The Wrangler HP is Goodyear's Street/Sport Truck All-Season light truck tire developed for Original Equipment use on sporty pickups and sport utility vehicles like the Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Avalanche, Dodge Ram, Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo and Land Rover Discovery 4.6 HSE. The Wrangler HP was developed to blend on-road performance handling with year-round all-season traction, even in light snow.

The Wrangler HP features a symmetric tread design with wide outer shoulders and large intermediate blocks to provide responsive handling and traction on dry roads. Wide circumferential and lateral tread grooves help evacuate water from under the tire's footprint to resist hydroplaning while strategically placed sipes enhance all-weather grip. The tire's internal structure features twin steel belts (H-speed rated sizes reinforced with nylon cap plies) that stabilize the tread area to boost handling and high-speed capability. Depending upon application, the Wrangler HP features a polyester cord body to provide appropriate strength and enhance ride quality.

Goodyear Reviews

Ratings show mixed results for the Goodyear Wrangler HP. Dry traction stands out with scores in the 7-8 range, offering reliable grip and stability for street-focused driving. Wet traction shows inconsistency, with some ratings dipping to 3-4, raising concerns about hydroplaning resistance. Winter performance struggles, with many scores below 5, limiting confidence in snow or ice. Comfort receives mixed feedback, with harsh ride quality noted in lower scores (1-4 range). Treadwear divides opinions-some report decent longevity (7-8), but frequent 1-3 scores suggest premature wear concerns. While capable in dry conditions, its all-season versatility is hampered by wet and winter limitations.

These are great tires for a place where it does not rain. I live in Louisiana, so that lets me out. I admit I drive too fast in the rain, but I think these things look for a chance to hydroplane. On a dry highway they are very responsive and saved me from a sure death when an old guy entered the Xway up an off ramp, headon. They are reasonably quiet and comfortable. I have ordered a set of Bridgestone Revos from TireRack to replace them, and I am going a little wider on the tread.

...Overall, this is a good dry weather tire. I have used it off-road where it performed alright in four wheel drive.

My Cherokee Classic came with Wrangler HPs 225/70/16s and so far I have 46,000 miles on them. I could easily make it to 50,000 but they are being replaced by Bridgestone A/T Duelers, which were delivered today. I do a lot of highway driving and at 5,000 miles I hit something that punctured the passenger front tire. Due to the puncture being on the sidewall, it couldnt be patched. Goodyear nails me for $167. These HPs were never worth $167. At 10K miles, the rear driver side tire gets a nail in it and it gets a patch. The puncture resistance of these tires leaves a little to be desired. Overall, this is a good dry weather tire. I have used it off-road where it performed alright in four wheel drive. We get a lot of snow here - this isnt a good snow tire. Many times I found myself reaching for the 4x4 lever with only an inch or so on the road. I just couldnt keep the rear end from waggin around. If youre looking at that $56 price, thinking "Wow, those are really cheap", I suggest you look at the Bridgestone A/T Duelers ($81). Theres got to be a reason these tires would free fall from $167 to $56 bucks. Read the other reviews on these tires, I think youll find Im one of the lucky ones.

Unfortunately, these tires came equipped on my Ram. Without a doubt this is the worst tire ever made. Absolutely no wet weather traction at all. Once the pavement is damp, all traction is lost. I actually had the rear end snap out from under me the other day while going around a gentle curve at 30mph. Thankfully, there was no one in the opposing lane, cause I would have creamed them. Goodyear and Chrysler are setting themselves up for a lawsuit when someone finally dies as a direct result of these tires. Also, these things won't stay balanced. I had to have it rebalanced right after delivery, around 6000 miles, and now at 13000 miles they're out of balance again.

...Dry traction is acceptable, but wet traction is terrible... The ram has more power than the Ford so it is even more noticable how poor the wet traction is...

I have this tire on my ram from the factory. It is a poor tire. Dry traction is acceptable, but wet traction is terrible. It is a quiet tire but don't expect more than 40k out of it, max. I also had these tires on a 2006 F-150, same size as ram 275/60/20, on custom wheels and they were just as bad. I didn't realize how bad they were until I put the factory hankooks back on the F-150 to realize what I was missing. The ram has more power than the Ford so it is even more noticable how poor the wet traction is. I have had this tire in all weather conditions on both trucks and am not impressed with them. I would not buy this tire again, and am disappointed that I was forced on them by Dodge with my new truck.

...Traction on wet roads is scary at times with noticeable slipping...

Tires "cupped" at about 18k miles and road noise is terrible. I had tires rotated and vehicle aligned and rechecked to make sure it was aligned. Traction on wet roads is "scary" at times with noticeable slipping. These were OEM tires on my 2012 Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie. They have not performed to my expectations and I am looking elsewhere to replace tires now.

...Its fine on dry pavement, though noisy, but terrible in snow, ice, rain and mud.

This is a lousy tire and a poor selection for any SUV (OEM on my vehicle). Its fine on dry pavement, though noisy, but terrible in snow, ice, rain and mud. We get a fair amount of that here. Same cupping problem as others have noted, even after rotating per tire dealers suggestion. Local Goodyear dealer would not replace. No more Goodyears for me and will replace these tires with Bridgestone Revo.

...The real problems for these tires are in winter conditions. I live in New England so winters give us a generous helping of in snow and ice. These tires are simply not intended for winter driving...

My Ram came stock with these tires and overall I am not very satisfied with these tires. The tires look great on the 20 inch rims and handle extremely well on dry pavement. They also corner well and deliver a fairly decent ride. Tread wear is very good as I have almost 65000 miles on the tires and dont try to burn them off the rim at every stop light or sign. Wet traction is Ok at low speeds but give me a very uneasy feeling at highway speeds. If you are at a complete stop on wet roads and brush the gas pedal to hard, look out! It does not take much to break these tires free! The real problems for these tires are in winter conditions. I live in New England so winters give us a generous helping of snow and ice. These tires are simply not intended for winter drivng. My hemi is a 4x4 and I have the "anti-spin" rear axle which should work well in snowy/icy conditions with any tire. "WRONG!" I have gone through 4 winters of light and deep snow with a few hundred pounds of weight in the bed to realize these tires dont cut it. Every trip to and from work was a heart pounding nail biting adventure. The truck really feels like it is floating along side to side back and fourth. I had to back down hills several times in deeper snow do to amazingly poor traction. Now that is embarrissing!!! Over-all, if you live in a warm climate with no snow this is a great tire. For anyone living in areas that see those flakes fly, please consider another tire option. If not, Ill see you at the bottom of the hill! :-0

...I didn't feel comfortable driving in even light snow with these tires. Maybe the Hemi engine had too much torque and I had too heavy of a foot? But it fish tailed real easy...

These 20" Wrangler HP tires were OEM equipment on my 2005 Hemi Ram 1500 Quad Cab 2WD. They were quiet and had a nice ride and OK dry traction. I used the truck to pull a 24' enclosed car trailer and a 1971 Challenger R/T to car shows a couple of times a year. Otherwise I commuted to work with it when the weather was good. I didn't feel comfortable driving in even light snow with these tires. Maybe the Hemi engine had too much torque and I had too heavy of a foot? But it fish tailed real easy. Even in rain it was sketchy at best. For kicks I would get on it leaving the car wash and I could make the truck go down the street almost sideways. Once I did do a 360 in heavy rain on a city street and I was playing with it. When I wasn't fooling around with the truck, I wasn't 100% confident I wouldn't accidently lose it and hydroplane. As far as wear goes, they were wearing pretty good when I traded the truck in with 36,000 miles on a Charger R/T. I would estimate the tires had about 50% or more of their tread left. The Good Years on my Charger were Comfort Treads and they were a good tire. I later replaced those with Continental Contitracs which was also an excellent tire. I have a 04 Ram Rumble Bee 4X4 now with 20" wheels. No I wouldn't put these GY Wranglers on it down the road. It has Coopers on it. They grip great, but are noisy. Happy motoring!

Man, are these tires ever noisy as they wear down. Even with rotation they remain noisy. Poor grip in the rain, prone to hydro-planing; the grip is almost non-existent in the snow and gets worse as they wear. For a permanent 4x4 these are not the right tires. Ill probably go for the Geolander all seasons next.

...The tires complain during hard cornering, but are predictable...

These tires came with my 2001 Dodge Durango R/T new. Now, nearly 40,000 miles later they have about 3/32 treadwear left, so I am looking for a replacement before winter. This is an AWD vehicle with anti-slip, and the 5.9L V8 has a hard time breaking any of the 4 wide tires loose on dry pavement - dry traction is good. The tires complain during hard cornering, but are predictable. However, as the tires have wear - hydroplaning has become a problem - duh! But, no tire spinning in wet weather when getting this 5000lb. behemoth moving from a stop. Snow traction is acceptable, ice traction is not.

...Nothing positive I can say about this tire expect for ride comfort...

These Goodyear tires came stock on my truck and I have put over 10,000 miles on them. Nothing positive I can say about this tire expect for ride comfort. I live in Kansas were weather is ever changing. I recently put these tires through their first snow test, about a foot of snow and ice. These tires did horrible. 4X4 bailed me out of several problems that should have been been handled in two wheel drive. From fresh snow, to packed snow, to ice these tires failed me. They had no traction what so ever. I had a friend who got his car stuck and I attempted to pull him out but couldn't even get traction to move him an inch.

As far as wet traction goes, I have nothing positive there as well. I pull my boat in the warm months and this mean frequent use of the boat ramp. For anyone that has experience with these you know that ramps get wet. Many ramps I use dont have the "ribbed" concrete that help with traction. This again means that the 4X4 comes into play.

Don't buy these tires!!

...This performance is the direct result of the poor tread wear: 4/32 at 28k miles. Had to replace at 28800 due to a broken cord in the left front, and replaced with BFG Rugged Terrain...

As original equipment on the truck, these weren't too bad for ride quality and handling. However, this winter allowed the Goodyear's to show their true colors; even the slightest bit of snow called for a switch to All Wheel Drive, and deep snow required 4-Wheel Drive. This performance is the direct result of the poor tread wear: 4/32 at 28k miles. Had to replace at 28800 due to a broken cord in the left front, and replaced with BFG Rugged Terrain. Goodyear has again shown to be a poor tire choice.

We purchased our 2005 Landrover LR3 after driving our 1999 Discovery II for three years and it came with Wrangler HP tires on it. After 13,000 Miles I am shopping for new tires since there is not enough tread to go through another New England winter. More than 50% of the tread is gone and we will be lucky to get 20,000 miles out of them. I went to the dealer with this problem and he said we were one of the lucky ones to get that many miles out of them. I have had trouble with goodyear tires not lasting before on various vehicles (corvette, Ford F150 and Mitsubishi Eclipse) I will not ever purchase a set of goodyears as replacements!!! Unluckily I am sure I will have to replace one or two in the future. I would not recommend these tires to anyone.
