The AVID ENVigor ZPS (Zero Pressure System) is Yokohama's High Performance All-Season run-flat radial developed to meet the year-round driving needs of sports car, coupe and sedan drivers. With the ability to provide temporary extended mobility for a distance of up to 50 miles at 50 mph in the event a puncture allows complete air pressure loss, AVID ENVigor ZPS tires are designed to combine performance, comfort and treadlife along with year-round traction, even on light snow-covered roads.
The AVID ENVigor ZPS radial's all-season silica tread compound is molded into an optimized contact patch featuring a five-rib directional pattern that blends performance with all-season traction. Linked shoulder blocks and a continuous tapered center rib increase tread rigidity to improve straight-line tracking and handling. Independent intermediate blocks, angled grooves and adaptive 3D sipes enhance wet traction, help resist hydroplaning and promote traction in light snow.
The AVID ENVigor ZPS radial's internal structure features twin steel belts reinforced by jointless nylon belt covers and belt edge strips that are spirally wound to provide long-term integrity under demanding conditions while they reduce tire weight and promote more uniform ride quality. Two rayon cord body plies help provide predictable handling while Yokohama's ZPS sidewall reinforcement can temporarily support the vehicle's weight even after a puncture allows a complete loss of air pressure.
NOTE: Yokohama's ZPS tires are only recommended for vehicles originally equipped with self-supporting run-flat tires and a tire pressure monitoring system.

Testing Ultra High Performance All-Season Run-Flat Tires (03:37)
Most run-flat tires are summer tires developed for O.E. use on global vehicle makes/models. But several manufacturers have responded to the needs of North American drivers with run-flat tires that promise year-round traction.
We tested favorites from the High Performance All-Season and Ultra High Performance All-Season categories to see if they deliver on their promise.
Customer feedback data reveals strong dry traction and confident cornering, with many ratings in the 9-10 range highlighting precise steering and reliable grip. Wet traction also earns praise, with hydroplaning resistance scoring consistently well (7-10) for all-season versatility. Ride comfort receives positive marks for smoothness, though a few note moderate road noise. Treadwear ratings are mostly favorable (7-10), though some reports of rapid wear in aggressive driving scenarios suggest variability in tread life. Overall, the tire’s balanced performance in dry and wet conditions aligns well with its high-performance all-season design, while minor trade-offs in noise and tread longevity reflect typical usage patterns.

...These tires have superb handling and great traction...
I love my new Yokohama Avid Touring-S. These tires have superb handling and great traction. There is hardly any resistance when turning the wheels at a stop or during cornering. It feels as if you are gliding down the road. My previous tire was the OE, Hankook Optimo and they do not even come close to my new Yokohama's. Great price with great performance.

...They have also been excellent in the rain. We came through Atlanta the night before it flooded and the rain was so heavy we were all going about 40 mph on I-20. I had no problems with traction...
I replace the OE Continentals with these before any reviews were up based on my knowledge of tire design. I am not an expert but I got the right tires for me. These are more quiet and smoother than the Conti's. They have also been excellent in the rain. We came through Atlanta the night before it flooded and the rain was so heavy we were all going about 40 mph on I-20. I had no problems with traction. I am really pleased and impressed. I mounted and balanced them myself and I did a 4 wheel allignment after they were on the car. I had to rebalance them after about 5000 miles because of a shimmy in the steering wheel. Now they are perfect again. I dont know what the cause was. I recommend these tires to anyone who wants a comfortable, quiet ride, and good wet traction. If you want sporty feel and quick turn in I would try to get something with a stiffer side-wall. These are on my wife's Altima and I just wanted quiet and good wet weather traction.

...They have been great in the snow and rain. Traction is excellent...
I have never done a tire review, but I have been so happy with these tires, I wanted to do it. I have owned many different tires over the years. Several brands and types. These by far have been the best I have owned. Overall, the Yokohama brand has been very good, but this particular tire has been great. I did not want to do a review until I had the tires for awhile. They have been great in the snow and rain. Traction is excellent. Great handling and quiet. Had my first rotation, and they are wearing very well. Cannot say enough about this tire. I hope they keep making them. I will buy them for any of my other cars if available. The other point to mention is the price. Very affordable; especially for what you get.

...The little bit I did drive on snow was able to get through with no problem and had great traction.
Just had these tires for a short time. Do a lot of driving in heavy snow, but got them at the end of the season. The little bit I did drive on snow was able to get through with no problem and had great traction.

...They do really well in the rain and snow; hydroplaning hasn't been an issue...
I was surprised at the responsiveness and all-around traction capabilities of these tires. They do really well in the rain and snow; hydroplaning hasn't been an issue. These Yokohamas completely trump the Goodyear Eagle RS-A's that I had on before. At first I wasn't sure what to think because they felt a little light in the steering. Then I realized that the Eagle RS-As are just clunky (it felt like I was driving on dozer tracks compared to the Avid Touring). The Yokos are a tad noisy, but for the price, you can't beat 'em! These are what a middle-of-the-road (haha) tire should drive like. I HIGHLY recommend.

Customers overwhelmingly rate the Yokohama AVID ENVigor ZPS with 9s and 10s for dry traction, highlighting responsive handling and reliable grip. Exceptional performance in dry conditions makes it an excellent High Performance All-Season choice.

...Dry traction is excellent, and handling characteristics are predictable and appropriate for a T (or S) rated tire-- with steering response feeling slightly numb...
The Avid Touring-S is an outstanding value! Superior ride comfort and very low noise levels are definitely the tire's strongest point-- comparable to the much pricier Goodyear Assurance ComfortTread. Dry traction is excellent, and handling characteristics are predictable and appropriate for a T (or S) rated tire-- with steering response feeling slightly numb. However, the tire falls short on wet traction. I have to be very careful to avoid spinning the wheels when launching from a stop in the rain. I drive a light-weight front drive vehicle with a manual transmission which facilitates this by default, but I did not have to be as careful with previous sets of tires. Once in-motion, wet traction is stable though not great, so automatic drivers shouldn't have quite the concern. I do not get any snow, so cannot comment on that front. I have 30,000 miles on my set, and predict a 60,000 to 70,000 thousand mile lifespan. Proper inflation, alignment and rotation is a must for any tire if you expect it to last-- it amazes me how many people neglect this. (A note on treadwear warranties: They are a marketing tool used by tire manufacturers. Your tire will most likely not last the length of the warranty. This is not cause to write a scathing review.)
Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase. This is my second review of this set, and with increased mileage, I have not been disappointed. Living in Southern California, wet traction is not a priority, and the outstanding ride comfort and quietness can not be beat for the money. It's USA made too!

...I've noticed much better handling in wet and dry conditions. When I punch the gas, I feel like the car is trying to keep up with the tires instead of the other way around...
I just put two Yokohama AVID Touring-S tires on the front of my 2003 Saturn Ion. The change in noise level was shocking. I knew my old tires were bad, but I forgot how quiet driving could be. This is the first time in this car that I actually appreciate the tires and driving with the radio turned off. I'm going back to get the back tires replaced as soon as I can. I've noticed much better handling in wet and dry conditions. When I punch the gas, I actually feel like the car is trying to keep up with the tires instead of the other way around. I just got the tires, so I hope my opinion stays the same for the 60,000 mile rating. I paid $170 total for the two and feel like they were worth every penny.

...Ride has been smooth and comfortable since day one...
I have put 45,000 miles on this set of tires, and still have almost half the tread left! Ride has been smooth and comfortable since day one. For the money, could not honestly purchase a better set of tires. Will definitely buy again, whenever these finally wear out.

...The Yoko's are quite on the road and handle well. The ride comfort is excellent and very smooth...
This tire has met my expectations for both price and quality.I have a 99 Honda Accord with 100k and needed a quality tire at a reasonable price. The Yoko's are quite on the road and handle well. The ride comfort is excellent and very smooth. Wet weather traction and cornering are the only weak spots, but I would not say a major issue. These tires replaced a long lasting set of Michelin Exaltos so my expectations are kind of high. Very Good tire and MADE IN THE USA!!

Once past the "break in" period, tire performance improved. Better handling and quieter than OEM. Have not experienced driving in snow/ice and too early to comment on treadwear. Very happy with tire purchase and service from Tirerack.

...These are the worst wet traction street car tires I've ever owned, bar none. They slip and hydroplane like on ice, even in lighter rain with full tread. I noticed this the week after they were installed and tweaking tire pressures would not help...
I'm a 50 year old performance driving instructor and SCCA racer with over 50K miles of road racing track experience under all conditions, wet or dry. These are the worst wet traction street car tires I've ever owned, bar none. They slip and hydroplane like on ice, even in lighter rain with full tread. I noticed this the week after they were installed and tweaking tire pressures would not help. This car never exhibited hydroplaning or looseness prior to installing these tires. The rear end of the car got loose in the lightest rain to the point of being scary. Believe me, I'm comfortable on a wet track with balding race compound tires at 120 MPH, but hey, these Yokohama's are rediculous. I had number of close calls at legal speeds where the car got sideways without warning. It feels like driving on glare ice. Believe me, the suspension condition was PERFECT and STOCK. Then my daughter borrowed the car for a week. She was driving to work about 30 MPH in rainy weather moving with heavy traffic when the rear got loose. She wrapped it around a fire hydrant in a RIDC park. It was totalled, her first accident after driving for 7 yrs. These tires cost me my well-maintained commuter car (Ford Taurus). I personally think the wet traction problem is caused by the long life rubber compound, not the tread design.

...The tires on the front are finally in need of replacement, the rears still probably have another 2 years in them. Incredible. I didn't know tires could last this long...
I bought these 5 years ago for my 2004 Honda Accord. I wish I recorded the mileage when I did so. Doing some basic math, I drive an average of 25,000/yr in this car. 5 x 25K = 125K give or take. The tires on the front are finally in need of replacement, the rears still probably have another 2 years in them. Incredible. I didn't know tires could last this long. Mostly highway driving. Ordered again today.

...They are showing much better wear characteristics.
I believe that the Avid-S Touring is a good all around tire for my car. I am more pleased with these than the General Altimax I have been driving on. I will replace the General's with Yokohama Avid's. They are showing much better wear characteristics.
