The Potenza RE050A RFT (Run-Flat Tire) is Bridgestone's Max Performance Summer run-flat tire developed exclusively for specific BMW, Ferrari, Mazda and MINI vehicles. The Potenza RE050A RFT is designed to provide temporary extended mobility for a distance of 50 miles at up to 50 mph even after a puncture has allowed complete air pressure loss. The Potenza RE050A RFT was developed to provide good traction along with responsive and predictable dry and wet road handling. It is not intended to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.

The Potenza RE050A RFT features a high-grip tread compound molded into an asymmetric tread design. Stable outboard shoulder elements, intermediate tread blocks and a continuous center rib provide responsive handling, high-speed stability and traction on dry roads, while circumferential and lateral tread grooves pump water out from under the tire's footprint to minimize hydroplaning and aid wet traction. A continuous rib adjacent to the inboard shoulder promotes even wear and resists inside wear generated by suspensions that specify negative camber alignment settings.

The tire's internal structure includes twin steel belts reinforced by spiral-wrapped nylon to stabilize the tread area and enhance handling, high-speed capability and ride quality. The structure of the Potenza RE050A RFT also features Bridgestone Side Support Run-Flat technology reinforced sidewalls to support the vehicle after a puncture causes a loss of air pressure.

Install Bridgestone Potenza RE050A RFT tires in sets of four only.

Due to the traction and handling capabilities of the Potenza RE050A RFT, Bridgestone recommends Potenza RE050A RFT tires be used in sets of four to provide the best handling characteristics and tire performance. Potenza RE050A RFT tires may NOT be mixed with other tire models, such as the Potenza RE050A I RFT or Potenza RE050A II RFT.

Though they cannot be labeled as run-flat tires, tires branded with MOExtended or MOE on their sidewalls offer run-flat-like characteristics by delivering limited temporary extended mobility after a puncture results in complete loss of air pressure. Because MOExtended or MOE tires do not have the same speed and distance endurance of conventional run-flat tires, they should not be substituted in any situation where a conventional run-flat tire is required. To confirm what your vehicle needs, check our Original Equipment tire listing for your year, make and model or see your vehicle owner's manual.

Bridgestone Potenza RE050A RFT Reviews

User feedback reveals the Bridgestone Potenza RE050A RFT delivers excellent dry traction (frequent 9-10 scores) and confident cornering, aligning with its max performance summer design. Wet traction earns positive marks (7-8 range) for most drivers, though some note hydroplaning risks in heavy rain. Comfort receives mixed feedback, with lower scores (5-6 average) highlighting a firm ride and noticeable road noise. Treadwear ratings show significant concerns (4-5 average), with many users reporting faster wear than expected despite the run-flat design. While praised for dry-focused performance, buyers prioritizing comfort or longevity may find trade-offs.

...In Florida we see a lot of rainy weather and again, but I have never lacked confidence that the RE050A would perform when I needed it, wet or dry...

The Bridgestone Potenza RE050A RFT was the OEM tire for my BMW 550i equipped with the sport package. I trust BMW to put the best or nearly best tire possible on one of their top of the line sports sedans and this tire has not disappointed me whatsoever. I am not an aggressive driver but I do drive very fast. Consequently, I need a tire that gives me confidence to push my car to its limits. The RE050A does just that. In Florida we see a lot of rainy weather and again, but I have never lacked confidence that the RE050A would perform for me when I needed it, wet or dry. BMW is one of the premier auto makers in the world and if they issue these tires as standard equipment, they do so because they know they're good enough for the Ultimate Driving Machine. So far I have no reason to disagree with them.

Great tire with fantastic grip. Comfort isn’t relevant with such low profile tire, it s all about the handling and these deliver. I usually only use Pirellis on my cars ( Pzeros or P6000) but these have been impressive. As to threadwear, I m a big fan of getting the lowest possible threadwear for maximum grip, I don’t care if they only last 7 or 8k miles.

...I have tracked these tires on two separate track days (7 total run sessions) in the green group (beginner) and they perform well on the track. The steering response is very good and both dry traction and wet traction are very good...

This tire is a performance oriented tire. It should not be driven when temps drop below 40 degrees. They are, after all, summer tires. In fact, they should not even be stored in temps below 20 degrees. I live in the Northeast and change to Pirelli performance winter tires in late October and put them back on in late April. There is a big difference in ride and handling between the winter tires and these Bridgestones, as would be expected. I find that the tires perform exactly as they are designed. The ride is rough as with most low profile run flat tires. My car has the very excellent magnetic ride suspension and in touring mode the tires are not bad at all. I have tracked these tires on two separate track days (7 total run sessions) in the green group (beginner) and they perform well on the track. I am surprised I got this much life out the the tires. The steering response is very good and both dry and wet traction are very good. I do not notice any noise coming from the tires. They are very expensive but I believe I will put another set on my car. I purchased the ATS for its excellent chassis and handling and I do not want to comprise performance for comfort. If you want comfort and long tread life these tires are not for you. If you are looking for performance, I think these tires are a good choice.

...Excellent dry traction and grip...

These tires come OE on my 135is and they came OE on a Mazdaspeed6 I used to own but in non-RFT. Excellent dry traction and grip. Mediocre wet traction. Awful ride and noise (RFT or not). Tread wear is bad on both versions. They are about spent after 11,000 miles in both cases. For a RFT I would recommend the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 ZP. Makes up for everything this tire lacks. Dry performance is about equal.

Good tire. Mostly because they are "run flat". You can run over a dime and feel it though. NOT a comfortable ride at all but some of that is inherent in my vehicle.

Absolutely dismal in every aspect. Loud and noisy while driving at any speed. Very stiff and does not make for a comfortable ride. Even the smallest of imperfections in the road will be felt. After only a year and 7,500 miles, the tire compound started to disintegrate and microcracks and fissures opened up the tread. The final nail in the coffin (no pun intended) was an actual nail that got lodged in the shoulder of the tire. No tire shop was willing to make a repair and as advertised by Bridgestone, RE050As must be changed as an entire set. Despite the great intention behind run-flat tires, they are not worth the headache, price, and shortcomings. Overall the quality of the RE050A RFT is terrible, I would not recommend them to anyone!

Due to a poor experience with these tires, I'm switching to non RFTs. Having put about 25K miles on them, I have found the ride comfort to extremely poor! That alone is a sufficient reason for me to switch these out and never opt for these again. I've had RFTs on a Z4 before and they were certainly not as bad as these.

...Since I'm new to this sport I didn't notice the 140 TW rating... the tires are just plain awful and the tread is gone after 7500 miles, in less than 6 months!...

OEM tires, I guess for the run flat feature (no spare, just a goo pump). I bought the car for SCCA Solo and spirited mountain driving. Since I’m new to this sport I didn’t notice the 140 TW rating... the tires are just plain awful and the tread is gone after 7500 miles, in less than 6 months! I hope to gain 2 seconds on the track simply by getting rid of these. They don’t hold on turns, they don’t give any confidence, and they are rough and noisy on the interstate.

Used OEM tires for 2 sets of these RFTs. Poor tread ware...2nd set 10,000 miles, and tire inner edge split after 1 year of use.Extremely noisy, poor wet traction when tread starts wearing out at 5000 miles. Will never buy these tires again.

Not happy with these tires at all. First, they wear extremely quickly (I got maybe two years out of a set of four, and less than 20K mi). Secondly, I've never had tires that were this noisy. The tread noise was so bad I felt like I had mud-bogging tires on my car. Lastly they are obscenely expensive. For my next set of tires, I'm picking up a doughnut spare to keep in the trunk and I'm ditching the run-flats. DO NOT BUY THESE.
