The AVID Ascend LX is Yokohama's Standard Touring All-Season tire developed for drivers of sedans, coupes, crossovers and minivans who want a quiet ride and confident wet performance combined with dependable winter traction and long tread life. The AVID Ascend LX is designed to deliver grip in dry, wet and wintry conditions, even in light snow.
Yokohama BluEarth branding is used to identify an ecologically friendly series of tires that are designed to deliver environmentally, human and socially friendly solutions for drivers and their vehicles. AVID Ascend LX tires branded with the BluEarth symbol are identified on their Sizes and Specs pages.
The symmetric pattern of the AVID Ascend LX features an offset design and a five-block pitch sequence to help reduce pattern and road noise for a comfortable, quiet ride. The tread is molded from Yokohama's L-2 all-season compound that features a unique polymer blend designed to enhance wear resistance, and the wider, flatter tread contour helps to evenly distribute pressure within the footprint to combat uneven wear and improve tire longevity. The wide, circumferential and lateral grooves evacuate water from the contact patch to resist hydroplaning, and wavy 3D sipes in the shoulders plus notches in the intermediate ribs create biting edges for traction in light snow and on ice.
Internally, a polyester casing aids ride comfort and supports two wide, steel belts. A nylon reinforcement provides high-speed capability and enhances handling and durability.

Customer surveys indicate the Bridgestone WeatherPeak excels in comfort, with smooth ride quality and low noise earning consistent 8-10 scores. Treadwear receives strong praise for durability in most cases, though a few reports note premature wear. Winter traction stands out with reliable 8-10 ratings in snow and slush, while wet grip and hydroplaning resistance earn near-perfect marks. Dry handling delivers confident cornering and responsiveness, aligning with grand touring expectations. While most drivers rate this tire highly across all categories, treadlife variability warrants attention for those prioritizing long-term value. Overall, it performs as a capable all-season option for year-round comfort and traction.

...Very good traction in wet. Glides along almost like floating. I have not yet tested in heavy, sustained rain yet...
This is early in the game, so some attributes have not been tested, e.g. wear-and-tear, snow and gas mileage with extra-inflation of tires.
There are three components to review- the tires, purchase on Tire Rack, install experience.
Tires, Very smooth and quiet, right out of the box. Nice steering- not too loose and not too precise, right in the middle. Very good traction in wet. Glides along almost like floating. I have not yet tested in heavy, sustained rain yet. Dry traction performance similar to wet. Does reduce gas mileage significantly from the factory original "low resistance" tires, i.e. 4-5mpg, at least at standard 35psi pressure. I have not tested yet at 38-40psi.
No test on anything winter, no indication on treadwear or how long tire retains its characteristics yet. Overall, these reminds me of Turanza Quiettrack without the 500 mile break-in period for noise.
Tire Rack, Best objective information in the business about tires; customer service connected to the company and to the customer. High marks. Pretty good on shipping tires promptly and fresh tires, too (less than 6 months old).

Excellent traction on wet roads in downpour conditions. Almost zero hydroplane in deep puddles, reminding you to slow down in bad conditions...
Excellent traction on wet roads in downpour conditions. Almost zero hydroplane in deep puddles, reminding you to slow down in bad conditions. The difference in ride quality with these vs the previous tires is night and day. The contact with the road is vastly improved, the steering feels tight and controlled and they run very quiet. From now on, Bridgestone Weatherpeak is my year round go-to tire.

Tires literally saved our lives in icy roads in central Kansas during a storm that created a "war zone" of mangled cars and trucks on I-70. Very thankful for these tires in that situation. They allowed us to navigate slowly and safely to a hotel.

...They hold up well in dry conditions when pushed, much better than I expected from a tire with a triple peak snow rating

...Dry traction is sufficient, but these tires tend to roll in turns as they have soft sidewalls...
These replaced a set of Falken Wildpeak A/T Trail tires; those did everything asked of them and provided surprisingly high levels of dry grip and cornering stability, along with excellent wet and snow/ice traction. The downside was the MPG impact (lost 1-2 MPG from the previous set of non-Wildpeak tires) and the road noise...but they're a crossover A/T tire, so I wasn't expecting incredible quietness. As a former automotive service tech, I have years of hands-on experience with mounting, balancing, repairing, inspecting, and recommending tires, so when the Falkens were near the end of their lifespan, I looked into new options that would increase my MPG as my work commute route had changed to 70/30 highway/street. Enter the Bridgestone WeatherPeak. On paper, the WeatherPeak offered everything I was looking for -- lower weight per tire, fully open shoulders, lots of sipes and grooves, 3PMSF rating, long treadwear warranty, smooth ride, etc. They had just been released but based on appearance and stats I felt they would be an excellent choice. Please read on for the pros and cons.
PROS: + Smooth ride quality, very comfortable over bumps and road imperfections. + Cuts through water as well as expected. +/- 1-2 MPG increase...when sufficiently aired. My Forester tire inflation specs are 33 psi front/32 psi rear; at this pressure, my MPG are the same as the prior Falken Wildpeaks. The Bridgestones must be aired an additional 3 psi or more to help increase the MPG.
CONS: - Cornering stability is poor, again when at factory recommended psi or below; it improves slightly with additional psi (but be careful to not overinflate). - Dry traction is sufficient, but these tires tend to roll in turns as they have soft sidewalls. - Puncture resistance; one day after install a nail punched through, tire repaired. - Wear at 10,000 miles is more than anticipated.; lots of small chips and tears on the shoulder blocks.
I can't comment on snow/ice performance for the moment. Stay safe!

Customers overwhelmingly rate the Bridgestone WeatherPeak's comfort as excellent, with most scoring 9s and 10s for smooth ride quality and quiet performance. High marks highlight refined noise reduction and all-season stability, aligning perfectly with Grand Touring expectations. A few 7-8 scores show minor variations, but overall feedback confirms outstanding comfort.

I bought these because the tread wear warranty was 10,000 longer...
I was between buying this tire and the Michelin CrossClimate2. I bought these because the tread wear warranty was 10,000 longer. Last weekend I drove through a pretty major snow storm for over 140 miles. I didnt realize the severity of this storm because my Bridgestones only slipped twice and that was when we were going up a pretty steep and unplowed road. Very pleased with the snow performance of this tire.

...One of the biggest selling points is that these tires vs. Michelin is that they do not have a directional tread pattern. I appreciate this to help with extending the life of the tire...
Bridgestone's response to Michelin's CrossClimates is definitely a winner. One of the biggest selling points is that these tires vs. Michelin is that they do not have a directional tread pattern. I appreciate this to help with extending the life of the tire. I know some manufacturers like Volvo do not recommend a crisscross rotation, but Honda does recommend it, if your tires allow it.
Although I am in Ohio, the winters have been milder than usual. We've only seen light slow. However, the tire does very well with cold, damp, and potentially icy pavement. The hydroplaning resistance is excellent.
The 2nd gen CR-V does have a high-profile tire size (215/65R16), so it's not exactly meant to go around corners quickly, especially with a higher center of gravity, combined with worn sway bars, but the tires do seem to have appropriate turn-in responsiveness for an All Season tire that is also 3PMSF rated. The tires performed well on an small, worn-out SUV, on winding country roads...
I would be happy to purchase these again, and I look forward to trying them in moderately deep snow.

Breaking Down Tire Performance Categories - 2024 Special Test With Winter Update(26:05)
We understand that tire performance categories can be confusing. You want an all-season tire, but there are several all-season categories; how do you know which one is right for you? You want a summer tire, but again, which summer category? In this special demonstration, we took six all-season tires from three all-season categories and three summer tires from two summer categories to lay it out for you. Category-leading tires from the Standard Touring All-Season, Grand Touring All-Season, Ultra High Performance All-Season, Max Performance Summer, and Extreme Performance Summer categories are tested so you can see exactly what each "step up" gets you as a driver and what trade-offs were made along the way.
Testing Standard Touring All-Season Tires 2021: Yokohama AVID Ascend LX(1:58)
The Yokohama AVID Ascend LX hopes to harmonize the delicate balance between durability, traction and comfort. We test it against several of the benchmarks of the Standard Touring All-Season tire category to see which tire comes out on top.
