Drift Tires: Built for Heat, Speed, and Control
Drifting competitions judge drivers’ precision handling and skill when sliding through turns. As a result, drivers require high-performance tires that can break traction and withstand intense lateral forces while delivering consistent, predictable performance. These tires typically feature reinforced sidewalls and specialized rubber compounds that promote durability and heat resistance.
However, it should be noted that “drift tires” are not an official tire category. Rather, it’s more accurate to consider drift tires as tires that can be used for drifting. While treadwear grades can be used as a reference point, these ratings are highly subjective. Even within the UTQG standardized testing framework, tire manufacturers may interpret early treadwear results differently and use their own extrapolation methods to project and assign final tire grades. Combined with factors such as individual drivers’ skill levels, specific vehicles, and track conditions to consider, it’s difficult to directly compare drift tire performance between brands.
