Tires are designed specifically for different vehicles and wheel sizes. Tell us about your vehicle or the specific size you want so we can help find the right tires for you.

The ContiProContact SSR (Self Supporting Runflat) is Continental's Grand Touring All-Season run-flat tire designed to provide temporary extended mobility in case of complete air loss due to a puncture. The ContiProContact SSR is designed to blend good looks, low noise and the assurance of extended mobility along with the versatility of all-season traction, even in light snow.

ContiProContact SSR tires permit drivers to remain mobile in the event of a flat tire by allowing them to reach their destination or tire service facility without having to replace a flat tire with the spare tire. The ContiProContact SSR's reinforced sidewall enables the car to continue on its way at a maximum speed of 50 mph (80 km/h) for up to 50 miles (80 km), depending on road conditions and vehicle weight.

The ContiProContact SSR features an all-season tread compound molded into a symmetric, notched-rib tread design that provides continuous tread contact with the road to enhance steering response and handling while its wide circumferential grooves promote hydroplaning resistance and wet traction. Continental's PROactive Edge Technology places at least 800 arched edges in each ContiProContact SSR tire's tread design to bring more active edges into the contact patch to promote stormy-weather traction while allowing the pattern elements to transfer smoothly from edge to edge to minimize on-road noise.

The tire's internal structure includes twin steel belts reinforced by spirally wrapped nylon to stabilize the tread area promoting uniformity and high-speed durability along with reinforced self-supporting sidewalls that prevent the inside of the tire from getting pinched between the road and the rim in the event of a loss of inflation.

Though they cannot be labeled as run-flat tires, tires branded with MOExtended or MOE on their sidewalls offer run-flat-like characteristics by delivering limited temporary extended mobility after a puncture results in complete loss of air pressure. Because MOExtended or MOE tires do not have the same speed and distance endurance of conventional run-flat tires, they should not be substituted in any situation where a conventional run-flat tire is required. To confirm what your vehicle needs, check our Original Equipment tire listing for your year, make and model or see your vehicle owner's manual.

Continental ContiProContact SSR Reviews

Ratings highlight excellence in dry traction (8-10) and responsive steering, with many customers praising confident handling. Comfort receives generally positive feedback (7-9), though some note variability in ride smoothness and noise levels. Treadwear scores (7-10) reflect strong durability for a grand touring tire, though a few report premature wear. Winter traction is reliable in light snow (6-8), but ice performance (1-5) falls short, aligning with typical all-season limitations. Wet grip (7-8) is solid for most conditions, though hydroplaning resistance shows occasional dips (5-7) in heavy rain. Ideal for drivers prioritizing year-round versatility with a focus on dry-road confidence.

...I live in Northeast and always buy winter specific tires. I rode these all seasons thru the winter and loved them in snow. Yes the All4 helps but I was surprised at how good they run in snow...

These came with purchase at 12k miles. I rode them to
40k. Got a second pair and am at 90k. Time to
Purchase. The fronts do burn quickly but that is normal. Great traction. Really holds the road. I live in Northeast and always buy winter specific tires. I rode these all seasons thru the winter and loved them. Yes the All4 helps but I was surprised at how good they run in snow. Only negative? The run flats are so stiff on any pothole bump frost heave. Rattles your teeth.

...Drove all winter this year, with record low temps & snowfall in my area -- did not drive in deep snow, but all others were driven without a instance where I felt tires couldn't handle the situation...

Purchased this vehicle late Aug 2017 from BMW dealer as lease return with 19,995 miles and tires about half worn. I am scheduling them for replacement now with 37,500+ miles and tires visibly at the end of their useful life. They have been very stable, quiet and sure-footed in the variety of conditions I have experienced. Road noise I've heard has came from the variety of surfaces used in my area, some simply respond to the surface conditions & temperature with more noise. Was never loud enough to be an issue with me or passengers. Drove all winter this year, with record low temps & snowfall in my area -- did not drive in deep snow, but all others were driven without a instance where I felt tires couldn't handle the situation. This is my 1st experience with run-flat tires, so it took a while to get used to the stiffer ride. Other than that, I had a great experience with these and would buy again.

...Traction is predictable, average drivers should be able to feel when it's getting pushed (even with moderately numb CLA steering) and when to back off...

Came as OEM tires on my 2014 CLA250, purchased in Oct 2013, with 52,000 miles of mixed NJ backroad/city/highway on them and still at 4.6mm (just under 6/32") tread left. Not sure what folks with poor tread wear are doing to their tires, but I sure don't have any complaints. Tires are rotated at ever 10k miles with regular service, nothing more. Traction is predictable, average drivers should be able to feel when it's getting pushed (even with moderately numb CLA steering) and when to back off. Some caution if the pavement you drive on have running seams or cracks, these tires track on them more than I've noticed on any other tires. Lane changes over long snaky asphalt cracks on some of these NJ highways, the tires want to pull and follow the crack instead.

Wet road traction is good, no more discernible loss of confidence at 65+ mph on Interstates in the rain than any other tires.

As for snow/ice conditions...these aren't winter tires but they're competent. I keep any acceleration, deceleration and steering smooth and gentle so I can't comment on how far they'll go. I've never pushed them in those conditions.

They're run-flats, a stiffer ride is to be expected so they perform as I expect on the comfort front. Only real complaint is the highway tire noise, there's a lot of it.

Would I buy these again? Probably not for the CLA, not enough sound insulation for tires this noisy. Even on super smooth highways, at 65+ mph it is pretty awful.

...Dry traction is fine, driving in rain is decent as long as the tires are like-new...

Wish cars still came with donut or full-size spares. It's worth the extra weight. These tires simply don't last and as others have complained, they are prone to ruptures in the side-wall. Had to replace a pair of these on my BMW due to unusually rapid wear on the rear tires (yes, the BMW is RWD). One of the tires that I didn't replace has a bubble in the side wall and I can't remember ever even hitting a pot hole. Noise level is definitely worse than average. Dry traction is fine, driving in rain is decent as long as the tires are like-new. You can pretty much forget about driving safely in icy or snowy conditions. I would switch to non run-flat Continentals but can't justify sticking an extra tire or spare in the trunk since there is no dedicated space for one; a spare tire will use most of the trunk. To be fair, this is probably one of the better run-flats compared to other options, but needless to say, run-flat technology still has a long way to go.

...Treadwear is ok with tires needing to be changed at 35k vs the rated 40k. However, part of the problem was overinflated rear tires while following the on board computer guide, and improper alignment for part of the life of the tires combined with untimely tire rotation.

On the positive side, I had 0 complaints for the first 20k-25k miles and there have not been any sidewall bubbles which had been a plague in previous tires/vehicles on run flats. Treadwear is ok with tires needing to be changed at 35k vs the rated 40k. However, part of the problem was overinflated rear tires while following the on board computer guide, and improper alignment for part of the life of the tires combined with untimely tire rotation.
Road noise started to be noticeable after 20k, became bothersome after 25-27k and is now significant at 35k. Noise was made worst after having a laser alignment done on both rear and front, as it forced the tires into a different position. I believe the uneven wear caused by the previously mentioned issues is a contributing factor, and would likely be reduced had the alignment, tire rotation and proper inflation been perfect through ought the tires life.
For everyone having issues with these tires, make sure all these issues are addressed early on.
Ride roughness has been on par with other tire brands previously owned and although it felt ok early on does feel harsh now.

Tires came with the new car. Logged slightly over 55000 miles. Now tires are worn down to the wear bars. Very happy with the tires (I had gone through 2 sets of these tires on my previous 06 BMW 3 series with run flats) Good tread life and stability. Tires are bit noisy after 40000 miles logged, but much quieter than Bridgestone run flats. (avoid Bridgestone Runflats - they are noisy and wear out in less than 20k miles) Per BMW recommendation, I did not rotate the tires. Just checked for proper wheel alignment and balancing once in a while. I recommend this to BMW 3 series owners with run flats. Best tire you can buy for money if you must have run flat tires. FYI: My car is a 2009 BMW 328i sedan with optional 17 inch wheels but no sports package. If you have 2010 or later BMW 3 series, your car comes with these tires as part of Value Pkg. No more 16 inch wheels. But when I got mine, 17 inch wheels (w/o sports pkg) was $500 option. I hope this helps.

...For me, the wear was the most positive thing. Lasting almost 45K is something I never expected...

I've been interested in RF's ever since reading about early developments 30 years ago or so. When I got my Mini I figured I would give them a try. I have to say, if roads were perfect, these tires would not be bad.

For me, the wear was the most positive thing. Lasting almost 45K is something I never expected. The dry traction was great and try as hard as I could, I never did break them loose on the street (never had them on the track though).

There are 2 things that really made me hate this tire: HARSH Ride and Unpredictability. I guess I should have known, if you can drive on it flat they're going to be harsh but this was ridiculous. Every little seam, joint, ridge whatever was transmitted up. Kinda fun for the first week around town. Very tiring on a long trip.

The most disappointing thing was the terrifying transitions when hitting a seam not quite perpendicular when coming around a curve with less than perfect camber. Unprepared, it feels like something huge just jerked the wheel out of your hand. Very unnerving. I learned to live with it but never really got used to it. I never have driven with a death grip on the wheel but I began to with these tires. Just not worth it.

Overall, the negatives outweigh the positives for me. I would not recommend nor would I buy these tires again.
