The Discoverer Rugged Trek is Cooper's Rugged All-Terrain tire built for the drivers of pickup trucks, crossovers and full-size SUVs looking for a tire with a capable off-road appearance and performance which also maintains a smooth, comfortable ride on streets and highways. By carefully combining powerful off-road features with on-road design attributes, the Discoverer Rugged Trek is engineered as an aggressively stylized all-terrain tire with a performance emphasis on dry, wet and wintry conditions, including light snow.
The Discoverer Rugged Trek utilizes a durable all-season tread compound molded into a bold, symmetric tread pattern designed to wear evenly with longer tread life than many traditional off-road centric tires. Cooper's Stable Trac Technology built into the inboard tread blocks help provide clear road stability and control with omni-directional, micro gauge siping engineered to enhance grip on pavement and rough surfaces. Whisper Grooves molded between the center and outboard tread elements help dampen airborne noise from the pattern for increased on-road comfort. The deep, high-void tread pattern helps increase hydroplaning resistance while outer block sipes enhance slippery road grip and control. Aggressive Stone Blockades built into the edges of the tread grooves expel lodged rocks to protect against damaging stone drilling. Earth Diggers molded into each shoulder help propel through loose surfaces for traction in difficult all-terrain environments and snow.
The internal construction of the Discoverer Rugged Trek features a robust two-ply casing supporting twin high strength steel belts which focuses on blending durability with comfort. A single-ply nylon reinforcement is also added for high speed control and stability.
Select Discoverer Rugged Trek tires are branded with the three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) symbol to identify they meet the industry's severe snow service standards and if so, will be noted in the tire's Details & Pricing section. The absence of the "Severe Snow Service Rated" text indicates that size is not 3PMSF-branded.
Cooper Discoverer Rugged Trek tires allow drivers to personalize their vehicles by offering dual sidewall designs on every tire. One side features a "Knife-Edge" styling with straighter lined shoulder elements, while the other side's "Mountain Pass" design includes jagged elements reminiscent of rugged mountain peaks. All tires feature both designs, allowing drivers to choose their look based on which is mounted outward on the wheel.

Twelve selections from the On-Road, Off-Road, and Rugged All-Terrain categories comprise this All-Terrain tire test to see how they stack up when it comes to daily driving. A/T tires excel off the beaten path, but what about the rest of the time? The popular aesthetics of this category lead to many using them on their daily drivers. So, what are you sacrificing by choosing these products for your concrete journeys? These tires have excellent wet traction... I have not had any issues with these tires in wet weather...
These tires have excellent wet traction. The original Toyos had problems with wet traction and hydroplaning. I have not had any issues with these tires in wet weather. These tires make a little nose over 45 mph, but not objectionable. I highly recommend these and will definately purchase these again.

...These tires have been excellent on wet surfaces with no slip and they grip the road nicely on turns and curves...
Very happy with these tires so far. I have them on a Ram 1500 quad cab and drive primarily on highway between NY and NC. I Also drive in deep snow conditions in New York during winter. These tires have been excellent on wet surfaces with no slip and they grip the road nicely on turns and curves. In 4 wheel drive for snow and ice I would rate them much better than the OEM tires that came with the truck. On the highway between NY and NC they have respond well at high speeds and the noise is not a factor.

Customers praise the Cooper Discoverer Rugged Trek's winter traction, with most snow and deep snow scores hitting 9s and 10s. Ice traction shows strong performance for an all-terrain tire, with many ratings in the 7-8 range, though a few lower scores suggest variability in extreme icy conditions.

Well, i have just wrapped up a crazy hunting trip after tons of rain and the dirt roads were a mucky mess. These tires went thru the muck with control and i was impressed. Then i came thru Nashville after the record winter storm hit them in Jan 2024. No road clearing equipment and i navigated the snow covered roads with no problem. about 20 miles outside of Nashville the highway was shutdown and it was now dark. GPS took me offroading in the dark country roads with 5-9 inches of snow and these tires never spun out. Finally after two hours i couldn't find an alternate route and was preparred to sleep in truck when i called a hotel 20 miles back and got the last room. however, i now had to make it. tires did great in crazy mushy road with snow, sleet, ice and it was dark as well. next morning i got 25 miles up the highway towards chattanooga before again the highway was shut down due to icey roads. took me 5 hours to go less than 20 miles but these tires never once slid or spun out on the icey roads. i'm totally impressed. i've never been in that kind of mess and these tires saved me.

...no hydroplaning, driven up hill in the snow with no slip at all...
Love these tires, just hit a little over 50k on them, They are worn and need to be replaced. Was a little disappointed they did not make it to 60k. Other then that the traction of these tires is amazing. Absolutely no hydroplaning, driven up hill in the snow with no slip at all. Only downside of them is a slight decrease in gas mileage but not enough to deter from a great tire.

...They've been stupid responsive in all conditions and thus far a pleasure to drive (to the point where I got my lazy butt online to actually write a review)...
By happenstance I saw on Instagram that these launched last week. I've been debating what tires to get for a couple months but hadn't wanted to pull the trigger on anything. Quite frankly, I wasn't thrilled with the options. I had been running Nitto Ridge Grapplers but was highly dissatisfied with their performance in light wet conditions; I get a lot of that in Eastern VA so no way I was buying them again. I had Goodyear Dura-Tracs years ago on my old Silverado, liked them quite a bit, but recent cost increases have made them far too expensive for my tastes. Similarly, I ran BFG All-Terrains on that same '07 truck before the Dura-Tracs, but never loved their ride in certain conditions.
That brings me back to Cooper. After buying my current truck I immediately outfitted them with the Discoverer AT3s and loved them from a performance standpoint. The only thing I didn't like was the looks; they weren't aggressive enough for my tastes. These new Rugged Treks fix that "problem" as they look freaking fantastic... Back to last week. I saw the unveil on Wednesday, called a local Cooper Dealer who somehow found a set (he initially laughed at me for asking, no joke), they were delivered Thursday, and I had them installed Friday. Yes, I've only been running them for about 100 miles over the last four days, but I've been unequivocally thrilled. I've driven them in light rain, heavy rain, sunshine, and up and down the dirt/gravel road on which I live. They've been stupid responsive in all conditions and thus far a pleasure to drive (to the point where I got my lazy butt online to actually write a review).
So final thoughts... Great looking, great performance (thus far), and great price. Cooper has an absolute winner here and I would 100% purchase again over the Dura-Tracs, Ridge Grapplers, All-Terrain T/A KO2s, and Discoverer AT3s, all of which I've prevously owned.

...The tire perform well on dry pavement, not much noise at all considering the aggressive tread...
Have only put 1000 miles on the tires since installed. The tire perform well on dry pavement, not much noise at all considering the aggressive tread. Hydroplaning resistance is excellent, one of the main reasons I replaced my tires. Wet traction is good. Traction on packed dirt roads is good. Tire Rack shipping was fast, received tires in two days. Online ordering made tire shopping simple.

Coming from a 265/45/20 (Continental CrossContact LX Sport) to this 265/60/18 (Cooper Rugged Trek) is night and day. A little tire noise from 10-35mph but once you get faster the hum goes away, and that hum isn't noticeable. Comfort is also very good. Hope this tire lasts me 60k miles or more.

...They are still impressing me with how mild the tread noise is for how aggressive and chunky the tread is. I am happy with the comfort they provide as well.
I'm really enjoying these so far. I haven't found anything that causes them to make them lose traction yet. I did notice they rub a bit when my last set of tires, and after some looking around these start off at 33.7" OD where most other tires in this size are 33.1-33-4" OD. I keep getting compliments on how they look. They are still impressing me with how mild the tread noise is for how aggressive and chunky the tread is. I am happy with the comfort they provide as well.

...Tread wear is looking good and measures 12/32 at the 11,500 mile mark. This size starts with 16/32 new. Keep in mind a deep tread all terrain tire wears slower the shallower the tread...
I am a retired wholesale tire salesman and have sold many and driven on many different tires over the years. I have 11,500 miles on this set of Rugged Treks on my personal truck. One would think looking at them they would be noisy. The whisper grooves Cooper advertises obviously work well keeping the noise down. Ride is good. Tread wear is looking good and measures 12/32 at the 11,500 mile mark. This size starts with 16/32 new. Keep in mind a deep tread all terrain tire wears slower the shallower the tread. The first few 32nds always wear faster than the remainder of the tread. Rotations have been done every 3000-5000 miles. I could probably go longer between rotations as there is no shoulder cupping present at the rotation intervals. Common when running mostly highway miles. Tires balanced perfectly and tire uniformity is an A plus. Snow and wet traction get an A grade from me. Cooper has a home run with this tire. If you want a great aggressive looking tire for your pickup and you don't want to sacrifice ride comfort and noise this is a recommended choice.
Vehicle: 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 4WD Crew Cab Miles Driven on Tires: 11,000 Driving Conditions: Combined Highway/City Location: NEW PHILADELPHIA, OH Driving Style: Average
Tires have been great, from many miles on dirt/mud roads that do not get any care to hauling my 5th wheel camper many miles on highway and over mountain roads. The road noise is nothing that I would consider to be loud or annoying. In snow they are great, ice can make them a little less stable, but still an amazing tire on a heavy truck. The tread wear has been very impressive.

...Im not confident enough to run this tire past 40k. Definitely not going to buy again.
Review Update: (last review 2 years ago) Approximately +/- 35,000 miles. 98% On road & 2% Off road. Size: 265/60r18 Driving style: Aggressive / Spirited Vehicle: 2020 Honda Passport Touring AWD
Pros: Subjectively this is one of the most good looking tires on the marked for the size im after. Handled well in Dry/Wet/Dirt/Snow/Mud (basically on all categories) on its first 10-15k miles Still grabbing & gripping in Snow/Mud/Dirt @ 35k miles
Cons: It gets LOUD! Every mile that you use this tire it gets worst. Started ok-ish for the first 10-15k miles then gets louder and louder. Notice more slipping on wet road after @ 20k miles Less comfortable after @ 20k miles Not 3 peak rated (for its price it should be)
Conclusion: If you are looking for an all year round tire this is NOT it. If you are after the looks maybe this is for you. This can be a secondary set of tires for offroading or snow (although its not 3peak rated). Cooper categorize this tire as A/S but it performs more like a A/T especially the durability and noise. Im not confident enough to run this tire past 40k. Definitely not going to buy again.
