The Firehawk GT w/UNI-T is Firestone's High Performance All-Season tire developed for sporty performance sedans and coupes. The Firehawk GT is designed to allow drivers to feel the freedom of the road by blending long treadwear and responsive handling with dependable traction on dry and wet roads, as well as in light snow.

Firestone's UNI-T Technology focuses on three primary tire components, the beads, casing and tread, which influence overall performance by enhancing comfort, handling and traction. On the outside, the Firehawk GT molds a long wearing, high-silica tread compound into an asymmetric tread design that features large outside shoulder blocks to enhance steering response and cornering stability. Inside shoulder blocks feature more lateral grooves and sipes to provide the additional biting edges that aid traction in foul weather. The Firehawk GT radial's continuous center ribs enhance responsiveness, as well as wet and dry traction when accelerating or braking. The entire tread design features Firestone's Veri-pitch sequencing of block shapes and sizes to help reduce tread pattern noise. The Firehawk GT's structure includes twin, steel belts reinforced by spirally wrapped nylon to enhance driving control and provide long, even treadwear while minimizing weight and enhancing ride quality. A polyester cord body and hard rubber sidewall reinforcements enhance steering response and cornering stability.

2006 BMW E90 325i Sedan

Refreshed to address the year-round driving needs of today’s performance enthusiasts who may encounter intermittent light snow, the new Firehawk GT w/UNI-T High Performance All-Season tire line reestablishes the Firehawk GT name in Firestone’s family of performance tires. Designed to allow drivers to feel the freedom of the road, the new Firehawk GT blends long treadwear and responsive handling with traction on dry and wet roads, as well as in light snow.

In order to confirm how the new Firehawk GT tires measure up to some of today’s other High Performance All-Season tires, we compared the V-speed rated Firestone Firehawk GT to the V-speed rated BFGoodrich Traction T/A, Dunlop SP Sport Signature and Yokohama AVID V4s tires.

Our evaluation used 2006 BMW 325i E90 sedans, with new, full tread depth 205/55R16-sized tires mounted on 16x7.5" wheels.

What We Learned on the Road

Our 5.6-mile loop of expressway, state highway and county roads provides a great variety of road conditions that include city and highway speeds, smooth and coarse concrete, as well as new and patched asphalt. This route allows our team to experience noise comfort, ride quality and everyday handling, just as you would during your drive to school or work.

All four tires in our test delivered on their promise of responsive handling with comfortable road manners. As in previous tests, the Yokohama AVID V4s received praise for its comfortable ride and relatively low noise level, especially along the rough expressway section. Dunlop’s Signature Sport was not far behind, also delivering a smooth ride and scoring well with our team. The BFGoodrich Traction T/A and Firestone Firehawk GT both displayed acceptable ride comfort, while generating minimal but noticeable tread and impact noise over the course sections of our test drive.

At normal road speeds, the handling scores for the Traction T/A and Firehawk GT were a virtual tie, feeling crisp and delivering quick response to the driver’s input. The Signature Sport also handled well, with slightly slower initial response to steering inputs than the BFGoodrich or Firestone tires. The AVID V4s counter-balanced its advantage in ride comfort with a small reduction in responsiveness versus the other tires.

What We Learned on the Test Track

Our 1/3-mile per lap test track course includes 90-degree street corners, lane changes and simulated expressway ramps. Run in both dry and wet conditions, the test track allows our team to experience the traction, responsiveness, handling and drivability normally only encountered during abrupt emergency avoidance maneuvers or competition events.

In dry conditions, the Dunlop Signature Sport felt very responsive and nimble, slicing its way through the lane change/slalom and around the tight corners. Subjectively the overall grip level didn’t feel as though it equaled the tire’s responsiveness, but this didn’t hold back our team as this tire drove its way to the quickest overall lap time of this test. Very close behind was the Firestone Firehawk GT, which delivered stable cornering and balanced handling. The BFGoodrich Traction T/A was also easy to control at the limit, but lacked the ultimate grip needed to post the quickest lap time. Just like on the road, the trade-off in handling for ride comfort impacted the Yokohama AVID V4s’ handling. Overall grip felt quite good, while steering response and cornering lacked some of the precision and stability of the Dunlop and Firestone tires.

In the wet we usually see larger differences between tires. In this case, however, the differences were not as big as often seen in past tests. Only 4/10th second separated the fastest to slowest tire, showing how close all four tires are to each other. In the wet, the BFGoodrich tire lead the way with the quickest overall lap time, fastest time through the slalom transition and highest steady-state cornering (average g-forces). The Yokohama lapped our course only 2/10ths behind, where its somewhat slower responsiveness and soft handling in the dry proved to aid feel and driver confidence in the wet by providing plenty of feedback and controllability at the limit. The responsive steering of the Dunlop resulted in a somewhat edgy feel in the wet. In close fourth place overall was the Firestone Firehawk GT, which didn’t quite have the wet grip displayed by the other tires.

Firestone Firehawk GT Reviews

Rating patterns indicate the Firestone Firehawk GT delivers excellent dry traction, with many ratings in the 8-10 range, aligning well with its high-performance all-season design. Wet traction shows strong grip (7-10 scores), though some note variability in hydroplaning resistance during heavy rain. Comfort receives mixed feedback, with lower scores (4-7 range) highlighting concerns about road noise and ride harshness. Treadwear scores are inconsistent, with several reports of rapid wear (0-5 ratings) despite the tire's all-season focus. While dry and wet performance stand out, comfort and durability may fall short for drivers prioritizing long-term refinement and tread life.

Tyre come stock and have performed brilliantly, driving both city and highway. I push them very hard but don't do anything off tap. They have performed equally well in the dry and wet conditions and love cornering. I would more than likely get another 2k-3k miles out of them if we were not heading into winter

These tires came stock on my 2015 Challenger. They handle the rain fairly well, but at red lights during a storm (or even small puddles of water on a sunny day after a big storm) you can have a couple seconds delay in taking off, and I'm sure the cars behind me really appreciate that. It handled snow and ice relatively well this past winter, but we don't get much here in Oklahoma, so don't hold me to that. Today I went in for a tire rotation and was shown in person that I'm already at the legal limit on all but one tire (which is getting close too), and I only have 18,000 miles on this car. I've never done a burnout in this car, and I typically am driving more to conserve fuel than I am to make myself look like a jerk swerving in and out of traffic, so I was ticked to hear that I shredded these in about half the time other tires go out. Based off of reviews from people in my car club/online, I ordered a staggered set of Firehawk Indy 500's as they're rated much better on life expectency and performance.

...Traction, no problem in all driving conditions.

OEM tires normally do not last long, but these gave me almost 54,000 miles. Not sure why all the negative reviews as these tires performed very well. This I a daily driver with lots of miles. We rotate the tires every oil change. They wore down normally and the only issues was a nail in the sidewall and we had to replace that tire. I just put another set of these tires on my 300 and look forward to another 50,000 miles. Traction, no problem in all driving conditions.

Winter traction ratings are concerning, with many scores between 0-5. Customers report slippery in snow, lack of ice grip, and sketchy handling. Some note getting stuck or sliding despite the "All-Season" label. While a few gave 7-8s, most feedback highlights unacceptable winter performance, making these risky for serious cold-weather use.

...In snowfall, whether it is an inch or 6 inches, these tires are the worst I have EVER driven!! They constantly slide, every takeoff from a stop is a struggle to get started again, and braking is downright scary!!...

I have a 2018 Chevy Impala LT V6 with about 55,000 miles on it. These tires (235-55HR-18) display acceptable traction, cornering, and stability in the dry and wet. I have had no major problems with them in those conditions. They are just that, acceptable. They are neither great or exceptional at anything. When I first takeoff in the morning, I drive for about a mile on country roads and then I drive for about 5 miles on the interstate to travel to work. First thing in the morning, while on my way to work, the Firehawk GTs would thump and bump for about the first 2-3 miles of interstate travel. They acted like sitting in the driveway overnight caused minor flatspots in the tires that would take that first 2-3 miles to work out. After that first 2-3 miles every day, I did not experience any flatspot feelings. I live in Syracuse, NY which experiences significant snowfall every winter. In these conditions, the Firehawks GTs really disappoint!! In snowfall, whether it is an inch or 6 inches, these tires are the worst I have EVER driven!! They constantly slide, every takeoff from a stop is a struggle to get started again, and braking is downright scary!! I consider myself a very competent driver (I average over 30,000 miles per year) and these tires are constantly testing my driving ability in the winter (I find myself often shifting into manumatic mode to use the engine to help stop the big Impala on snow and ice). If my car had these tires, I would very strongly consider purchasing snow tires for the winter, they are that horrible. If you have to drive on ice, these tires are even worse than driving in snow. I hate to trash a product, but these tires have a split personality. In the dry and wet, they are acceptable (though not great) but snow and ice driving is downright scary! I bet Firestone made the tread compound harder to increase the treadlife! I wonder how Firestone executives could sleep at night with the mud and snow rating on the sidewall of these tires!

...Tires are loud and for sure are bumpy to a fault, was starting to think something was wrong with my car (thud, thud, thud 4 sure!!!)...

23,000 miles in on new '17 300S and already need to replace rear tires, fronts are like 60%. I don't drive them hard enough to be needing to be replaced after really what is not a lot of miles. The tires started out good and over the miles, I've noticed all the same as other reviews have listed. Tires are loud and for sure are bumpy to a fault, was starting to think something was wrong with my car (thud, thud, thud 4 sure!!!). Noticed tonight driving home in the rain as well that the resistance to hydroplaning on these tires is downright abysmal enough that I will have to replace these tires outright and I assure you I won't be replacing them with this junk. Is a shame they seemed alright for the first 10-15k, however as others have noted they wear fast and when they wear a bit they don't perform.

...Tread wear is abysmal. After only 25k miles the tires need to be replaced not only because of the terrible tread wear but all the tires are cracking...

The Firestone tires I am reviewing are the tires that came with the car. For a "high performance all season tire" dry and wet performance are average at best while snow performance is well below average. Tread wear is abysmal. After only 25k miles the tires need to be replaced not only because of the terrible tread wear but all the tires are cracking. I would expect better performance and much better tread wear for a $200+ tire that is supposed to last 40k miles and is considered high performance all season.

These tires came stock on my 2018 Dodge Challenger. I'm an adult. I don't peel out. I don't drag race. I rotate them regularly every 6,000 miles.

I'm replacing these tires after 26,000 miles because they're down to the warnings already. Treadlife warranty here says 50k miles. Unfortunately, when you purchase a new car the tires included on the new car have no warranty for treadwear whatsoever.

For $200 apiece, i expected far more. Never again. These are unbelievably terrible tires given their cost.
