The Proxes R1R is Toyo's Extreme Performance Summer tire developed for driving enthusiasts looking for capabilities beyond normal street tire limitations. Developed from Toyo's years of grueling on-track experience, Proxes R1R tires are engineered to elevate performance in dry and wet conditions. However, like all Extreme Performance Summer tires, these tires are not intended to be serviced, stored nor driven in near- and below-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice. It's also essential these tires be stored indoors at temperatures maintained above 15 degrees F.

The Proxes R1R molds a high-grip, silica-reinforced tread compound into an 8/32" to 9/32" deep directional Arrowhead tread design featuring an extra wide footprint to blend handling and performance during spirited dry-road driving with traction in wet conditions. The leading edges of the arrowheads are tapered to stabilize center block movement to reduce the possibility of irregular wear. Multi-Width EVAC Channels improve water evacuation from the center of the tread design to help increase hydroplaning resistance, while their narrow widths at the shoulders increase block size to enhance steering response and maintain block stiffness during aggressive braking.

The tire's internal structure features an advanced competition-inspired modified radial construction for driving hard through the corners and accelerating quickly onto the straight-aways. Twin high-tensile steel belts reinforced with spirally wrapped jointless cap and edge plies control the footprint size and shape. Jointless beads anchor the tires to the wheels while a high-modulus bead compound and slightly angled body plies work together to stabilize the sidewall.

NOTE:

At the end of 2014, Toyo changed the Uniform Tire Quality Grade (UTQG) of their Proxes R1R Extreme Performance Summer tire to reflect a 200 Treadwear rating.

UTQG ratings for Treadwear, Traction and Temperature are based on tests conducted by tire manufacturers and reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). These regulations allow tire manufacturers to under-rate their tires' capabilities, but prohibit over-rating them. UTQG ratings are required to be printed on their labels and branded on tire sidewalls.

Toyo assigned the 140 Treadwear rating to match the UTQG Treadwear rating required by competition rules when the Proxes R1R was introduced, however subsequent Toyo wear data revealed the tire line earned a 200 Treadwear rating.

With some competition rules now requiring higher UTQG Treadwear ratings, Toyo decided it was time to officially change the Proxes R1R line's rating to accurately reflect its capabilities.

*In order to help drivers confirm which tire they will receive, we have identified the tires by listing their Treadwear rating on the product Specs tab.

Toyo Proxes R1R Reviews

Customer experiences showcase the Toyo Proxes R1R as a strong contender for dry performance, with enthusiasts praising its "grippy" compound, precise cornering, and track-ready responsiveness. Many highlight exceptional dry traction for autocross, HPDE, and spirited driving, though some note grip fades when overheated during extended sessions. Wet conditions reveal confident handling on damp roads but hydroplaning risks in standing water. Treadwear receives mixed feedback-users report 5,000-15,000 miles depending on use, with track days accelerating wear. While soft sidewalls raise durability concerns for street driving, the R1R's balance of predictable limits and wet-capable tread design makes it a favored choice for performance-focused drivers prioritizing grip over longevity.

Have driven in heavy rain a few times and have had with no issues whatsoever, these tires do an awesome job handling wet conditions...

Have had the Toyo Proxes R1R's for a few weeks and have driven around 200 miles. I purchased the 205/50/16 size. This is my first time owning performance summer tires. I have an 89 Prelude SI with an H22 engine swap. I have been driving mountain roads. These tires grip the road very, very well! Have driven in heavy rain a few times and have had with no issues whatsoever, these tires do an awesome job handling wet conditions. The ride is very comfortable. Highly recommend these Toyo Proxes R1R's.

...Their performance on wet roads and even greasy post-rain roads is phenomenal. Shortly after purchasing them, I went on a 'spirited cruise' through greasy mountain roads behind a bunch of Supras. Needless to say, these tires allowed me to stay right on their bumpers the whole run...

For me, the Toyo Proxes R1R tires are the way to go. They're a fantastic tire to learn how to drive on. I've had a set on my Integra Type-R for a little over a year. I originally purchased them because they were rated for rain. Their performance on wet roads and even greasy post-rain roads is phenomenal. Shortly after purchasing them, I went on a 'spirited cruise' through greasy mountain roads behind a bunch of Supras. Needless to say, these tires allowed me to stay right on their bumpers the whole run. Everyone had traction issues that day except for me. They're great in the wet and even better in the dry. If you live somewhere which experiences a lot of rain, these are perfect.

Customers scoring 9s and 10s praise the Toyo Proxes R1R's outstanding dry traction, highlighting exceptional grip for track days, autocross, and spirited driving. Many note its "sticky" compound delivers predictable cornering, confident high-speed stability, and responsive handling even under aggressive acceleration. ...Dry road conditions are incredible. The tires bite hard, warm up fast, don't seem to overheat very quickly, and continue to provide progressive traction...

I use these tires on my turbo '96 miata for mostly autocross, HPDE, the occasional track day, and of course driving to/from the events (occasional daily duties when weather permits). Coming from the Falken 615k, I would say the R1R's are in an entirely different league. The only real downside to the R1R (aside from cold temperatures, they will turn into bricks) that I can find is if you manage to drive into standing water. They WILL hydroplane. Barring that scenario, the traction is very progressive and communicative in dry or wet conditions. Wet roads leaving a little to be desired, the tires get a little slippery, but easily controllable. If it's cold AND wet, may be worth staying home... Dry road conditions are incredible. The tires bite hard, warm up fast, don't seem to overheat very quickly, and continue to provide progressive traction. After 5,000 miles (hard miles) the tires still look almost brand new. At this rate, I may be able to finish this season and continue into next season on this same set. Strongly recommended. These tires are designed to go fast, I am not going to comment on ride quality or NVH or other things that don't matter when you're setting fast times... If fast times are your goal, these are the tires for you. I don't think you're going to find anything better short of a true R-compound with under 100TW or a full racing slick. Get out there and go racing.

...These tires have taken everything I've thrown at them from cornering to hard launches. It loves roundabouts and twisty country roads...

I've had these tires on my mk3 supra with the 2JZ swap. Making 447hp to the wheels. These tires have taken everything I've thrown at them from cornering to hard launches. It loves roundabouts and twisty country roads. I've had the ------- kick out on me once and that's only cause I was trying.

I'm not losing speed waiting for these tires to find grip. The car has been at the shop a few times over the winter and sat outside which is not recommended but they haven't let me down a bit. My next set will be stored proper during the winter and I'll try to update if there is any benefits worth speaking of. Overall, I love these tires for street and fast back roads driving. Have been recommending them since

...Dry grip with some heat in them is great on the road too...

Just ordered a replacement set, that should say enough.
Run these in the street and for wet track days. Ran them up to 100mph in the rain at Watkins Glen. They cut through standing water well and are pliant enough for steet use. Dry grip with some heat in them is great on the road too. Great tire

...On a mini the fronts wear out twice as fast so set will likely be done by 10k with rotations front to back... R1R is a great compromise street/track tire with decent wear for 200 tread rating...

Use for long distance commuting and road course track days. The tire is very loud when new, like wheel bearing about to fail loud. Considered getting ear plugs for the first 500 miles. Sound gets better with some wear but never goes away, likely due to the directional tread. Wet grip is very good but not the best at hydroplane resistance. Directional tread tends to push water forward versus out; at low speed I've had a wall of water pushed up and forward go directly into the windshield. Track performance is very good, set to 30psi cold and it warms up nicely, wears evenly with no balling or tearing. On a mini the fronts wear out twice as fast so set will likely be done by 10k with rotations front to back. Steering feedback is really good vs stock Michelin greenX. The greenX will give 52mpg hwy on this mini, that drops to around 38mpg with the R1R's but I would not touch a track with the michelins. R1R is a great compromise street/track tire with decent wear for 200 tread rating. The dry grip in corners is absolutely amazing and don't give up much if anything in the wet. Mount them on light wheels and have fun. Recommended!

...Very surprised with how many miles I got out of these tires based on the tread wear rating...

These tires are amazing. Had them on the car for almost two years before needing replacement and that was with daily driving it to and from work 70 miles a day and doing canyon runs. Very surprised with how many miles I got out of these tires based on the tread wear rating. I highly recommend these tires and will definitely purchase another set.

...Im conservative on ?burning rubber? as to how I have a little under half life left with milage...

It says do not let get below 45 deg (f), and they are not joking, but I still have them on as a daily set and I have had no problems. Im conservative on ¿burning rubber¿ as to how I have a little under half life left with milage, but during the summer time I am driving on super glue, I almost have to intentionally lose grip with these. I have taken these on 4 800 mile long trips and a 1600 mile trip and have had no issues, dirt courses and grass fields are no issue for these bad boys either, I look forward to my next set!
