The Assurance featuring Fuel Max Technology is Goodyear's mid-tier Passenger All-Season tire designed for the drivers of cars, coupes, vans and crossover vehicles looking for affordably priced tires offering long wear, wet traction and low rolling resistance as some of their top priorities. The Assurance Fuel Max is designed to provide year-round confidence in wet, dry and wintry weather conditions, including in light snow, as well as offers lower rolling resistance to enhance vehicle fuel economy over the tire's lifetime.

The Assurance Fuel Max molds a low rolling resistance all-season compound into a tread design featuring distinct zones. Inboard and outboard Dry Tread Zones feature strong shoulder blocks to enhance handling in dry conditions, while a central Wet Tread Zone features Dual Aquachannel grooves that evacuate water to promote traction in wet weather. A virtually continuous notched center rib combined with circumferential shoulder grooves blend dry road stability and even treadwear with traction in snowy conditions. The tire's internal structure features twin steel belts (H-speed rated sizes are reinforced with spirally wrapped nylon belt edge strips) on top of a polyester casing that enhances ride quality.

*Specific sizes featuring Fuel Max Technology are identified as such on the Sizes tab, as well as on the tire's Specs tab.

Customers Say

Feedback consistently shows the Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max delivers strong tread life, with many ratings in the 8-10 range, making it a reliable choice for everyday driving. Ride comfort earns praise for smoothness, though some note occasional road noise. Winter traction sees mixed results, with scores often dipping to 3-6 in icy conditions, suggesting limited confidence in severe winter weather. Wet traction performs well, with hydroplaning resistance frequently rated 7-10, while dry traction maintains solid 7-9 scores for confident handling. As a standard touring all-season tire, it balances everyday usability with dependable dry and wet performance, though drivers in snowy climates may want added winter capability.

I have found these do very well in rain and snow...

I bought these to replace Yokohama's, they were horrible. I have read these reviews and am surprised, these are quieter
Than the tires they replaced. I picked up 1 to 2 miles in the city and 4 miles on the road. I'm a retired police officer and
Am very safety conscious. I have found these do very well in rain and snow. I observed most complaints were from
Small foreign auto's, but on my van they do great and still look new after 25000 miles.

...Wet grip is the best of any tire that I have experienced... Last Spring we had over 3 months of almost daily rains and flooding. Three out of four seasons these tires are top tier...

OEM Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max wears incredibly well. At 35,000 I still have well over 1/2 tread remaining and near same performance as new. Wet grip is the best of any tire that I have experienced. Certain pavement patterns can get the tires to sing, but it isn't a common occurrence. I live in Michigan and the weather can be quite extreme in all seasons. Winter can be viscous, Last Spring we had over 3 months of almost daily rains and flooding. Three out of four seasons these tires are top tier. Winter over challenges these Goodyears. This tire is probably the worst performing cold weather tire that I have ever owned. Light snow is tough to navigate. Packed snow...if you have a slight incline, you can forget about getting any motion from a dead stop.

I do like these tires a lot. I just think that Winter conditions the Goodyear engineers forgot to include in the tread design. I would buy these tires again if I had another set of tires dedicated to Winter months.

...Wet and light snow performance has been very good even with more miles on the tires...

These tires came on my Honda as orginal equipment. Throughout their life they have performed as expected and I've had no issues with them at all. Cumulative fuel economy is 37.6 mpg with a 2.4L engine. I am not disappointed but cannot say if the tires contributed to this result. Wet and light snow performance has been very good even with more miles on the tires. I currently have 5/32 tread depth on them going into another winter season. I may replace them before the snow starts flying. No complaints with tire noise as others have mentioned. I would consider purchasing them again but will probably give Michelin a try.

I have over 120,000 miles on the original set of these tires. Tread wear is amazing . I drive mostly highway , but have some congested city driving and mountain canyons daily also. In dry weather the tires grip very well as I tend to zip around the mountain road curves around 70 mph. I have no complaints about these tires they have served me well.

...I have seen these tires chirp on dry pavement start with an anemic 4 cylinder...

This tire is on a company car. I have seen these tires chirp on a dry pavement start with an anemic 4 cylinder. More than .5 throttle in the rain and you will spin them. I had never seen tires this bad new. They have shoddy grip, poor wet response, and frankly between harder braking (to make up for lower rolling resistance, ha!) and a complete lack of faith in the tires and drive quality of the car, I fail to see how possibly getting a mile or so in mpg would be enough of an advantage to buy these tires. Maybe if you are highway only these may make sense, but consider this: with the 'traction control' on regular these tires are barely passable. Turn it off and you have massive spins, uncontrolled sliding in the wet, and handling that makes me wonder if saving about $1.15 a tank of gas in improved mileage is really worth unreliable tires.

...It was a fast, hot trip albeit very comfortable.

A very good stable tire. The product meets my requirements. I do not know how much this tire affected my gas milage. On a recent 5,000 mile across the southwest to the coast and back via a slightly more northern route in 100+ temperatures and at brisk speeds my mpg average was in the 27 mpg range. It was a fast, hot trip albeit very comfortable.

...The tires have been very quiet and provide a very comfortable ride on good roads...

Just 500 miles on this tire so far. Bought these on short notice while on vacation. Had a belt break on the old set of Yokohama Avids. So far, just dry pavement driving as we didn't see any rain to speak of on our way home. Replaced an H-rated tire with this T-rated tire--still trying to judge whether there's much of a difference. The tires have been very quiet and provide a very comfortable ride on good roads. The stopping distances are initially a little longer than the well-worn previous Yokohama's. Not sure if this will continue to be the case. The 2005 Odyssey provides a lot of feedback for the driver, so these tires seem to be holding up their part of the bargain. Will update this review in the coming months. The fuel economy aspect has not been monitored.

...After driving 500 miles on my Goodyears, I can say that they are more comfortable, the ride is a little smoother. The Goodyears are slightly quieter than the old tires were...

First of all, its important to remember that car tires come in various classification. High Performance and Ultra-High Performance tires are designed for folks who take high speed turns, want the tightest handling, and need to zoom around town. I have a 2004 Camry SE and I run High Performance tires on it. The Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max is NOT a High Performance or Ultra-High Performance tire. Its classified as a Passenger tire - which means the tire emphasizes ride comfort and general performance. In other words, this isn't a tire designed to come around turn 3 on the high side and try to pass Jimmie Johnson. RIP #3!

I put this Goodyear Fuel Max on my 2007 Hyundai Entourage minivan. This van is a twin of the Kia Sedona. My factory installed Michelin Enerfy LX4 wore out at 40k miles. After driving 500 miles on my Goodyears, I can say that they are more comfortable, the ride is a little smoother. The Goodyears are slightly quieter than the old tires were. FInally, the mileage really did improve a bit. My city mileage went from about 15.5 to 16.7 and my highway mileage seems to have gone from 23.5 to 25.6. Not bad at all! Since I've driven only 500 miles, I can't rate the treadlife. But I'll be back in a few years to tell you!

Would I recommend these tires for a minivan? Absolutely. Would I recommend these tires for a car? Well .. only on the condition that you accept the fact that this isn't a high performance tire. I would buy this tire again!

...The tires have some tread left after 10 years and 65000 miles, however there is some sidewall cracking which led us to replace these before absolutely required. Can't complain about 65,000 miles...

These were the original tires on our Prius C. We bought the car used with 20k miles on it, and have since put another 45k miles on it. The tires have some tread left after 10 years and 65000 miles, however there is some sidewall cracking which led us to replace these before absolutely required.

Can't complain about 65,000 miles, and we are considering buying these again, or the Michelin Energy Saver -- for the use a Prius sees, both seem like great tires.

...Snow traction is poor. Traction on hard-packed snow and/or ice is near zero...

Very disappointed with these tires. Barely three years old, and two tires are leaking air. One tire has a crooked tread, which made the car pull hard left when the tires were most recently rotated. Had to put everything back the way it was, and just rotate front-to-front and rear-to rear, to stop the pull. Wet traction is poor. Snow traction is poor. Traction on hard-packed snow and/or ice is near zero. Every set of Goodyear tires prior to this one has been good to excellent, but these tires are very poor. Can't wait to get rid of them.

I saved approximately 2-3 mpgs with these tires, which isn't bad. They arent going to change your gas mileage super significantly. However, whenever there was wet conditions, the tires were absolutely atrocious. I could not accelerate too hard at all even at a stoplight with a normal pedal touch. otherwise the tires would completely brake loose. I recall this one experience when i was waiting for a light to change and when it turned green i lightly accelerated forward. but i didnt go anywhere and looked down at the tach and was at 4 grand standing still. i lack confidence driving on any wet roads with these tires. they are incredibly unsafe and have terrible wear around the outer tread. would not buy again, 2-3 mpgs is not worth my life or someone elses.
