to how they wear over the next couple of years of winters and if they'll continue to provide the good traction they are providing now.

...They are quiet, VERY smooth, yet handle as well as anything that has been on the respective vehicles...

I have had varied Pirelli Scorpion Tires and several vehicles now and they are all a FABULOUS value. The snows are great all rounders. If you lived in cool/cold climates, you could run these all year round. They are quiet, VERY smooth, yet handle (skip Barber trained racer) as well as anything that has been on the respective vehicles. Very comparable to Michelin Latitude snows at a MUCH better price. I currently have these snows on my RRS, a Lincoln MKC (they came off an Evoque) and that Evoque had the summer Scorpions which were a highlight of a vehicle with an atrocious transmission. Would I put these on my Evora--> NO! A luxury sedan where the emphasis was on winter surefootedness, --> absolutely!

...The only real negative I have is treadwear. It is awful. I have so far used these tires for 11,000 miles, and they are all down between 5 and 6/32nd tread...

This has turned out to be a nice sporting winter tire, which is quite different from more "serious" winter tires like the blizzaks. Steering response is quick and controlled. They are responsive enough that if someone were to swap my goodyear all seasons for these on a cold day, I would generally not be able to tell anything had changed. They "feel" just like a sporting all season tire, which is great. Outright grip on dry roads could be better, but as the roads here are constantly covered in salt from November through March, I'm really unable to tell if the grip is bad or if the roads are just dirty (I suspect grip is a little low). Still, these are by far the sportiest winter tires I've ever been on. In the snow and ice, they offer about 90% of the grip of my previous blizzaks. They are certainly better than any all season you'll ever use, but they lack the tenacious grip of a true one-purpose winter tire. Overall, I view it as an acceptable trade off. In the past, I used to dread the winter months, as my blizzaks represented the death of any sort of handling feel for 4 months through the winter. The flexible sidewalls delayed steering response by a huge margin, and it felt like my I had traded my Charger in for a 2001 Chrysler town and country. With the Pirelli's, the sporting feel ls no longer sacrificed. The only real negative I have is treadwear. It is awful. I have so far used these tires for a little over 11,000 miles, and they are all down between 5 and 6/32nd tread. Just about done. I realize I'm running these on a near 500 hp car, but I have certainly NOT been doing burnouts or hooning around...it's winter after all. I'd say 15000 miles is about the most you can expect out of these. Still, it's a darn fine 15000 miles. Good snow traction, good noise levels, excellent sporting feel, and limits high enough to keep things entertaining.
