The ExtremeContact DWS 06 PLUS is Continental's Ultra High Performance All-Season tire developed for drivers of sports cars, sports coupes, performance sedans, SUVs and CUVs. Designed to improve upon key metrics compared to its predecessor, like braking in dry and wet, along with increased traction in snow and ice, the ExtremeContact DWS 06 PLUS is built to deliver skillful handling and high-speed capability with increased confidence for inclement weather, even in light snow.

Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus Callouts

Featuring an updated, performance-tuned all-season tread compound molded into an updated asymmetric tread design and utilizing SPORTPLUS+ Technology, the ExtremeContact DWS 06 PLUS is built for enhanced handling and braking performance. Macro-Blocks and Chamfered block edges help improve ultimate dry road traction and provide increased cornering responsiveness. Generous high angle and circumferential grooves help evacuate water from the contact patch for increased hydroplaning resistance. 3D sipes help retain handling precision while increasing the number of biting edges for improved wet traction, while X-Sipes are utilized to improve lateral and longitudinal grip in inclement weather. Traction grooves within the circumferential channels further enhance winter weather traction by improving snow-to-snow traction.

ExtremeContact DWS 06 PLUS tires feature an Alignment Verification System to help identify vehicle misalignment concerns early in the tire's life before wear patterns form. The system also confirms suitability for different driving conditions through Tuned Performance Indicators. Tuned Performance Indicators are visible letters molded into the second rib from the outboard shoulder to alert drivers of the tire's performance levels. A visible "DWS" indicates the tire has appropriate tread depth for dry conditions, as well as wet roads and snow. After the "S" has worn away, the remaining "DW" indicates the tire only has appropriate tread depth for dry and most wet road conditions. After the "W" and "S" have both worn away, the remaining "D" indicates the tire has appropriate tread depth for dry conditions only.

The ExtremeContact DWS 06 PLUS incorporates a high strength, 2 ply sidewall construction for improved resistance to damage, along with a Sport Sidewall Insert for increased handling responsiveness. Continental's new high-strength, triple action, hybrid cap ply helps combine the positive attributes of a stiffer cord material for improved handling characteristics, while simultaneously retaining the benefits of a more flexible cord, helping maintain a smooth and quiet ride with an optimized contact patch for even wear and longer tread life.

...These tires handle wet driving conditions easily with excellent hydroplaning resistance even in the heaviest downpour at highway speeds. Stopping distances are very short for those emergency braking maneuvers...

A great tire for drivers with crossovers and SUVs looking for excellent cornering stability and feel. Excellent feedback to the driver's inputs and predictable handling at the limit, with a progressive breakaway. Although not necessarily the grippiest tire out there, the handling characteristics overall more than make up. These tires handle wet driving conditions easily with excellent hydroplaning resistance even in the heaviest downpour at highway speeds. Stopping distances are very short for those emergency braking maneuvers. Drawbacks? This probably isn't the tire for those looking for ride comfort or all-season capability (it's a summer tire; I don't use it in the winter). On bad pavement, it doesn't absorb imperfections quite as well as less-performance oriented tires and although they're reasonably quiet, they're not the quietest ones out there. But for driving performance and handling, these Continentals are one of the top SUV tires out there.

...Feels great in the rain also, lots of traction...

So far feel much better than the Michelins I wore out and seem like they will last twice as long. Feels great in the rain also, lots of traction. Time will tell. So far real happy.

...The first 25,000 miles delivers extraordinary dry traction and wet traction and comfort with very low road noise...

This is my third set. I get 30,000 miles per set with semi aggressive driving (hard cornering, high speed highway but conservative city) on a 6,000 pound vehicle. My rating is based on the whole lifecycle of the tire. The first 25,000 miles delivers extraordinary dry and wet traction and comfort with very low road noise. They even perform well in snow as long as you allow for turning hampered by the width of the tire. The next 5,000 miles exhibits somewhat degraded wet traction which leads to my ratings of 8 or 9. Overall a very good tire, even at the high price.

...fantastic grip at any legal speed and more on most...

I would definitely purchase another set. These ones replaced same tire but in 285/45 size. I went up to 295 because at the time they were less expensive than the 285 size that were available. For this truck, I think that 285 is the better option.

I have a winter tire set so I use these only during the non-winter season. Consequently, my posted 10K on these tires is just an estimate - I really do not know how many miles I have put on them. I know that they have taken me from Salisbury, MD to Hilton Head Island, SC once, at least 4 trips to Busch Gardens, VA, 1 trip to NYC, at least 3 trips to DC...bottom line is that these tires have accumulated sufficient mileage on various driving surfaces to make a good judgement on their performance. But, 285 or 295, this tire rides very very well - low noise and fantastic grip at any legal speed and more on most non-winter conditions. Treadwear is no surprise or a UHP summer only tire. Anyone expecting this to last over 30,000 miles really does not get the point - same for those who gripe about the poor snow performance of these tires. They are really summer tires, though they do perform acceptabley on light snow.

...Very satisfied with this set of tires and they have made a huge difference in comfort, noise level and traction

My previous tires were in fare shape and probably had another 10k miles on them but I had one tire that had an unfixable puncture, since my wife drives this car from time to time I decided to swap the full set out. Very satisfied with this set of tires and they have made a huge difference in comfort, noise level and traction

...Good comfort, low noise and strong resistance to potholes. Some understandable noise on uneven, rough or raked concrete pavement roads...

I rarely post reviews here, but this time I'd like to share the experience I had with the OEM ADVANS that came with my Cayenne Turbo, and how these Continentals CrossContact UHP tires should be the correct fit for the Cayenne T. The ADVANs are not a proper truck/suv tire and wore down in only 9,000. They got louder, and wet traction disappeared just as quick as the thread. I can see the appeal of the ADVAN on a sports car, but the porky Cayenne is no sports car. The Conti's CC UHP is well rounded-good performing SUV tire. No noticeable loss of dry traction compared to the ADVANs. I did not give the Conti's CC UHP a 10/10 as I have that reserved for the Michelins PSS that I have in most of my cars, but it ranks pretty far up in my scale. Although they had some thread left at 19,000 miles, I replaced them (w/ the same tires) when I did not feel comfortable at highways speeds during a downpour. They did not grow considerably louder but some roughness was obvious on the worn down set as smoothness is improved with the new set. Great dry and wet traction. No hydroplaning even on a 295 wide tire. Good comfort, low noise and strong resistance to potholes. Some understandable noise on uneven, rough or "raked" concrete pavement roads. Set pressure is just a couple psi short of triggering the tpms. So unless you are tracking the Cayenne, I see no reason to go back to the OEM Advans (or the Latitudes - sorry Michelin).

...These tires are quiet, handle brilliantly considering the 5000+ pound curb weight of my Benz, and are wearing within my expectations. I love this tire. We live in Colorado, and use this only in summer months, as I run dedicated snows on separate rims from late October thru mid April. These tires are quiet, handle brilliantly considering the 5000+ pound curb weight of my Benz, and are wearing within my expectations. Obviously, with my R-class, I am not driving like Mario Andretti most of the time, but I think I should be able to get 30k+ miles on these no problem, which is very good for what is a VERY HIGH PERFORMANCE TIRE.

If you want something that will squeal, provide worse traction, be louder, etc., then buy a tire with a higher treadwear rating, and lower performance specs. Personally, I feel that tires are cheap considering how long they last and the performance they provide - I just bought 4 more in 235/65/17 for our Volvo XC90 (again, separate snows) at $110 apiece with the free camera included. With shipping, mounting, and warranty, I figure I'll be around $650 all in, or around $160 a tire. That will keep me going for the next 5 years with snow swaps, or just around $130 per year for tires. Add snow tire cost and you get to around $250 per year for tires. THAT IS CHEAP for what is really the most important thing you can have on your car.

Remember folks, your car might have a lot of power, but how you put it down is really up to the tires. And remember, 4 wheel drive can help you accelerate, but it won't help you corner or brake sooner.

One last caveat, these tires are poor in the snow - get snow tires to help you out there or all seasons if you can't afford 2 sets.
