The Assurance featuring Fuel Max Technology is Goodyear's mid-tier Passenger All-Season tire designed for the drivers of cars, coupes, vans and crossover vehicles looking for affordably priced tires offering long wear, wet traction and low rolling resistance as some of their top priorities. The Assurance Fuel Max is designed to provide year-round confidence in wet, dry and wintry weather conditions, including in light snow, as well as offers lower rolling resistance to enhance vehicle fuel economy over the tire's lifetime.
The Assurance Fuel Max molds a low rolling resistance all-season compound into a tread design featuring distinct zones. Inboard and outboard Dry Tread Zones feature strong shoulder blocks to enhance handling in dry conditions, while a central Wet Tread Zone features Dual Aquachannel grooves that evacuate water to promote traction in wet weather. A virtually continuous notched center rib combined with circumferential shoulder grooves blend dry road stability and even treadwear with traction in snowy conditions. The tire's internal structure features twin steel belts (H-speed rated sizes are reinforced with spirally wrapped nylon belt edge strips) on top of a polyester casing that enhances ride quality.
*Specific sizes featuring Fuel Max Technology are identified as such on the Sizes tab, as well as on the tire's Specs tab.

Tire Rack Test Results Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max
Eco-Focused All-Season Tires: Do They Deliver on the Promise?(03:22)
Tires with an emphasis on low rolling resistance for fuel efficiency are becoming available in sizes to fit a wide variety of mainstream vehicles. One of the most recent is Bridgestone's Ecopia EP422 that employs technologies aimed at reducing fuel consumption and the tire's impact on the environment. But does it perform on the road, too?
Customers think the Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max delivers excellent treadwear (9-10 ratings dominate) and a smooth, quiet ride, with many praising its comfort for daily driving. Winter traction shows mixed results, with some customers noting limited confidence in snow and ice despite its all-season design. Wet traction earns consistent praise for secure handling and hydroplaning resistance, while dry traction receives strong marks for stability and responsiveness. As a standard touring all-season tire, it aligns well with everyday use, offering reliable mileage and predictable performance in typical conditions-though those in harsh winter climates may want to consider dedicated winter tires.

...These tires feel secure both on wet and on dry pavement...
I put Goodyear Fuelmax tires on my Toyota Camry Hybrid. My immedediate response was relief that the Fuelmax also provided a great feel and ride. I was concerned what trade offs I had made with purchasing a new series tire before user reviews were very available. I drive a hybrid and am not looking for sport handling or track performance. These tires feel secure both on wet and dry pavement. The ride and road feel are as good as I have had on any previeous tire, EL-400 on this car and a line of Michelins on other cars. My mileage did not drop a bit, to my surprise. The worn out OEM tires had low roling resistance due to most of the tread being gone. And with most of the tread being gone, you actually get more revs per mile which registers more miles on your odometer. This makes a worn tire appear to get further improved gas mileage. So with the Fuelmax I was thrilled to record the same 42 mpg that I have been getting all summer in my Camry. I really am waiting to see the winter driving performance. I will provide an update as soon I get some winter weather to put them to the test.

Great tire. Comfort oriented, not high-performance, but with the lower aspect-ratio of tires found on most newer cars (55 series on my Maxima) there's less of a sacrifice for a smooth quiet ride-- which is this tires strong point. Road imperfections are smoothed over nicely, and road noise is muted. Overall, very good for this price range. Wet traction is also very secure. Dry traction is strong, as is cornering grip-- though not sporting by any means. I do not measure my fuel economy, nor did I buy this tire for it's benefit, so I cannot comment on that regard. (Though I wouldn't expect a substantial gain if I did. Too many variables in daily driving for this to be a significant statistic.) Tread is wearing evenly, but I rotate every oil change, and ensure proper PSI and alignment. (99% of reviews complaining of uneven wear fail to do this, even if they claim otherwise. Modern name-brand tires wear evenly unless there is user neglect.) Overall, I recommend this tire. The price is good compared to other tires available in low(er) profile sizes for passenger cars, and it delivers a comfortable quiet ride. Made in the USA too!

...Coming from a 94 Corolla wagon, that I ran for 18 years and 430,000 miles, no matter what tire I had on that car, it wouldn't stay on the road, particularly when wet and snow. My first encounter with snow on the Prius, I was astounded with the stability. Rain as well...
Saw the bad reviews and must report these tires are the best I've owned. In my lifetime I figure I have driven over 850,000 miles. 100 miles a day round trip to work for 40 years, mostly highway. I run these made in Japan OEM tires, on a 2012 Prius. Coming from a 94 Corolla wagon, that I ran for 18 years and 430,000 miles, no matter what tire I had on that car, it wouldn't stay on the road, particularly when wet and snow. My first encounter with snow on the Prius, I was astounded with the stability. Rain as well. Wear is good, I rotate around 6-7K and use Michelin X-Ice 3 in the heavy winter months. I run the tire at max pressure and last summer recorded a tank at 61.2 MPG over 400 miles. The conditions to achieve this were ideal; temperature, wind, traffic, no rain. Normally get 57 MPG summer, and this past NE winter average was maybe 46, with the X-Ice. Didn't do accurate figuring, relied on the overstated car computation.
I have heard some thumping when the car sits for an extended period, goes away in a few miles.
The irony is I just bought the wife a 2014 Accord fitted with the same tire. At the time, I figured they should be pretty good, but made in USA. Don't know if that makes a difference. I will monitor this situation closely.

I have over 120,000 miles on the original set of these tires. Tread wear is amazing . I drive mostly highway , but have some congested city driving and mountain canyons daily also. In dry weather the tires grip very well as I tend to zip around the mountain road curves around 70 mph. I have no complaints about these tires they have served me well.

...I was MIGHTY impressed in emergency manuvering at 60 miles per hour on the highway... NO spin out NO tail fish of any kind. Wow...
My previous tires were Goodyear Fortera. These were very confortable quiet tires. I was curious about the Fuel Max - gas prices being what it is. With Fuel Max, I first felt all the bumps in the road. It takes some getting used to them. BUT, I was MIGHTY impressed in an emergency manuvering at 60 miles per hour on the highway. I had to change lanes in a split sec in order to avoid a collision. The car in front of me for whatever reason missed their exit and slowed down to a stop in front of me - on an non exit lane waiting for the traffic to clear so that they could exit. I saw the situation at the last second. NO time to stop. the only way to avoid the impact was to swirve around them by changing lanes. Now I have done this manuvering in the past driving a Chevy Impala wit brand new tires I bought from BJ ( dont remember the brand name)the results were scary. I span out of control and made not one but 2 almost 180 degrees. I wound up facing on coming traffic. I had my little boy at the time in the back sit. Needless to say it was a hair raising experience. No one got hurt, no impact. To see the same thing happening again I said to myself, self, here we go again. This time however, the car just took everything in stride. NO spin out NO tail fish of any kind. Wow.
THANK YOU GoodYear engineers, you saved me from a potential disaster.
I will buy these tires AGAIN.

Just 500 miles on this tire so far. Bought these on short notice while on vacation. Had a belt break on the old set of Yokohama Avids. So far, just dry pavement driving as we didn't see any rain to speak of on our way home. Replaced an H-rated tire with this T-rated tire--still trying to judge whether there's much of a difference. The tires have been very quiet and provide a very comfortable ride on good roads. The stopping distances are initially a little longer than the well-worn previous Yokohama's. Not sure if this will continue to be the case. The 2005 Odyssey provides a lot of feedback for the driver, so these tires seem to be holding up their part of the bargain. Will update this review in the coming months. The fuel economy aspect has not been monitored.

I purchased these tires after 48k miserable miles with Kumho tires on the vehicle (very loud). The Goodyear tire feels comfortable and handles very well. The ONLY problem I have with this tire is the noise! One review stated the noise starts as a low rumble, and as speed increases so does the noise level. This is exactly what is happening to me. Not happy with the noise. I would venture to say it probably has something to do with buying a fairly cheap car. Since I don't have a Cadillac, I guess I will have to suffer with the noise. I am hoping the noise will dissipate as the tires wear a little (I doubt it; and it will probably only get worse). I will write another review after 5,000 miles.

...I was not looking for performance tires but was leaned towards comfortable/quite driving and boy am I glad I purchased these tires...
Purchased set of 4 for a Toyota Camry (215/60/R16) this size is made in Chile, and had to RMA all 4 due to bulges & vibration, Goodyear replaced with set of Comfortreds and all problems went away. I wish I could have stayed with the FuelMaxes, very quiet and comfortable but vibration and bulges was just intolerable.
When FuelMaxes were taken off the rims, I inspected the interior of the tires with my finger and found that these tires seem to have three ply joint points at three different places, this might have caused the vibration(balancing issue) as every joint produced a big bump on the inside of the tire, but this is just an assumption, I am not a tire expert.
I recently decided to try FuelMaxes again, this time a set of 4 installed on my Jetta TDI (205/55/R16) this size made in the USA . I was not looking for performance tires but was leaned towards comfortable/quite driving and boy am I glad I purchased these tires. I only have 500 miles on them; I will try to upgrade the review once I put more miles on them.
...It was a fast, hot trip albeit very comfortable.
A very good stable tire. The product meets my requirements. I do not know how much this tire affected my gas milage. On a recent 5,000 mile across the southwest to the coast and back via a slightly more northern route in 100+ temperatures and at brisk speeds my mpg average was in the 27 mpg range. It was a fast, hot trip albeit very comfortable.

...They wear really well, but no way will I put up with the noise for as long as these tires will last...
Well, I went from bad to worse when I replaced the noisy Kumho tires with these Goodyears. They are beyond noisy -- even around town, they howl. By the time you hit 40 mph, the noise is defeaning. They're also badly cupped, despite my having rotated them (and rotated them again). They wear really well, but no way will I put up with the noise for as long as these tires will last. Hasta la vista, baby!

...After 63,000 miles, I still have 4/32 on the back and 6/32 on the front. They are wearing evenly...
I drive 50K+ a year and needed a tire that would stand up to that. After 63,000 miles, I still have 4/32 on the back and 6/32 on the front. They are wearing evenly. They are not the best in wet/snow conditions so slower driving is necessary. I did notice about a 2 mpg increase with these tires. We just put a set on a 08 Highlander and also noticed the fuel increase. The dealer changed 3 out of the 4 tires a bought because of a balancing issue and "thumping" felt from new. It helped a bit but have always had that thumping. For the price, you can't go wrong.

...My tires are grippy on both wet and dry pavement and they are wearing good so far, considering my commute is about 86 miles (round trip) per day on highways or rural open roads...
I had four Cooper CS4 Lifeliners, which was decent tire, on my 2007 Toyota Solara SE Sport V6 when it came time for replacement. I saw the ads for the Assurance Fuel Max, read the reviews and decided to roll the dice and take a chance. These tires are much more quiet than the Coopers and my fuel mileage on the highway went from 34 MPG with the Coopers to 36-37 MPG! My tires are grippy on both wet and dry pavement and they are wearing good so far, considering my commute is about 86 miles (round trip) per day on either highways or rural open roads. If these hold up well, I will be back for another set.

Winter traction ratings for the Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max are unimpressive, with many scores between 0-6. Customers report slippery conditions, getting stuck, and a lack of snow traction despite its all-season intent. Some note sketchy handling in deeper snow or ice.

...Winter traction with these tires is marginal at best and not good enough to be trusted with your wife and grandkids driving alone...
I've been a Goodyear tire fan for many years. I have purchased four sets of them in the last three years, two each for my Buick and the wife's Ford van. The tripple treads are great performance tires and would be great for the driver who wears tires out in twenty thousand miles or less. After that mileage they are junk no matter how much tread is left! I exchanged them for the fuel max tires on both vehicles. They are nice riding tires and so quiet my wife almost got a speeding ticket by not realizing how fast she was going. Handling is fair, not nearly so possitive as the tripple treads were. If you drive on gravel roads at all DO NOT get these tires! The wear factor is through the roof plus the rubber compound is such that any little sharp object or stone will work it's way through the tread until you get a leak. If you get these tires, have your dealer fill them with anti-leak jell because you will need it sooner or later. There tread carcass area seems very thin on these tires. That is probably what makes them ride smooth and flex better for less rolling resistance. My wife's van has fifeteen thousand miles on the tires and they will need replacement before winter comes. Winter traction with these tires is marginal at best and not good enough to be trusted with your wife and grandkids driving alone. These tire lessons have soured me on Goodyears. Loyalty only goes so far! Buy with caution and low expectations.

...Winter over challenges these Goodyears. This tire is the worst performing cold weather tire that I have ever owned. Light snow is tough to navigate...
OEM Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max wears incredibly well. At 35,000 I still have well over 1/2 tread remaining and near same performance as new. Wet grip is the best of any tire that I have experienced. Certain pavement patterns can get the tires to sing, but it isn't a common occurrence. I live in Michigan and the weather can be quite extreme in all seasons. Winter can be viscous, Last Spring we had over 3 months of almost daily rains and flooding. Three out of four seasons these tires are top tier. Winter over challenges these Goodyears. This tire is probably the worst performing cold weather tire that I have ever owned. Light snow is tough to navigate. Packed snow...if you have a slight incline, you can forget about getting any motion from a dead stop.
I do like these tires a lot. I just think that Winter conditions the Goodyear engineers forgot to include in the tread design. I would buy these tires again if I had another set of tires dedicated to Winter months.

...More than .5 throttle in the rain and you will spin them... with the 'traction control' on regular these tires are barely passable. Turn it off and you have massive spins, uncontrolled sliding in the wet, and handling that makes me wonder if saving about $1.15 a tank of gas in improved mileage is really worth unreliable tires.
This tire is on a company car. I have seen these tires chirp on a dry pavement start with an anemic 4 cylinder. More than .5 throttle in the rain and you will spin them. I had never seen tires this bad new. They have shoddy grip, poor wet response, and frankly between harder braking (to make up for lower rolling resistance, ha!) and a complete lack of faith in the tires and drive quality of the car, I fail to see how possibly getting a mile or so in mpg would be enough of an advantage to buy these tires. Maybe if you are highway only these may make sense, but consider this: with the 'traction control' on regular these tires are barely passable. Turn it off and you have massive spins, uncontrolled sliding in the wet, and handling that makes me wonder if saving about $1.15 a tank of gas in improved mileage is really worth unreliable tires.

Eco-Focused All-Season Tires: Do They Deliver on the Promise? - Winter Update(01:54)
Many passenger and touring all-season tires with an emphasis on low rolling resistance offer very good fuel economy. But the question is, how well do they perform in everyday conditions? Especially in the snow and on the ice. We found out in Sweden when we did some winter testing on these tires.
Eco-Friendly All-Season Tires - How Does Performance Measure Up?(03:56)
Eco-focused tires were initially made in sizes for drivers of hybrid and ultra-efficient vehicles. Today, a growing number are available in a wider variety of sizes in an effort to gain widespread use on more vehicles.
Our tests results show what impact these tires have on fuel economy and how they perform in everyday conditions.
When Round and Black Becomes Lean and Green(04:18)
Can eco-friendly, low rolling resistance tires make a difference in fuel economy, driving costs and the environment?
Tire Rack arranged to get a small fleet of the 2009 2nd generation Toyota Prius hybrids to test low rolling resistance tires. The Goodyear Integrity O.E. tire was the baseline we compared to other tire choices for the Prius. Tires tested included eco-friendly aftermarket tires for hybrid and fuel-efficient compact cars as well as the Goodyear Assurance ComforTred which prioritizes ride comfort and long wear over fuel efficiency.
