Bridgestone Potenza RE-71RS

The Potenza RE-71RS is Bridgestone's Extreme Performance Summer tire developed for sports cars, performance sedans and enthusiast drivers who participate in high-performance driving events, track days and endurance-style competition. The Potenza RE-71RS is designed to deliver massive levels of grip and precise handling on the street and maintain that performance at race-pace on the track. Like all Extreme Performance Summer tires, the Potenza RE-71RS is not intended to be serviced, stored or driven in near-and-below-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.

The highly asymmetric pattern is molded from a tread compound that utilizes race-developed, high-grip polymers engineered to maximize dry grip. An optimized footprint helps manage contact pressure under heavy cornering loads for more uniform distribution. This optimization allows the tire to exploit every bit of surface contact available while helping prevent areas of acute heat generation, encouraging even wear in competition environments. The solid circumferential ribs are designed to help ensure quick and precise steering response at the limit in dynamic cornering events. The expansive outboard tread element features low-angle grooves for enhanced lateral stiffness, promoting consistent and predictable cornering traction. Strategically placed, circumferential grooves are beveled to help further support the inboard ribs under intense cornering while allowing sufficient area for hydroplaning resistance.

The internal construction of the Potenza RE71-RS consists of a robust, two-ply polyester casing tuned to increase feedback and steering response. Twin steel belts provide a lightweight and durable base for the tread, and a nylon reinforcement ply is added for high-speed capability.

Note: Potenza RE-71RS tires exposed to temperatures of 20 degrees F (-7 degrees C) or lower must be permitted to gradually return to temperatures of at least 40 degrees F (5 degrees C) for at least 24 hours before they are flexed in any manner, such as by adjusting inflation pressures, mounting them on wheels, or using them to support, roll or drive a vehicle.

...They handle the road very well and even when driving in rain, on wet roads, it feels no different than when on dry roads!...

What an excellent tire! Had these for a year now and have put just alittle over 8,000 miles on them! They handle the road very well and even when driving in rain, on wet roads, it feels no different than when on dry roads! They also do a great job in the snow and ice, very confidence inspiring! They also look amazing on my vehicle giving it a more rugged, sporty, and appropriate look given the fact it’s an SUV! They definitely have more traction and grip than the stock, factory, all season tires did! So far, I would definitely purchase this tire again, and for now on I am only going with all terrain tires for my SUV over regular all seasons!

Not a hint of waggle on ice or snow, excellent tires all around.

On my stock height Mini they rub a little on the rear under acceleration and some bumps but very minor and well worth the performance of the tires.

Make my front wheel drive Mini handle like it's all wheel drive.

The tires ride smooth and hardly any road noise. I’ve whipped it around curves to test them out and they hold good. Also living on a hill, they go up dirt, gravel, and rock really well without spinning out. Would buy again!

...Does well on the open road, tracks straight, good turn in for the class, somewhat loud over most road surfaces, road imperfections are mid range loud for class, but remains planted without bounce.

The tire is perfect for a light duty SUV that is expected to have some off road capability, say up to class 3 trails. In the world of on/off road compatible SUVS, the comparatively fragile Bronco Sport is probably the true limiting factor here, not the tire. Does well on the open road, tracks straight, good turn in for the class, somewhat loud over most road surfaces, road imperfections are mid range loud for class, but remains planted without bounce. I have driven this tire in light snow and it was somewhat tolerable , but do not consider any un-studded snow/ice tire as a family safe, and my ratings reflect this. Tread wear is even, and appears to be a 25,000 mile tire, given it is driven hard thru twisty mountain turns, outstanding in wet as well. Handles very well for class.

These tires rock. I went from a 255 4020 to a 255 5019 and the difference is phenomenal. These falcons take up potholes and cracks and bumps on the highway without me worrying about hitting my rims. Driving on gravel fire roads it was amazing. Tires are quiet. I would highly recommend these falcon wild peak ATT tracks for Tesla model Y owners that like to go to the snow or have to go on trails.

The nuances here are many as increased traction and performance in one of these arenas can mean a tradeoff elsewhere. This two-part test lays it all bare and reveals just how close, but different, this category can be!
